Anecdotes And A Philosphy Of Life From A Family Of Sixteen

Is there an uneasiness that tugs at you from your interior? What is the meaning and purpose of life? Do you want to live in the world without being of the world? How can one achieve true happiness and fulfillment? These are questions addressed in BETTER BY THE DOZEN, PLUS TWO, subtitled Anecdotes and a Philosophy of Life from a Family of Sixteen, written by James and Kathleen Littleton, parents in the process of raising fourteen living children.

This unique and inspiring book unmasks many of the fundamental errors of our time, with the authors offering a concrete hierarchy of values or priorities to live by in the midst of what they describe as a seriously disordered modern dominant culture. It is designed to be an appealing and interesting read for anyone and everyone intended to move the reader to serious reflection on the state of his or her life, and to hopefully come away with some helpful resolutions of a spiritual and/or practical nature.

The Littletons offer experience and insights into subjects including faith, family, living by a hierarchy of values, marriage, motherhood, openness to life, miscarriage, formation of children, service, dealing with difficulties of life, and the importance of having a sense of humor

Praise for Better by the Dozen, Plus Two:

“Here’s a family you won’t forget. And reading about them will brighten your day and deepen your faith. I was blessed in meeting them because their three oldest girls attended or attend Ave Maria University —and we’re hoping the 11 younger siblings will follow in their footsteps! You’ll find 16 reasons for being joyfully counter-cultural.”
Fr. Joseph D. Fessio, S.J.
Editor, Ignatius Press and Theologian in Residence, Ave Maria University

“In Better by the Dozen, Plus Two James and Kathleen Littleton have written a truly profound book that may change your family forever. Through Scripture, Catechism, family anecdotes, and simple “how to” practical advice, this work will challenge and inspire all families both large and small. Throughout the book one thing is clear; the Littleton family perseveres and thrives because of God’s Sacramental Grace. Read this book and be encouraged. Read this book and be awed. Read this book and learn how you, too, can raise a family firmly rooted in Faith and Love for Christ and His Church.”

Superb! Superb! Superb! March 28, 2011I read this book at least once a year. I am now in my fourth reading since purchasing it. You will fall in love with this large, Irish Catholic family, as I have. Jim and Kathleen Littleton are devout Catholics who have not been afraid to make radical choices when it comes to living a Christ-centered life or raising a family in such a way that goes completely against the grain of the dominant culture. They have been such an inspiration to me. In fact, after my husband read this book, he decided to become a Catholic! The Littletons have 14 living children. In this book, they will share with you what they are convinced are God’s Hierarchy of Values, namely, God, Spouse, Children, Work, and then Service Work/Apostolate. They also discuss Marriage, Motherhood, Openness to Life, Formation of Children, Service, Cross-Carrying, and the necessity of possessing a sense of humor. Whenever I become discouraged as a parent, I know that it’s time to take this book off of the shelf and read it again. It is the only Catholic book on parenting and devotion that I continue to read over and over again. I eagerly await their next book, and hope that one day, there will be one. 5.0 out of 5 stars Superb! Superb! Superb! March 28, 2011 By Tara ( Alamogordo, NM)

Jim and Kathleen are a beautiful example of understanding, living, and teaching the Catholic faith. I felt like I wanted to be adopted by them! 5.0 out of 5 stars Motivating, October 12, 2007 By Suzanne Earl St. Joseph, pray for us! ( Illinois )

This book is proof that current cultural wisdom is wrong and that the Catholic teaching on openness to life is right. Who knows better, you or God? The Littletons are an excellent example of the generosity God is asking for. One important lesson pointed out by James and Kathleen Littleton is that the world looks at children as a burden which actually belittles the contribution that children bring. They are not just empty stomachs and brains demanding to be fed and sent to college. They are persons who contribute to the family from the day they are brought into it–and more and more as they mature. This book was like a pleasant stroll through a different world in which values were properly prioritized. I only wish there were more anecdotes about the children’s interaction with each other and the hostile world. I loved the one about two older kids saving 10 seats in a theater during the previews while the younger ones waited in the lobby so they didn’t have to look at all the junk in the previews. A good gift for your teenaged sons and daughters. A mandatory gift for Pre-Cana classes. Good idea for Engaged- and Marriage Encounter Weekend attendees. Five Stars Countercultural May 21, 2012 By Jeffery R. King.

Kick Racism Out Of Soccer

United, formed in 2011 following the amalgamation of Coral Springs Storm and Coral Springs Renegades, are teaming up with Kick It Out and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, south Florida’s only professional men’s soccer team, to host the inaugural One Game, One Community Trophy on June 2.

The Trophy, which will be competed for annually in a one-off game between United’s two under-14s teams, is set to take place prior to Lauderdale’s North American Soccer League fixture against the Tampa Bay Rowdies at the Lockhart Stadium.

The youngsters will be supporting Kick It Out by conducting a flag display and donningOne Game, One Community t-shirts before the match at the 18,500-seater arena – a historical venue where football legends George Best, Gerd Mueller, Gordon Banks and Teófilo Cubillas have all previously featured.

Having established the partnership between Kick It Out and United, Spencer Freedman, who acts as the under-14s assistant coach and parent liaison manager, is looking forward to the occasion. The Englishman said: “We are proud to be one of the first soccer clubs to be carrying the message in the United States.

“It is vital to educate youth players on the importance of social behaviour both on and off the field, and we’re looking to generate as much support ahead of the One Game, One Community Trophy as possible. Let’s get unity in the community, and help in educating our youth to become responsible and productive members of our society.”

Former England international Earl Barrett, one of Kick It Out’s leading ambassadors, has been impressed by the commitment shown by United to spread awareness of the campaign. He said: “Kick It Out is proud to be affiliated to Coral Springs United.

“This is one of the first youth soccer programs to promote the campaign’s message in the United States, and the club deserves praise for spreading awareness around the importance of equality and diversity. Coral’s projects are further proof that football is able to act as a key engagement tool when it comes to educating youngsters, and bringing people together from all different backgrounds.”

Maribor – Slovenia: European City of Culture 2012 Greet The Bogside Artists

Maribor, second biggest city in Slovenia and this year’s Cultural Capital is host to Derry’s acclaimed Bogside Artists.

Their mural, which will form the centrepiece of the coming cultural festival will be unveiled by His Holiness The Dalai Lama on 17th May 2012.

The artists are fresh from their recent USA trip where they were feted by the universities of Bonaventure and Boston College.

This is a rare and unique coming together of cultures of Ireland, Slovenia and Tibet, factors that the artists have incorporated into theirmural in progress. For the artists this is an incredibly significant honour and accolade. Said spokesman Tom Kelly. ” We have been fortunate throughout the years to have enjoyed recognition and respect abroad and we are indeed grateful to the city of Maribor and its organizing council for giving us a wonderful centre stage on which to share our creative journey. And that is why we have decided to make a direct visual link between the Annette McGavigan schoolgirl mural from The People’s Gallery in the Bogside, Derry, which has proved to be one of the most popular of our creations and this mural which will highlight to the best of our ability the horrendous plight of the oppressed people of Tibet. We look forward immensely to meeting with their leader the Dalai Lama whose mission of peace, mutual respect and understanding in the world which has been our own foundation and mission for so many years. We see this as also an honour for the people of Derry and especially for all those who have supported us and The People’s Gallery. Like us, they are more than familiar with the abuses of human rights.”

The Bogside Artists created all of the twelve murals of The People’s Gallery. These murals depict the key events of the troubles in N.Ireland and especially those events that impacted the people of Derry and the Bogside whose story the artists felt impelled to tell via the art of mural painting. These huge murals are visited by many thousands of people each year.

The artists began painting their mural for Maribor today 19th April. It will be unveiled by the Dalai Lama on 17th May.

For further information please contact the Art of Reconciliation website. Or visit their own website at www.bogsideartists.com.

New Review Site WasThatGood.com Delivers Independent Theatre Opinion

WasThatGood.com, a new site dedicated to bringing informed and independent theatre review and opinion to stage fans, has been launched in the UK.

The site has been introduced to address a demand for genuine, unbiased theatre reviews which are different from the now-standard sites which are full of intrusive advertising. WasThatGood.com will offer true, honest reviews of shows like Chicago and Billy Elliot from people who have actually been to see them and who are not promoting anything.

WasThatGood.com has been built by Robert Stuart, a big fan of theatre and shows, who was tired of trawling through websites which consisted of nothing but advertisements. The new site will offer impartial opinion, show times and the chance to buy London theatre tickets too.

Robert Stuart says, “There was clearly a gap in the market for a genuine, honest theatre review website – hence why I decided to introduce WasThatGood.com. There are far too many websites around which are advertising based and which actively promote shows – I wanted to have a place where all fans of theatre can share genuine reviews.”

In recent times the economic crisis has resulted in lots of people choosing not to go to see shows any longer for fear of wasting their money. WasThatGood.com intends to address this by giving people unbiased, genuine reviews via which they can make informed choices about which shows to go and see.

In addition to its review services WasThatGood.com will also host show time and date information and will let people search for the highest-rated shows by peer review. Users will also be able to buy tickets for shows all over the country through the site.

About WasThatGood.com

WasThatGood.com was born in an attempt to give the public a say in the world of theatre by offering an independent forum for them to share their opinions. The intent is to promote open discussion regarding the theatre, which could very well lead to improvement as theatres will have to face reality and will no longer be subject to only a handful of critics who have a channel to the public.

But when will I see Granny?

Imagine a situation where both parents work and care is divided between both maternal and paternal grandparents. In an ideal world this arrangement would continue after a divorce or separation, but frequently all goodwill breaks down leaving children having to cope with new arrangements and often the loss or deterioration of a relationship with one or both sets of grandparents.

I often get asked ‘but what about my rights?’ by caring grandparents who are desperate to continue a relationship with their grandchildren. The sad, depressing, answer is that grandparents have no automatic right to make an application to the Court for contact or residence, unless the children have been living with them for at least 3 years.

Grandparents have an additional hurdle, of having to first apply to Court for‘leave’ to make an application. This application is sent to both parents, who have the opportunity to oppose, or agree to leave being granted. Only if the Judge is satisfied that it is in the child’s best interest for the application to be granted will the matter move to the next stage when a Judge will consider what, if any contact, there should be between grandparent and grandchild. That contact has to be viewed in context as often the children will be spending time with the ‘other’ parent. Frequently, the Court has to juggle complex arrangements to try to accommodate all members of the family (and the child’s school or social commitments).

The Government applauds grandparents for the vital role they play in shaping a child’s future, providing unpaid childcare so parents can return to work. However, since 1989 successive governments have so far refused to amend the law to provide grandparents the automatic right to make an application to the Court to preserve their unique relationship with grandchildren. Following the Family Justice Review, there has been a recommendation that Grandparents should be included in ‘parenting agreements’ setting out the time that children of separated parents should spend not only with Mum and Dad, but Granny and Grandpa too.

Whilst the judicial system may not be quick to help grandparents, I have used other dispute resolution such as mediation, collaborative law and family conferencing to assist in breaking the deadlock between family members and re-establishing contact.

I rather be a dog

Any time soon, this young 24 yrs old Malaysian boy, convicted of drug trafficking, will be hang till death do him part by an unidentified Mr. Hangman in Changi Prison, Friday morning @ 6 am sharp.

If no one comes to his rescue soon, he’ll definitely and surely be under water very soon!

Supposing we see someone drowning like this, will we immediately dive in and rescue him from near death? Or will we ask questions first before we can help rescue him, questions like, “Who is he?”, “How come he’s in the water?”, “Did he fell into the water or was he pushed in?, “Is he rich or poor?”, “Where is he from? He looks like he’s not from this region.”, “Maybe he’s a ex-criminal wanting to commit suicide? Must have done a lot of bad thing in his life one la. That’s why this is call ‘retribution’ la. Ah… just let him drown la. He deserves it one la. Don’t care for him la. Just let him die la.”

Huh?

I don’t get it. People saved a dog but they won’t save a fellow human being from near death! Strange. So does that means that the dog’s life are more precious than human beings’ life?

If it is, than I rather be a dog then. At least I’m assured that I’ll be rescued and loved by human beings, unlike them human beings who weren’t rescue their own human beings. We dogs saves dogs you know.

Duh…

Family Law Attorneys: The Paternity Law Specialists

Family law attorneys offer legal services to individuals and their families who are dealing with legal disputes. They are able to help with issues such as separation and divorce and paternity law. These qualified lawyers have an extensive understanding of the law and can effectively resolve these issues for families.

## Advantages of going through mediation & arbitration as opposed to litigation when trying to reach a divorce resolution?

The processes of mediation & arbitration can help reach a more amicable divorce resolution compared to litigation. In mediation, the disputing parties and their attorneys use a neutral mediator to come to a mutually acceptable agreement rather than going through the courts. The arbitration process consists of using an arbitrator as opposed to a judge to resolve issues more amicably and at a lower financial cost.

## What is collaborative law?

The process of collaborative divorce, functions like arbitration & mediation in the sense that divorce issues are able to be solved without the need to go though the courts. Disputing parties together with their attorneys meet in a more personal setting to attempt to reach resolutions on issues such as child custody and property division.

## Can family law attorneys help other unrelated attorneys throughout litigation process?

Family law lawyers can assist other attorneys by co-counseling them on family law issues. It is also not uncommon for family law attorneys to serve as special witnesses throughout a trial. Furthermore, family law attorneys can even assist by offering their expert opinions regarding the enforcement of property agreements.

## Can Family law lawyers assist with multi-state litigations?

Yes. Families who move to other states will likely encounter variations in divorce procedures and paternity law in their new locations. These specialized attorneys are able to continue working with family members in other states and provide accurate information regarding family law issues in their present locations.

## Can family law attorneys also assist with adoption issues?

Yes. Many of these attorneys have previously helped with adoptions from other countries for families attempting to gain child custody of a foreign-born child. They can also help to terminate the parental rights of biological parents and place children in more functional households. These attorneys can even help stepparents who wish to legally adopt any stepchildren.
