This new infographic, entitled “11 Interview Tips to Help You Land the Position,” gives effective job interview tips for every phase of the process from preparation to follow up. In today’s crowded job market, this infographic is a valuable resource for job seekers to help them stand out from their competition.

Here’s what job seekers can expect to learn from this infographic:

* How to properly research the company they’re interviewing with

* A list of common interview questions to expect during the interview

* How to make a good impression from appearance to punctuality

* What to do following the interview

It’s important for applicants to know that they can improve their chances of being hired even after the interview. Sending a thank-you note is a great opportunity to communicate their interest in the job, which could potentially sway the employer in their favor. In fact, according to a survey by Career Builder, 22 percent of employers say that they’d be less likely to hire someone if they didn’t send a thank-you note after the interview.

For more advice and insights, view the infographic, “11 Interview Tips to Help You Land the Position,” at www.bryantstratton.edu/InterviewTips.html.

No Love Lost Among Neighbors: McKissock Teaches Land Surveyors about Property Disputes

Highly Rated Course Helps Land Surveying Professionals Navigate Land Wars

Warren, PA, February 07, 2013 – McKissock, a leader in continuing education, knows that even around Valentine’s Day, there is no love lost between neighbors disputing land rights. In fact, territorial disputes have existed as long as humans and they can get quite ugly. To learn how to handle these disputes, McKissock offers land surveyor education opportunities, one of which is a three-hour elective course for called “Disputes Between Adjoining Landowners.”

This land surveyor education course, “Disputes Between Adjoining Landowners,” looks at the basis of claims to property and explains some of the terms that recur when people claim to use or own land. Land surveyors often find there is more than one opinion as to the location of interests and boundary lines between adjoiners. This course addresses such disagreements and some of their legally prescribed resolutions, including adverse possession, quiet title actions, estoppel, boundary line commissions and boundary line agreements.

“Land surveyors are often called upon to determine important boundaries and find themselves in the middle of unpleasant disputes,” says Annie Creek, Business Development Manager at McKissock. “However, this course contiuously receives high marks and positive feedback for preparing land surveyors as they enter into these challenging situations.”

Other top-rated courses offered by McKissock include:

* Mapping Floodplains: A Legal and Scientific Process; a course that integrates both the technical and legal aspects of mapping in order to provide an understanding for appropriate mapping and map change application approvals.

* Evidence, Exhibits and Testimony; a course that offers topical knowledge on law of evidence, civil lawsuits, trial processes and professional practice.

* Boundaries and Monuments; a course that identifies the importance of research and preparation when determining boundary locations and stresses the critical nature of protecting monuments send by all land surveyors.

* Fundamentals of Boundary Control; a course that introduces land surveying professionals to the world of property laws and boundary principles preparing them for professional licensure.

On a lighter note, do you need a better understanding of what exactly land surveyors do? McKissock recently released a meme-inspired video called, “What is a Land Surveyor?” The video takes a humorous look at what moms, clients and the world think land surveyors do versus what they actually do on a daily basis.

McKissock is a trusted resource for the most up-to-date regulation and compliance information. An approved education provider in almost every state, McKissock offers required state-specific courses that home inspection and land surveying professionals need to keep their licenses current.

The seminars are complemented by additional free resources on Veritas Prep’s website that provide helpful information on the SAT reading, writing and math sections as well as insider tips from college admissions experts.

“Scoring well on the SAT is the foundation of a strong college application because a student’s score is often even weighed more heavily than his or her GPA and good preparation is the straightest path to earning a top score. In order to do well on the SAT, a test taker has to learn to apply the knowledge they’ve learned, so test preparation has to go beyond relying on what the student knows already or can memorize in a short amount of time. The seminars and other free resources are part of our dedication to help students learn to think like the test maker and develop strategies to earn their best possible score,” said Shaan Patel, a perfect SAT score recipient and Director of SAT Programs at Veritas Prep.

The SAT 2400 seminar is a great introduction for students – and their parents – who are getting ready to take the SAT for the first time. In addition to tips on how to prepare, the seminar covers insights into the application cycle and mistakes made by students and parents in the college admission process.

On top of the strategies in the SAT 2400 seminar, students will find resources that cover all aspects of SAT prep on the Veritas Prep website. The free resources include:

* SAT practice test – Knowing what to expect on the test is important. All students who visit the Veritas Prep website can download an official College Board SAT practice test, for free.

* SAT Math resources – Tips and helpful hints will provide students with key insights to do well on the three math portions on the SAT.

* SAT Reading and Writing resources – The SAT Reading score makes up one third of test takers’ total score. These resources and practice quizzes will help test takers improve critical reading comprehension and find the key to unlocking the section.

In addition to the SAT test prep resources, Veritas Prep has also made free college application resources available. Drawing upon insider knowledge of the college application process, Veritas Prep can provide guidance for students on:

* Early decision and early action in college admissions – Students can learn about the differences between types of early college applications and how to leverage each type to their advantage

* College admissions essay writing tips – These tips and helpful hints will teach students how to write winning admissions essays.

HirePurpose Educates Employers Why Hiring Veterans Means Smart Business

On January 22nd, HirePurpose and the Wounded Warrior Project are co-hosting a special event, The Military Talent Pool: Hiring, Managing, & Retaining Another Great Generation to help local and national companies improve military hiring practices. The event will be held from 5-7pm at the New York Athletic Club on 180 Central Park South.

January 19, 2013, 5:20 am — /EPR NETWORK/ — Last year, unemployment among Iraq and Afghanistan veterans trailed the national average by almost 4 percentage points. Though many companies recognize the benefits of hiring veterans, few have the expertise and knowledge needed to attract, evaluate, and retain members of this extraordinary talent pool.

“This is a great opportunity to introduce New York City employers to a variety of methods to hiring veterans,” says Zach Iscol, Founder and CEO of HirePurpose. “Employers can learn why hiring these exceptional young men and women can be incredibly beneficial to their businesses and we are very excited to have partnered with Four Block and the Wounded Warrior Project.”

More than 80 companies, including Wal-mart, Goldman Sachs, Viacom, Delta, Etsy, Securitas, The Ladders, and others from a wide range of industries will be in attendance to learn best practices from leading experts in the veteran employment space. Employers will also hear from a group of recent military veterans and college graduates about the challenges they’ve faced and the types of industries they are interested in.

“Wounded Warriors come to the table with an extraordinary set of soft skills that employers crave,” says Lisa Stern, Economic Empowerment Executive Vice President at the Wounded Warrior Project. “Veterans are loyal, work well independently and as part of a team, are creative, and are mission-focused.”

Linda Cawley, a specialist of the Warriors to Work program for the Wounded Warrior Project, and Mike Abrams, Co-Founder of Four Block Diversity Leadership, a service that provides student veterans with professional development and connects them with internship opportunities at corporations, will lead a panel discussion titled, Hiring, Managing, and Retaining Veterans.

A second panel, Veterans Speak: Employment Challenges Facing Veterans, will be lead by Bryan Adams of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Aubrey Arcangel of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Joshua Ray of Operation Iraqi Freedom-Indonesia Tsunami Relief, and Katie Dexter of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

About HirePurpose: Built by veterans for veterans, HirePurpose has developed a state of the art online platform to match military veterans with civilian jobs. Founder and CEO Zach Iscol, a former Marine officer and Iraq veteran, built and ran the Recruiting, Screening, Assessment, and Selection Pipeline for US Marine Corps Special Operations. HirePurpose uses a similar methodology to screen, guide, and match veterans with great civilian careers online. After taking a career assessment, the platform provides veterans with automated personal career guidance and then optimizes matches between employers and job candidates.

When it comes to hiring veterans, HirePurpose believes that the resume alone is an unjust measurement of potential and capability. “Resumes are backward looking, they only illustrate a candidate’s job history, but are often shortsighted in measuring behavioral strengths and potential,” says Iscol. “The resume is not a good predictor of job performance, especially for a transitioning or entry-level workforce.”

“It is important to make clear that hiring veterans is not charity or the right thing to do,” says Iscol. “Hiring veterans is one of the smartest business decisions an employer can make. Studies have proven they work harder, make better team members and managers, have increased retention rates, and greater performance levels than civilian counterparts. “

Advantages of Hiring Veterans
– Increased retention
– Reduced employee turnover
– Reduced training costs
– Increased productivity
– Increasing company overall ROI
– Veteran employment tax breaks

Currently, there are more than 2.2 million Iraq and Afghanistan military veterans. Alarmingly, on 24 percent of today’s youth are eligible for military service. Most young Americans lack the skills, education, or physical fitness to join the military, while many others have criminal histories or a record of drug abuse. That means post 9/11 veterans represent the top quarter of America’s youth. These service members represent the best and brightest our Nation has to offer. “Couple that with tax incentives, tested work ethics, solid principles, and leadership skills, our veterans are an incredibly attractive group for any company to hire,” says Iscol.
