FRA Flags Up ‘Future Climate’ Tree Species Trials

An interesting research project is taking place in the UK, which could lead to some exciting plantation investment opportunities in the future, according to FRA.

Seattle, United States, March 30, 2012 — An interesting research project is taking place in the UK, which could lead to some exciting plantation investment opportunities in the future, according to Forestry Research Associates (FRA).

The Forestry Commission’s Forest Research division is carrying out a series of tests to try to establish species of trees that could survive and flourish in a ‘future climate’. Project REINFFORCE, as it is being known, is being funded by the European Union, explained FRA, which supports renewable forestry and forestry investment projects all over the world.

The project is growing 30 different tree species in 37 West Atlantic regions, including three trial sites in Britain. Forest Research is also carrying out three trials in Swinley, Berkshire and Peebles.

FRA’s analysis partner, Peter Collins, explained that the research is intended to find species that are most likely to be resilient to the challenges that may become more common in the future. For example, they are looking for species that may withstand high temperatures, a lack of water and more pests.

FRA claims that investing in these species once they have been established as the species of the future will be a good move for those looking to invest in an asset class that will see prices rise. Mr Collins explained: Sustainable forestry is undeniably an attractive investment opportunity these days, particularly in light of the volatility of the stock markets.”

FRA claims that people want to put their cash somewhere ethical and that investing in forestry research such as this project will help the human race to adapt to the changing climate. In addition, planting more trees is never a bad thing for the fight against climate change as trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere making forestry one of the most cost-effective ways to limit carbon emissions.

FRA supports a range of forestry investment schemes, including the plantation schemes run by Greenwood Management in Brazil.

FPL Helps Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami Build Homes, Strengthen Communities

“By building alongside our partner families, FPL once again demonstrates its commitment to corporate responsibility. The company’s financial generosity is only exceeded by its enthusiasm to help others,” said Mario Artecona, chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami.

Juno Beach, FL (March 30, 2012) — As part of their annual “Power to Care” week, more than 70 FPL employees rolled up their sleeves to help Habitat for Humanity build new, affordable homes and revitalize a distressed community in the Liberty City neighborhood of Miami.

Habitat’s Greater Miami Chapter is building 114 homes in this community and rehabilitating more than 40 others. The two-year initiative called “Liberty City Shine” is one of the most aggressive building schedules the chapter has ever attempted, said Mario Artecona, chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami.

FPL‘s volunteer support arrived just in time to help drive the project forward.

“By building alongside our partner families, FPL once again demonstrates its commitment to corporate responsibility. The company’s financial generosity is only exceeded by its enthusiasm to help others,” said Habitat’s Artecona. “We are forever grateful for the support. FPL is a great partner to Habitat and continues to set the standard for corporate community engagement.”

FPL volunteers joined in to help with framing and insulation, installing of windows and doors, painting, tiling, landscaping, and other construction-related tasks – all with the ultimate goal of building quality homes for low-income families in need of a decent, affordable place to live.

One of the volunteers, Patricia Beliard, works in FPL’s Community Service department and she was actually pulling double-duty today: she was able to work alongside her fellow employees and apply her volunteer hours toward the Habitat requirement of 250 hours to qualify for her own home. “I am so grateful to be out here today with my coworkers. They are helping me achieve my dream of owning my own home for the first time in my life. I am blessed and grateful.”

This event is just one of 22 volunteer projects taking place during FPL’s Power to Care Week. Throughout the week, a volunteer group of more than 900, consisting of employees and their families, spread out across the state to help clean beaches and restore dunes, landscape nonprofit facilities, spruce up parks, beautify gardens, and more.

“Habitat is doing some terrific work here in Liberty City and FPL is so glad to be a part of it,” said Meredith Rollo, FPL Community Relations specialist. “We’re delighted to help make dreams come true for families in this community.”

FRA Welcomes New of Timber Future Price Hike

FRA has welcomed news that lumber prices in the US are rising off the back of a lack of credit in the lumber distribution industry.

Seattle, United States, March 29, 2012 — Forestry Research Associates (FRA) has welcomed news that lumber prices in the US are rising off the back of a lack of credit in the lumber distribution industry.

The research and analysis consultancy said that prices have risen 30 per cent in the past five months and that this was being prompted by distributors increasingly buying futures as a hedge in light of a lack of credit. They are finding it difficult to obtain the credit they need to buy lumber with cash, so they are resorting to futures.

Leonard Commodities analyst, Brian Leonard, told Reuters, “Distributors are having trouble buying lumber in the tight stocks environment and also they can’t get capital from banks so they’re buying futures.”

“This is great news for timber investors,” claimed FRA’s analysis partner, Peter Collins, who added, “more and more people are looking to the timber industry as a possible asset class, due to its flexible nature and the fact is does not correlate closely with equities.”

Recent figures show interest in lumber futures is up 18 per cent since January, while spot lumber prices have also risen by 12 per cent so far this year.

Leonard explained the attraction of buying up futures: “One contract of lumber is now worth about $28,000 and you can own a futures contract for $2,100. They’re buying on margin, which is what the futures market is for.”

“I have customers who have a good 50 to 80 percent more volume in futures than they used to own,” he added.

FRA is a keen promoter of forestry investment and supports projects such as those run by firms like Greenwood Management, which runs plantations of non-native, fast-growing tress species and offer investors the chance to buy up section of plantation land. Greenwood runs its projects in Brazil and Canada and investors can start with as little as $10,000.

Speed Dancing: America’s Newest Dating Craze

Single adults of all ages are invited to meet numerous new friends on the dance floor, April 27, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel San Francisco Airport.

San Rafael, CA, March 29, 2012 — Contact: Tom Andrews, 415/507-9962

Move over, Speed Dating. Hello, Speed Dancing, where singles can meet many more partners in an evening, and have much more fun! America’s first-ever Speed Dancing Party takes place on Friday, April 27, 2012, 8pm-Midnight, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 1333 Bayshore Hwy, Burlingame CA 94010.

“The most popular format for meeting singles meeting face-to-face at an event has always been the Dance Party,” says Rich Gosse, Chairman of The Society of Single Professionals, who has produced over 1,000 singles dances throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand over the past 33 years. “Often we get hundreds to attend a dance, giving singles so many choices. The problem is shyness. You have to put your ego on the line and ask someone else to dance, risking a bruising rejection. So except for the very self-confident, most people meet very few new friends at a singles dance. The solution is Speed Dancing, where everyone meets everyone on the dance floor, three minutes at a time.”

Rich Gosse is America’s foremost authority on finding a romantic partner. He is the author of eight books on this subject, including You CAN Hurry Love, Singles Guide to America, and A Good Man Is EASY to Find (“This is a great book!” Oprah Winfrey). His expert advice has been featured by ABC, CBS, CNBC, CNN, Fox, Oprah, Cosmopolitan, Newsweek, Playboy, Playgirl, The Wall Street Journal, The London Times, The Australian, The New Zealand Herald, etc. Rich Gosse is available to the news media for interviews by calling 415-479-3800. His personal website is http://www.richgosse.com.

Statistics Confirm Increased Demand for Botox Correlates to Increase in Botox Training

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 28, 2012) — The IAPAM has identified a correlation between the 2012 increase in attendees at its hands-on Symposium with Botox ® Training, and the growth in 2011 in botox ® injections, dermal filler procedures and other non-surgical treatments. Physicians looking to combat declining insurance reimbursements are looking to add aesthetic medicine procedures like botox ®, dermal fillers, laser hair removal, microdermabrasion and chemical peels to their practices.

Through discussion with its members, and by analyzing recent aesthetic medicine statistics, like the ASPS 2011 Plastic Surgery Procedural Statistics and the ASAPS’s Cosmetic Surgery National Data Bank Statistics 2011, the IAPAM (http://www.iapam.com) has identified that in 2011, aesthetic medicine physicians were preforming more botox ® and other cosmetic injectables procedures, more chemical peel treatments, more laser skin rejuvenation, and more medical microdermabrasions vs. more invasive treatments.

As the ASAPS reports in March 2012, “Americans spent nearly $10 billion on cosmetic procedures in 2011. Of that total ….. $1.7 billion was spent on injectable procedures; $1.6 billion was spent on skin rejuvenation procedures; and over $360 million was spent on other nonsurgical procedures, including laser hair removal and laser treatment of leg veins.”

The ASAPS also found that from 1997 to 2011, there was a 356% increase in the total number of “minimally-invasive procedures such as injectables, skin resurfacing and laser procedures.” In support of this tremendous market growth, the IAPAM has tailored its educational programs, like its Aesthetic Medicine Symposium with Botox ® Training (http://www.aestheticmedicinesymposium.com), to ensure physicians have hands-on botox ® training (http://www.aestheticmedicinesymposium.com/botoxtraining.html), laser training (http://www.aestheticmedicinesymposium.com/laser-training) and medical microdermabrasion training (http://www.aestheticmedicinesymposium.com/microdermabrasion-training), and can start offering aesthetic medical procedures immediately after attending.

Also, for the first time, the ASAPS reported on “the total number of non-surgical procedures being performed in their practices by BOTH physicians and their physician assistants and nurse injectors.” The results of this expanded survey showed almost a doubling in the numbers of minimally invasive procedures that were actually being performed from 2010 to 2011:

1. Botulinum Toxin Type A: 4,030,318 procedures performed in 2011
2. Hyaluronic Acid: 1,662,480 procedures performed in 2011
3. Laser Hair Removal: 1,452,880 procedures performed in 2011
4. Microdermabrasion: 794,357 procedures performed in 2011
5. IPL Laser Treatment: 726,125 procedures performed in 2011

Since the key to growth in 2012 will be offering lower cost, short term procedures (i.e. botox ®, dermal fillers, chemical peels, physician-directed skin care, laser skin rejuvenation, and medical microdermabrasion) versus higher cost, long term procedures (i.e. breast augmentation and tummy tucks), physicians will seek out professional training programs, offered in medical facilities not hotel rooms, and taught by physicians and other expertly trained medical and business personnel. The IAPAM’s Aesthetic Medicine Symposiums with Botox ® Training, Aesthetic Medicine Practice Start-Up Workshops and hCG Medical Weight Management Seminars (http://www.hcgtraining.com), are all designed by physicians for physicians, to meet this essential educational need.

For more information on the IAPAM’s 2012s suite of physician training programs or to register for an upcoming Symposium, please visit http://www.iapam.com, contact the IAPAM at 1-800-219-5108 ext. 704, or email info@theiapam.com

FPL Volunteers Team Up with at-risk Youths to give Six Riviera Beach Homes a Facelift

“YouthBuild is an ideal partner organization to work with – its goal is to impact the lives of young people while improving their communities. We’re glad to have the opportunity to partner with them,” said Ethel Williams, FPL regional manager of corporate external affairs.

Juno Beach, FL (March 28, 2012) — Six homes in Riviera Beach got a makeover on March 26, 2012, thanks to over 90 volunteers from Florida Power & Light Company and the YouthBuild organization. As part of FPL‘s Power to Care Week, volunteers worked under the direction of the young women and men of YouthBuild to repaint homes and landscape gardens.

The team – armed with paint, brushes, flowering plants, and gardening tools – revitalized the homes to bring the benefit of improved housing to the entire neighborhood, cultivating pride in the community.

This event is just one of 22 volunteer projects taking place during FPL’s Power to Care Week. Throughout the week, more than 900 volunteers, made up of employees and their families, across the state roll up their sleeves to help clean beaches and restore dunes, landscape nonprofit facilities, spruce up parks, beautify gardens, and more.

“YouthBuild is an ideal partner organization to work with – its goal is to impact the lives of young people while improving their communities. We’re glad to have the opportunity to partner with them,” said Ethel Williams, FPL regional manager of corporate external affairs. “Working hand-in-hand with at-risk young adults while helping homeowners improve their homes is a testament to how powerful FPL volunteerism can be in giving back in such a positive, sustainable way to the communities we serve.”

YouthBuild is a nonprofit that recruits unemployed and undereducated young people ages 18 to 24 to work toward passing the GED examination or receiving a high school diploma while learning work and social skills by building and enhancing affordable housing.

“We appreciate FPL’s hands-on partnership to help Riviera Beach YouthBuild give back and assist us in making a difference in our community,” said Miguel Rada, program director of Riviera Beach YouthBuild. “One of our program’s components is to take an active role in revitalizing your community, and it is great to have FPL share in the same value of community service. FPL is playing a key role in actively building up our Riviera Beach community.”

This is the second year FPL has partnered with YouthBuild for Power to Care Week. In 2011, approximately 70 employees volunteered to help with the house-painting blitz.
