The Ann Wilson Thing EP #2 – Focus now Available on Theannwilsonthing.com and Digital Outlets August 12 by Rounder

“The Ann Wilson Thing” September Tour Dates Announced

Los Angeles, CA, July 26, 2016 — Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Ann Wilson is set to release her second solo EP, The Ann Wilson Thing! #2 – Focus, on Rounder Records. Featured tracks on the EP include live recordings of Jimi Hendrix’ “manic depression” and Peter Gabriel’s “don’t give up”, as well as two Wilson-penned tracks, the folk-inspired “fightin fer life” and the bluesy “anguish”. Guitarist Craig Bartok co-wrote both of these original songs with Wilson.

“manic depression” sees Wilson and the group paying homage to a blues-rock legend in Hendrix while introducing Wilson’s own flair. “fightin fer life” recalls some of Heart’s more folk and acoustic inspired tunes but features the harder edge that The Ann Wilson Thing! is known for. The Ann Wilson Thing! #2 – Focus is now available physically via theannwilsonthing.com and at all digital/steaming outlets. The CD will be available at all physical retailers on August 12.

Wilson is also announcing a solo mini-tour of Florida, to take place after Heart’s Rock Hall Three For All tour (with Cheap Trick and Joan Jett) concludes in mid-September. The first show will be at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, FL on Sept. 27 and will be followed by shows at Plaza Live in Orlando, FL and the Pointe Vedra Concert Hall in Pointe Vedra, FL on Sept 27 and Sept 28, respectively.

As a songwriter and lyricist, Ann Wilson has created a truly impressive body of work (“Crazy on You,” “Barracuda,” “Magic Man,” “Dog & Butterfly,” “Straight On”, “Even it Up,” “Mistral Wind,” and many, many more). However, her greatest gift, and first “calling” is singing and with this intimate tour, she prepares to blow away her fans with up, close and personal, raw performances of blues and rock songs. The Ann Wilson Thing doesn’t replace Heart but it is a new experience for existing Heart fans, as well as for new fans who will love these songs.

The Ann Wilson Thing! Tour Dates:

9/25 – Melbourne, FL – King Center for the Performing Arts – Information
9/27 – Orlando, FL – Plaza Live – Information
9/28 – Pointe Vedra, FL – Pointe Vedra Concert Hall – Information

Jack Turner Productions To Hold Reading Of “Lube: A Modern Love Story” At San Diego’s LGBT Center

Gay-themed musical provides positive role models for young gay adults.

San Diego, CA, USA — Jack Turner, local playwright and lyricist, is holding the first public Reading of “LUBE: A MODERN LOVE STORY,” a gay-themed, Broadway-style musical, at San Diego’s LGBT Center on October 1st, 2016, 7 pm. All twenty-four of the songs written by composer Brandon Bowerman for the show will be played during the event, with many of the tunes making their world-premiere debut.

“LUBE: A MODERN LOVE STORY” is the first of a new genre of musical theater. It’s a gay-themed play, written by a gay man with music composed by a gay composer, but intended for gay and gay-supportive audiences. “LUBE” is a musical comedy that takes a serious look at growing up gay, including the decision whether to stay in or come out of the closet, bullying, prejudice, the lack of role models, religious persecution, and teenage suicide. But it also deals with friendship, changing attitudes, and acceptance – especially what can sometimes be the hardest of all: self-acceptance.

“LUBE” is one more voice in a chorus – or perhaps a cacophony – of voices trying to convey the message that “It Gets Better” to at-risk young adults. Hundreds of celebrities have joined the effort, adding their voices as well, but the statistics are shocking. According to the Trevor Project (http://www.trevorproject.org), suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people ages 10 to 24. LGB youth are four times more likely, and questioning youth are three times more likely, to attempt suicide as their straight peers. There are more teens in the US who attempt suicide each year than the total body count from the many mass shootings seen in the news by a factor of two to three. It’s a silent epidemic. To address this issue, “LUBE” attempts to provide positive role models and an uplifting message: “Just love yourself; the rest will fall in place.”

“LUBE” is not be the be-all, end-all solution to the problem, but it’s an approach that hasn’t been tried before. It treats being gay as normal and gay sex as a topic that isn’t taboo. The playwright wants to provide an experience for young gay adults that has been available to their straight counterparts for a very long time: to walk out of the theater identifying with the lead characters, saying to themselves, “I’m gay. They were gay. They found happiness and fell in love. That could happen to me.” But even more, “LUBE” attempts to send a message to every person who sees it, whether they be gay or straight, that it isn’t OK to bully or torment others who may be different, that it’s not acceptable to add to the problems of an isolated teen. This message may not make it to every bully or tormenter, but with “LUBE,” the playwright hopes to convince their peers that these kinds of acts are not acceptable. Perhaps peer pressure can achieve what a simple, direct message cannot.

Tickets for the Reading are available online at http://lubemusicalreading.eventbrite.com. Best seating is reserved for those who support the Reading through the “LUBE” Kickstarter campaign at http://tinyurl.com/zefra3s. The All Stars Project Inspires Hip-Hop Artist Lecrae

Two-Time Grammy® Winner Mentors Inner City Youth at National Non-Profit Dedicated to Transforming Lives Through the Developmental Power of Performance.

New York, NY, USA (July 14, 2015) — Grammy® Award-winning hip-hop artist Lecrae‘s visit to the 42nd Street headquarters of the All Stars Project last year – to meet and mentor the inner city young people engaged in the organization – turned into so much more than expected. The All Stars Project has released a video of Lecrae’s inspiring visit. Produced by Diane Mayer in partnership with MTV, the video can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/cG5UjPW04N4.

A privately funded national nonprofit organization founded in 1981, the All Stars Project transforms the lives of youth and poor communities using the developmental power of performance, in partnership with caring adults. The All Stars Project involves over 10,000 young people every year in its afterschool programs in six cities across the country.

In a conversation facilitated by Antoine Joyce, Senior Program Manager/Development Officer for the All Stars Project Dallas, Lecrae shared that growing up he turned to hip-hop to find purpose, but instead found a lifestyle that included gang life, drugs and alcohol. After turning his own life around, he is now known for his music and outreach to inner-city youth. Lecrae has sold over two million albums, and his latest, Anomaly, debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 200 and across several other sales charts as well.

The All Stars youth in attendance then introduced themselves to Lecrae and spoke about their personal experiences and hardships growing up. They shared how life-changing their involvement in the All Stars Project has been, and let Lecrae know that his music supported their choice to be positive and move forward.

Afterward, Lecrae said of his participation, “I was brought out to inspire, but left inspired.”

Sweet Honey in the Rock Set for Australian Concert Tour and Headlining Engagement at Festival of Voices July 8-17 2015

SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK, the Grammy-nominated a cappella ensemble who’ve built a legacy for merging an inimitable and distinct harmonic vocal blend with a veracious commitment to activism

New York, NY, July 01, 2015 – SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK, the Grammy-nominated a cappella ensemble who’ve built a legacy for merging an inimitable and distinct harmonic vocal blend with a veracious commitment to activism, social justice, equality and freedom are returning to Australia for a mini-tour July 8th – July 18th. The tour will be highlighted by their special guest appearance at the 12th Annual Festival of Voices scheduled for July 2-12 in Hobart, Tasmania. The Festival attracts thousands of singers throughout Australia who learn new repertoire and skills, work with exceptional teachers, meet fellow vocalists and choristers and perform at the host venue, the Music Recital Hall in Hobart. Sweet Honey will be hosting workshops from July 8th – 12th. They will headline their own concert at the Music Recital Hall on July 10th and deliver an abbreviated performance with some of featured choir participants as part the Festival’s finale concert on July 12th.

Sweet Honey will also perform major concerts at the Princess Theatre in Launceston, Tasmania, July 14th, City Recital Hall in Sydney, July 16th and the Melbourne Recital Hall in Melbourne, July 18th. The ensemble last toured Australia in 2013 which was highlighted by their performance at the internationally renowned Byron Bay Bluesfest.

“We’re truly honored and excited to be invited by The Festival Of Voices to share the power of our unique musical offerings and global experience,” stated Carol Maillard, one of the group’s founding members. “We’re looking forward to collaborating with all the choral ensembles in the workshops and performing concerts for our loyal Australian and Aboriginal fans in Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne and Sydney.”

Sweet Honey will be jetting to Australia fresh from the recording studio in their home base of Washington, DC. The ensemble has been putting the finishing touches on their first album comprised of primarily original songs since “Go In Grace,” (released in 2008 as the soundtrack for the Alvin Ailey Dance Company’s 50th Anniversary theatrical piece of the same title). Their new album will also feature several notable cover songs from their live show of which they are recording for the first time. The album is set for release this fall on Appleseed Recordings.

Last month the group completed their fourth international US Embassy tour this year in Swaziland. They were previously invited by the US Embassies in Ethiopia, Peru and Jamaica in February to help them honor and celebrate Black History Month.

They performed several major concerts and contributed to community programs sponsored by the Embassy in each respective country. Last year, Sweet Honey made their premiere US Embassy tour (August 27- 31) as part of the Arts Envoy program to Belize. The Arts Envoy Program is a longstanding outreach program and initiative sponsored by the US State Department.

One of the major highlights of their visit to Swaziland was their debut appearance at the MTN Bushfire Festival (May 29-31) which featured a special collaboration on two songs (one by each artist) with noted songwriter/singer Floewe (real name Fikile Dhladhla) a native of Swaziland. CNN recently noted the Festival is one of the top seven “must attend music festivals” in Africa.

SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK, which celebrated their 40th Anniversary last year is comprised of vocalist’s Louise Robinson, Carol Maillard, Nitanju Bolade Casel, Aisha Kahlil and Shirley Childress (American Sign Language Interpreter). The ensemble also features special guest bassist (acoustic upright and electric bass) Romeir Mendez.
