Stonehenge is Being Recreated In Miami Florida 45 Feet Underwater by Reefbuilders International in it’s Original Form and to Scale

Florida man made reef creator Gary Levine will recreate this ancient masterpiece 45 feet below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean in Miami Florida.

Hollywood, FL (USA), October 31, 2012 — The original Stonehenge; is a huge astronomical calculator, and it is still not fully understood how it was constructed with primitive ancient technology. The vast Sarsen Stones and solid Lentils surround the holy of holies – the Great Trilithons, the massive Neolithic focus of magical energy.

Now, Florida man made reef creator Gary Levine will recreate this ancient masterpiece 45 feet below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean in Miami Florida. Levine first created the Atlantis Reef Project back in 2007 as an underwater memorial. Levine has now obtained approval for the recreation of Stonehenge which is designed to be the largest artistically themed manmade reef ever created.

The entire project; will be constructed with all environmentally approved materials. The limestone blocks that make up the project will be worked by hand with diamond blade grinders and chainsaws stone by stone. When completed the stones will be carried by ocean going barge to the project site 45 feet underwater 3 miles offshore of Key Biscayne Florida and assembled underwater. The last project of significance was the pink wrapped islands by Christo back in 1980. Levine said underwater construction with giant limestone blocks is much more problematic. The prior experience of The Atlantis Reef Project using a foundation of 20 ton concrete slabs gave Levine the idea that he could create Stonehenge the same way.

The Sarsen Circle with forty upright columns and lentils weighing over ten tons each will be constructed with 15,549 cubic feet of Limestone weighing over 700 tons. The project will be funded with revenues from 75 naming opportunities with brass plaques on the ten ton blocks of limestone for organizations, corporations, individuals of manufactures that use or appreciate the ocean environment in business or pleasure. Plaques and press will be in place forever giving thanks to the sponsors for their contribution of making Stonehenge; a reality and can be taken by the contributor as a marketing cost.

Gary Levine first created the Atlantis Reef Project back in 2007 as an underwater memorial. Levine has now obtained approval for the recreation of Stonehenge which is designed to be the largest artistically themed manmade reef ever created.

Levine’s Atlantis Reef Project has attracted divers from all over the world and has become a true “living reef”. Stonehenge; will be set in the same area of the Key Biscayne Special Management Zone bringing more divers and tourism to the Miami area as well as making a contribution to offshore game fishing through the creation of habitat for marine life.

Santa Cruz Artist Mary Karlton Awarded First Prize in California Pomegranate Festival Art Exhibit

Santa Cruz artist, Mary Karlton, was awarded first prize for her painting entitled “How Are You M’Lord?” by the Madera County Arts Council’s Celebrate Agriculture with the Arts juried art exhibition, Pomegranate Festival category. The annual art exhibit is currently being held at the Circle Gallery in Madera.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – October 11, 2012 — Santa Cruz artist, Mary Karlton, was awarded first prize for her painting entitled “How Are You M’Lord?” by the Madera County Arts Council’s Celebrate Agriculture with the Arts juried art exhibition, Pomegranate Festival category. The annual art exhibit is currently being held at the Circle Gallery in Madera. According to 2012 exhibition judge Jerome Grimmer, renowned painter and art educator, Ms. Karlton’s painting displays “great use of the elements and principles of design” and “brings an awareness that helps us see things differently.”

On display are two of Ms. Karlton’s figurative paintings from her “Pomegranate Portrait” Series, both of which proved extremely popular on the night of the gallery’s opening reception. Ms. Karlton’s piece, “How Are You M’Lord?” was especially admired and was awarded first prize for its vibrant celebration of the pomegranate. The pomegranate not only holds special significance to the agricultural community of Madera, it has also been imbued with deep symbolic and mystical significance by cultures all over the world since ancient times. With its abundant seeds and sweet ruby red juice, this fruit symbolizes fertility, prosperity, royalty, and marriage.

Ms. Karlton’s painting is an homage to the late Frank Snell of Santa Cruz, medical professional in the US Army who served in Vietnam, educator, world traveler, and benefactor. The pomegranate held special significance to Mr. Snell as well, as he had had hoped to publish a book about his life experiences which he planned to call “The Pomegranate.” The project was cut short by his untimely death. Ms. Karlton’s portrait of Frank is the keystone piece for her ongoing “Pomegranate Portrait” series of bright and lively portraits of individuals from all walks of life and diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Also on display at the Circle Gallery is Ms. Karlton’s painting entitled Kynthia, which, in a similar style, features a sleeping young female figure that represents the Greek goddess, Artemis, or Kynthia, holding a pomegranate in her hand and dreaming of her lover, symbolized by a stag. These works as well as many others will be on display at the Circle Gallery until November 17. For more information about Celebrate Agriculture with the Arts and the Madera County Arts Council, visit http://www.maderaarts.org/?page_id=334.

About Madera County Arts Council’s Annual Celebrate Agriculture with the Arts Showing
Originally funded by a grant from the California Arts Council, Celebrate Agriculture with the Arts has been a tradition and source of local pride in Madera County for nearly 20 years. Though it has since lost its government funding, various donors and volunteers have come through to keep the event moving forward year by year. 2012 saw the introduction of a Pomegranate Festival category to honor one of the key crops in the region, as well as the first ever photography section entitled Celebrating Agriculture… the Human Factor. Despite its initial financial setbacks, more than one member of the Madera County Arts Council has voiced the opinion that 2012 is Celebrate Agriculture with the Arts’ best year yet.

The 3rd Edition of Art Bengaluru Signs Off on a High

The 3rd Edition of Art Bengaluru signed off over the weekend as a grand success, living up to its billing of being even bigger & better than its first two editions… A report!

Bangalore, India, Friday – August 31th, 2012 — South India’s only Contemporary Art Festival “Art Bengaluru 2012” drew to a close over the weekend, with a fabulous turn-out for the event finale – The International Art Auction, marking a grand success to the 3rd edition of the much talked about festival.

The Art do, took off to an amazing start with the preview event ‘By the Lombok Moonlight’ witnessing over 350 people line up at Sublime Galleria to get a sneak peek at the art inspired by jewellery exhibit. The event featured different forms of art on diverse mediums, created by Vijit Pillai.

This though, happened to only be the curtain raiser with the opening night seeing a packed house. Works of art from 17 eminent art galleries across India adorned the corridors of UB City while the piazza at India’s first luxury mall, crooned to a scintillating performance by renowned singer Tochi Raina. Over 4,000 people, who could not make it to the venue for the performance, enjoyed the live streaming of the event specially organized on Facebook.

Next, was time for the Children’s Art Competition that was organized over the weekend. Started out with the intention to imbibe the culture of art amongst kids and provide them with a platform to exhibit their talents, this year’s event saw an increased number of participants, when compared to the previous years. Like every competition, this one too saw the winners take home customized Art Bengaluru memorabilia.

The following week was interspersed with workshops & talks, all conducted by industry experts, presenting enthusiasts the opportunity to learn. Despite being scheduled during a working week, the workshops were well attended. The stand out was the talk by internationally acclaimed architect Chritopher Johnstone, who tended to several queries from eager participants. The Jewellery and Cake Art workshops left people asking for more, while the photography workshop was so packed, that it needed an additional day to accommodate the participants. The Dance Workshop too required changes from the original plan, with a shift in venue to make room for the many dancers.

What better way to end such a magna opus than with a luxury charity auction, featuring the works of legendary artists including M.F. Hussain, Jamini Roy, F.N Souza, Ganesh Pyne amongst other masters. The event saw the crème de la crème of Bangalore and several other art enthusiasts from all over the country, come in great attendance to stake their claim on these rare pieces of art that went under the hammer.

Amidst all the glitz, glamour and celebration, the organizers lived up to their word on Art Bengaluru being an event for the society, by sharing a portion of the auction proceeds with Christel House India, a non-profit organization that helps in the education and empowerment of underprivileged children.

Signing off, Uzma Irfan & Raj Bagaria, Conceptualizers, Art Bengaluru, said, “As curtains come down on Art Bengaluru 2012, it gives us immense pleasure in announcing that this year’s edition has achieved a hat-trick of sorts, going by the fabulous turn-out all the events and workshops have received. With this, we can confidently say that Art has finally arrived in Bangalore & is here to stay!”
