It is important when selecting a High School Self Defense company, that you choose the right company.

1) Does the company teach Reality Based self defense or Martial Arts? While martial arts are an excellent activity, they do not address what happens in real life with the psychology, emotions and realistic attacks in the street.

2) Does the company put some emphasis on How to Avoid Danger? Most self defense companies jump right into physical skills while ignoring the most important aspect of high school self defense which is to avoid conflict.

3) Does the company teach the students verbal skills, teaching them how to defuse an attacker? Many attackers can be talked down (defused). This is a very important skill which must be addressed.

4) Does the company brag about all their credentials rather than pointing out how they can make the students safer? While you want someone with excellent credentials, you do not want someone who is there for their own ego.

5) Does the company teach strikes that are basic, gross motor movements? In a real attack, no one can remember highly complex skills. This is another important reason why SAFE International teaches concepts rather than techniques. Do they have the students strike pads or do they have students strike in the air? It is important the students experience making contact.

6) Does the company tell you that they can teach Milwaukee High School self defense without any strikes, so that you do not need to be concerned with them becoming aggressive? While we always emphasize run when you can, you must teach students basic strikes or you are not helping them to address real self defense. The goal is to avoid but if you can’t, use verbal skills and if that fails, strike in order to be able to get away safely.

7) Does the company teach realistic holds, grabs, groundwork which is applicable to the students or are they more concerned with looking good, teaching fancy techniques?

8) Does the company offer a class with Realistic Simulated Attacks recreating the intensity and adrenaline of a real attack? Is it done in a safe format? Some companies have students break boards or punch in the air for a final test. Recreating simulated attacks is crucial in making your students safer.

9) Does the company have an excellent reputation, having taught literally thousands and thousands of students? Knowing how to deal with high school students takes a particular skill and not all self defense instructors are able to do it effectively.

We only teach gross motor strikes due to the adrenal rush one gets when they are in a highly stressful state such as an attack scenario. We teach a philosophy of “Attack the Attacker” which reverses one from being the Prey, to that of being the Predator. Another philosophy is to attack the head if all avoidance and verbal strategies have failed. This is only 30 minutes into the physical training and you can see how the self defense concepts are very effective. The self defense drills increase with intensity as the participants gain more confidence. It is important to build rapport with your students and the results will be seen as the drills progress. The Last Night of the Proms Comes to an Olympic-Slanted Close in 2012

The closing event of the world’s greatest classical musical festival will this year feature an Olympic Fanfare from American composer, conductor and pianist John Towner Williams. The Last Night of the Proms will coincide with the final weekend of the Paralympic Games and the end to this great summer of British regalia and sport.

The Last Night of the Proms, on 8 September at the Royal Albert Hall, is the most popular and widely accessible concert of the BBC Proms. It followers a lighter note, appealing to more popular tastes with British favourites such as Jerusalem and the National Anthem interspersed with classical masterpieces.

Tickets for the event are hard to come by – most are presold via ballot well in advance – but a limited number of standing tickets will be available on the night for £5 each.

The Mayor’s Thames Festival Gets an Olympic Boost This Year

Every September the Mayor’s Thames Festival celebrates the continued importance of the River Thames. This year this free event is getting an Olympic boost as it coincides with the Olympic Closing ceremony bringing an end to the Paralympic Games. SportsMark selects WinMagic Encryption technology to protect critical data at London 2012 Olympic Games

Of the many events SportsMark will be involved in this year, including Super Bowl, The Masters, and the America’s Cup World Series, the London 2012 Olympic Games will be a pinnacle event. SportsMark has been preparing for this momentous event for over four years, working side by side with its clients to create unparalleled guest experiences and optimize their brand building and sales objectives. SportsMark’s clients will host more than 45,000 guests throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games, working with a staff of over 1,000 and managing tens of thousands of Olympic event tickets on behalf of their 15 clients.

SportsMark’s information services team determined that they required a rapid OS and encryption deployment ready for a highly mobile and diverse workforce to securing log in onto any of their laptops at any of the locations.

“WinMagic SecureDoc was clearly the answer to our requirements,” said Scott Shuemake, systems engineer at SportsMark. “We needed an encryption solution that we could quickly and easily implement, manage centrally and provide all temporary staff with access to all the devices, so we had the flexibility to move staff around the hospitality venues across London, sometimes at short notice.”

SportsMark Group has contracted 1000 temporary hospitality event staff to work for the duration of Olympic and Paralympic Games in more than 15 pop-up offices around central London. These staff will be supplied with rented laptops that require the hard drive to be fully encrypted.

The technical solution consisted of 300 temporary licenses of WinMagic SecureDoc and SecureDoc Enterprise Server to install the SecureDoc packages and provide recovery. SportsMark also utilized WinMagic consultancy services to ensure the smoothest and quickest deployment in the fastest possible timeframe. At the end of the project, SportsMark will take advantage of SecureDoc’s Crypto erase feature to decommission the devices used for the event.

Toronto, ON, July 12, 2012 – (Straight Line PR) – Toronto Self Defense, SAFE International Announces Toronto Women’s university Self Defense.

SAFE International is expanding its seminar options to include women’s university self defense parties in Toronto, ON.

SAFE International quickly realized that women had completely different concerns, fears, and needs than males. Chris Roberts, CEO of SAFE International listened to their concerns and tailored something that was not only educational, but also met their personal fears. Men have no idea what women go through on an everyday basis from the stares and comments to the physical gestures and advances.

One of the reasons that SAFE International enjoys teaching self defense for women in university is how receptive women are to the skills that the SAFE International instructors provide. SAFE International teaches self defense concepts, rather than techniques. This allows women to learn in a much shorter time. SAFE International always covers Awareness and Avoidance strategies which are based on one’s daily routines.

We examine what an attacker looks for, what an attacker wants and doesn’t want in confrontation. One of the biggest topics we explore is how most people are too polite, even when their intuition is telling them the complete opposite. We cover the most common distraction techniques an attacker will use to gain an advantage. We then move on to verbal strategies in the event that avoidance is no longer possible. Rather than just teaching to yell at a potential attacker, we cover a few verbal strategies based on the aggressor and the scenario. The third step is addressing the physical aspect of Toronto women’s university self defense. We begin with the advantages of adopting a passive stance rather than an aggressive stance.  We only teach gross motor strikes due to the adrenal rush one gets when they are in a highly stressful state such as an attack scenario.  We teach a philosophy of “Attack the Attacker” which reverses one from being the Prey, to that of being the Predator.  Another philosophy is to attack the head if all avoidance and verbal strategies have failed. This is only 30 minutes into the physical training and you can see how the self defense concepts are very effective. The self defense drills increase with intensity as the participants gain more confidence. This is very important as you don’t want to terrify your clients right from the start. It is important to build rapport with your students and the results will be seen as the drills progress.
