Big Apple Academy Press Release
For the third consecutive year, Big Apple Academy has been selected for the 2010 Best of Brooklyn Award in the Junior Colleges & Technical Institutes category by the U.S. Local Business Association (USLBA).
The USLBA “Best of Local Business” Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USLBA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.
Nationwide, only 1 in 120 (less than 1%) 2010 Award recipients qualified as three-time Award Winners. Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2010 USLBA Award Program focused on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USLBA and data provided by third parties.
For reference:
The Big Apple Academy is a coeducational independent school for students enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. The school was founded in 1992, and throughout its comparatively short history has become the leading private educational institution for K-12, utilizing the latest technologies and methods for education delivery.
The Big Apple Academy strives to create an informal learning environment where students develop their character, mind and body. The greatest asset of our private school is the close-knit relationships between faculty and students. It is our firm belief that from this relationship students sharpen their most essential skill sets: thinking critically and analyzing, exploring and practicing through a broad array of human thoughts and accomplishments extending to the humanities, mathematics, the sciences, the arts and athletics.
For the purpose of catering better to the needs of students and parents in our age of technology, we’ve created an integrated online social media platform (integrated websites and integrations with social media networks), while building a cohesive community of teachers and students, exchanging content, knowledge and expertise.
The web architecture is based on WordPress platform, integrated with major social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others. A number of collaborative applications assisting teachers, students and parents share content, comments, homework assignments, exercise, and other related content.
This helped to achieve a greatly increased (close to 100%) participation by students and teachers, directly through platform, and via social networks. Increased comments on website and social networks, better conversion from information gathering to registration in school programs. Big Apple Academy is planning better engagement of students in classrooms with the use of Social Networks, such as Twitter and Facebook. From Project related tweet-ups and Facebook sections, Big Apple Academy is hoping to increase the overall awareness and branding of the schools programs.
Besides this, our students have access to the latest educational technology by having their lessons scheduled in state-of-the-art computer classes. Scientific experiments are regularly conducted through the use of microscopes and other tools geared toward scientific discovery and research. All classes are equipped with TV’s and DVD players as well as other materials produced by the school for didactic purposes.
The Academy occupies two modern facilities located in the Gravesend area of Brooklyn, NY. So, if you reside nearby or in the neighbouring boroughs of Queens and Staten Island — come visit us to get a taste of the Big Apple Academy where each child is given the inspiration to learn and succeed!
