Anglo American School of Moscow Extends Video Conferencing and Unified Communications with NextPlane’s Federation Cloud Service

Adding Cloud-based Federation Connects School’s Microsoft Lync Users to Google Talk and Other UC Platforms for Faculty Meetings, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and More.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (September 6, 2012) — NextPlane, Inc., the market leader in cloud-based federation services for unified communications (UC), today announced that the Anglo American School of Moscow (AAS) is the latest educational institution to subscribe to the NextPlane Federation Cloud service. Using NextPlane, AAS Moscow now can federate its Microsoft Lync to Google other UC platforms to facilitate faculty meetings, parent/teacher conferences, and collaborative study.

AAS Moscow has more than 2,000 students and faculty that currently are using Microsoft Lync 2010 for internal collaborative communications, with plans to upgrade the school’s network to add more bandwidth in the near future and to integrate its Lync clients with its telecom system. Even though AAS has deployed Microsoft Lync for internal school communication AAS early on recognized that in order to be truly effective in communicating with parents, colleagues, and friends around the world it had to federate its Lync platform with Google and other UC systems. That’s why AAS selected NextPlane as its Federation Cloud service provider.

AAS selected the NextPlane Federation Cloud service because it provides hi-fidelity federation between Microsoft Lync and other key UC platforms, such as Google, as well as IBM Sametime, Cisco Jabber XCP, Unified Presence Server (CUPS) and WebEx Messenger (formerly Cisco WebEx Connect), Jive OpenFire, Isode M-Link and eJabberd. When connecting via the NextPlane Federation Cloud service, Lync and Google users can see each other’s presence (including custom and activity-based presence), engage in one-to-one chat, participate in multi-user chat sessions, and make voice and video calls. In fact, the NextPlane Federation Cloud is the only service with presence-aware voice and video communications between Microsoft Lync and Google.

“With transportation in Moscow being a challenge, our current plan is to use NextPlane to support Google video conferencing for parent-teacher meetings, and enable more virtual meetings for our faculty,” said Ilya Pekshev, Head of Systems and Network Operation for AAS of Moscow. “And our faculty and students have a lot of friends overseas, so access to Google with zero cost is a real convenience for the entire school. It’s this kind of technology that keeps AAS Moscow on the leading edge.”

Pekshev also notes that his mission is to not only create a real-time collaborative system, but also to provide a safe working environment for all his users. Part of the reason for choosing NextPlane was that the Federation Cloud service offers integrated security including central federation management and provisioning, support for TLS encryption over XMPP and the ability to control communications through policies.

The NextPlane Federation Cloud service accelerates building federated collaborative communities by eliminating the need to set up and maintain separate federation to multiple parties. NextPlane Federation Cloud service subscribers enjoy unprecedented control over which types of traffic (IM, presence, voice, video, and file transfer) are allowed or denied to any of their federated connections. Finally, using NextPlane’s unique analytics and reporting tools to provide valuable insight into how collaboration is affecting network operations.

To demonstrate the value of the NextPlane Federation Cloud to build collaborative business communities, NextPlane is offering a 30-day trial to qualifying organizations. For more information, visit http://www.nextplane.net.

About NextPlane, Inc.

NextPlane offers the NextPlane Federation Could service for unified communications (UC) platforms, seamlessly federating Microsoft LCS, OCS, OCS R2 and Lync, Cisco Jabber XCP, Unified Presence Server (CUPS) and WebEx Messenger (formerly Cisco WebEx Connect), IBM Sametime, Google Apps, Jive OpenFire, Isode M-Link and eJabberd. Using the NextPlane Federation Cloud service, organizations can connect users from different companies regardless of underlying UC platforms – with shared presence, instant messaging, multi-user chat, voice and video – as if they are on the same UC platform.

NextPlane offers an ideal solution for building collaborative communities around regardless of underlying UC platforms. NextPlane supports domain sharing, allowing two or more UC platforms to share the same domain name and federate internally and externally.

Guardtime to Launch SLA-Based Disaster Recovery as a Service on Joyent’s Cloud Platform

Guardtime today unveiled its Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) solution on Joyent’s cloud platform, aimed at Infrastructure Service Providers and Telecommunication Operators targeting mobile first markets.

Palo Alto, CA (USA), September 03, 2012 — Guardtime ( http://www.guardtime.com ), today unveiled its Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) solution on Joyent’s cloud platform, aimed at Infrastructure Service Providers and Telecommunication Operators targeting mobile first markets. The solution offers seamless SLA-based business continuity, efficient capacity expansion and data integrity verification as part of the world’s first secure cloud stack.

By leveraging the cloud as a remote recovery site, enterprise is protected against disasters at its home site and can reconstruct its network to keep services running remotely for as long as it takes to rebuild a server, data center or entire facility. If a disaster strikes, a remote DRaaS team is unaffected and can manage the recovery process to enable faster recoveries.

“We will soon be in a world with over 50 billion interconnected devices and ICT operators, especially in mobile first emerging markets will be able to offer their customers a level of security and availability vastly superior to their OTT competitors,” said Mike Gault, CEO of Guardtime. “While AWS with their Glacier offering is targeting long term storage with limited guarantees, Guardtime’s DRaaS offering will allow ICT operators to provide SLAs around backup and recovery with an independently verifiable audit trail of everything that happens to customer data while it is in their infrastructure.”

Aside of the operational benefits, cloud based DRaaS is also cost effective, as enterprises can share spare capacity with other enterprises, and the capacity can fluctuate based upon the time of day, the time of year, or even season. In the long run, enterprises reduce costs even further by avoiding additional capital investments that one-to-one schemas require and by enabling usage-based billing when disaster recovery is needed.

“Disaster recovery is the number one feature requested by the enterprise customers of our cloud platform and we’re excited to answer their call by rolling-out this service together with Guardtime in the coming months,” said Jason Hoffman, CTO of Joyent. “With enabled SLA-s, near real-time restore and Guardtime’s data integrity validation features enabled by default, the solution is completely unique in the marketplace.”

The Disaster Recovery as a Service offering complements Guardtime’s existing Clean State Proof data integrity suite ( http://www.guardtime.com ), aimed at Infrastructure Service Providers and Telecommunication Operators, validating Virtual Machine images prior deployment and ensuring that the customer data or log files residing in the cloud infrastructure have not been tampered with by any party.

About Guardtime:
Guardtime was founded with the goal of solving one of the biggest problems in computing: how to be sure electronic data is authentic. Guardtime’s Keyless Signatures provide proof of origin and that not a single bit has changed since a specific point in time. The verification of the signature can be done offline without reliance on keys, secrets, or the existence of a trusted third party. Guardtime’s mission is to change the world to one in which Keyless Signatures are ubiquitous and a natural part of the everyday data lifecycle, whether on disk, in transit, or in the Cloud. Visit http://www.guardtime.com for more information about using Keyless Signatures for signing your data.

Ecotech Institute Launches Hands-on Power Utility Technician Program

Aging Power Utility Workforce Requires New, Savvy Technicians

Denver, Colorado, August 29, 2012 – Ecotech Institute, the first and only college focused entirely on preparing America’s workforce for careers in renewable energy and sustainability, is now taking applications for its new two-year Power Utility Technician degree program focused on training power utility technicians. The program, which will launch in October, will help fill a need in the power utility sector as a growing number of power utility technicians are retiring from the field and highly trained employees are in demand. Ecotech has responded to this need by creating a practical program focused on the ever-changing power utility industry.

With input from subject matter experts who have more than 55 years of combined utility experience, Ecotech designed its Power Utility Technician program to prepare graduates for careers in power generation, with specialization in power plant operations and maintenance. Students will receive immersive and hands-on training that focuses on providing a solid grounding in, and a comprehensive understanding of, electric utility distribution systems, grid and smart grid.

“We are excited about the applicability and cutting-edge nature of this program and are thankful to industry gurus Dan Sachse and Mark Fox for sharing their expertise,” says Michael Seifert, president of Ecotech Institute. “Demand is at an all-time high for people who understand the grid and the future of power utilities and we look forward to leading the way in preparing students for jobs in this area.”

Upon successful completion of the Power Utility Technician program, students will be prepared to:

* Apply the fundamentals of power generation, so they can operate and maintain power plants

* Use their knowledge of high voltage systems to maintain and operate grid infrastructure, smart grids, and distribution systems

* Use the fundamentals of electrical theory and related knowledge to design, build, repair, calibrate and modify electrical components, circuitry, controls and machinery

* Meet industry standards within the electrical engineering, power production and distribution fields

Ecotech’s comprehensive Power Utility Technician program offers a balanced education of soft skills (communication, workplace etiquette), and math and science basics and technology skills, but the educational emphasis is on hands-on, practical training in modern labs.

Ecotech Institute’s website outlines each of its programs to help answer common questions such as, “Is this program right for me?”, “What will I learn?” and “Why Ecotech?” In addition to offering curriculum information, the site explains what to expect from the program, which skill sets are most desirable for this field of study, and what careers are available in cleantech industries.

With the addition of the Power Utility Technician program, Ecotech Institute, which is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, offers six highly practical associate’s degree programs that provide graduates with skills valued by today’s alternative renewable energy employers.

Ecotech’s next round of classes begins in October and applications are always accepted.

In addition to the Power Utility program, Ecotech Institute offers the following:

* Solar Energy Technology, Associate of Applied Science

* Wind Energy Technology, Associate of Applied Science
