California Artist Mary Karlton Debuts Two New Collections at Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History

The Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History (MAH) is exhibiting the work of fine artist and Santa Cruz resident Mary Karlton at the Octagon Café.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (July 22, 2013) — The Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History (MAH) is exhibiting the work of fine artist and Santa Cruz resident Mary Karlton at the Octagon Café. Opening on July 23 and running through September 22, the show will feature two series from Ms. Karlton’s extensive body of work: the “Pomegranate Series” and the “Anduze Series,” which celebrate human diversity and individuality. The public is invited to meet the artist at the opening night event on Friday, August 2, from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Octagon Café at the MAH. This coincides with the Santa Cruz First Friday Art Walk.

The bright and vibrant Pomegranate Series portraits depict individuals from all walks of life and diverse ethnic backgrounds. The first painting in the Pomegranate Series, “How Are You, M’ Lord?” received first prize in the Madera County Arts Pomegranate Festival in 2012. This painting is an homage to the late Frank Snell of Santa Cruz, medical professional in the US Army who served in Vietnam, professor at Cabrillo College and Hartnell College, world traveler, and benefactor. The pomegranate held special significance to Mr. Snell, as he had hoped to publish a book about his life experiences which he planned to call “The Pomegranate.” The project was cut short by his untimely death.

In the Anduze Series, Ms. Karlton explores the lively and fascinating characters encountered during a recent trip to the South of France and Paris. In this collection, Ms. Karlton brings together mixed media and bold contemporary design inspired by street art and the Cubist style of Picasso to capture the rich personality of each figure.

Fine art giclée prints on canvas of all works from the two collections will be available for purchase.

About Mary Karlton
Mary Karlton studied painting and printmaking in Chicago, San Francisco, and Santa Fe. Her style is eclectic with highly textured works that combine elements of collage, photography, and abstraction. Toni Silber-Delerive is Art Gallery’s New Featured Artist

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery has announced that professional artist Toni Silber-Delerive is the gallery’s newest Featured Artist.

Jupiter, FL, USA (July 15, 2013) — Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery has announced that professional artist Toni Silber-Delerive is the gallery’s newest Featured Artist. Toni will now be featured in the Artist Showcase for the next 30 days.

Born in Philadelphia, Toni Silber-Delerive studied painting at the Philadelphia College of Art and graphic design at the School of Visual Arts. A Manhattan-based artist and graphic designer, her work is represented in private and corporate collections and has been in many exhibitions.

Toni’s aerial-view paintings represent diverse places and spaces of the contemporary landscape seen from an above ground perspective. The flattened surface planes convey the textures of abstract space enhanced by compositional aesthetics and skillful use of color. From the elevated position of high-rise buildings and helicopters, her images of cities and towns, factories and farmlands, power plants, suburban communities and highways are delivered with a distinctive angle on structures frequently taken for granted.

More than just a recording of the contemporary landscape, Toni’s paintings are her own interpretation of the essence of these scenes. They combine elements of abstraction and representation, pattern and grid, surface and illusion, as well as observation, imagination, and memory. Whether hovering high above city streets and highways, floating serenely over the countryside, or soaring above towns, harbors and monuments, they examine the relationship between man-made and natural, urban and rural, agrarian and industrial, power, labor and leisure.

Toni’s appreciation of unconventional views and eternal human habits come together in her up-close, above-view paintings of food. While the colors and shapes are traditional, the oversized proportions painted from above display the subject in a way that is both original and recognizable. Overall, Toni Silber-Delerive strives to blend a fresh perspective with a savvy demonstration of the power of color and composition. Toni’s website http://www.tonisart.com.

Legendary Spanish restaurant elBulli goes on display at London’s Somerset House

For many of us ‘elBulli: Ferran Adrià and The Art of Food’, a new exhibition opening at the Embankment Galleries of London’s Somerset House on Friday 5th July 2013, will be as close to eating at the famous Spanish restaurant, its 50-course tasting menus, and its distinctive brand of molecular gastronomy as we will get – especially since it closed its doors in 2011.

The retrospective at the Embankment Galleries, Somerset House, gives visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Adrià’s unique cuisine. Chefs who worked at the restaurant under Adrià’s leadership included Heston Blumenthal whose restaurant at London restaurant, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, at the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge ranks among the most prestigious London restaurants.

The multimedia exhibition at Somerset House offers an insight into the research behind each dish, revealed through handwritten notes and sketches. Also on display are plasticine models which were made for all the dishes – and the elBulli team invented 1,846 of them – used as a means of quality control for colour, portion size and position on the plate.

The London show is a taster of what is next for elBulli – Adrià intends to reopen in 2015 with a foundation to safeguard the legacy of the restaurant and to create Bullipedia, a central resource documenting culinary history and providing research material for chefs around the world.

In addition to the exhibition, which continues until 29th September 2013, there’s the chance to meet the man himself at ‘An Audience with Ferran Adrià’ on the opening night, Friday 5th July 2013, when he will discuss the afterlife of the restaurant, and his ongoing projects. Tickets, at £25, include a complimentary drink, and free entry to the exhibition (which has a standard entry fee of £10) until 9.30pm.

From 10th July onwards visitors can see two Embankment Galleries shows when they book a joint ticket for £12.50 (£10.50 concessions), £6.25 on Mondays (excluding Bank Holidays) which includes entry into ‘elBulli: Ferran Adrià’ and ‘The Art of Food and Miles Aldridge: I Only Want You To Love Me’, a major retrospective on the London-born photographer who has works in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Denny Reed is in Art Gallery’s Artist Showcase

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is very pleased to announce that professional artist Denny Reed is the gallery’s Featured Artist.

Jupiter, FL, USA (June 15, 2013) — Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is very pleased to announce that professional artist Denny Reed is the gallery’s Featured Artist. She will now be featured in the Artist Showcase for the next 30 days.

Denny Reed is an emerging female artist who is located both in South Florida and New York. Prior to Denny becoming an artist she had more than 25 years’ experience owning an international seminar business that taught emotional intelligence and self-development courses. From this experience she believes that she received the gift of a deep compassion for our humanness which is very evident in her works.

Denny’s focus in her art is the emotional and spiritual connection to life through the eyes of a Shaman. Denny states this about the Shaman influence in her art, “This focus touches all of my artwork as I believe the natural world helps interpret the feminine and masculine energy in a balanced way. Achieving this balance is an important key to having less stress and a better quality of life and as a seminar teacher my extensive experience showed me much evidence of this necessity with my clients as balance raises self-esteem.

As a self-taught artist she began painting to express what she was feeling. What emerged was a deeper inner truth that she was delighted to discover and with this, her life path changed direction. Collectors of her art feel the same strong resonance of the energies that she accesses and want to feel it as a daily reminder within their homes.

Denny says this about her art, “I am committed to expressing my inner world that I find in Shamanic personal development work. This emotional and spiritual journey is important to me. I feel closeness to the energies that I access. My artwork satisfies and fulfills my hunger for a deeper conscious state of being. It is raw, alive, bold, mysterious and sometimes dark. It speaks to me and it speaks for me. I hear my soul.” Denny’s website is http://www.dennyreed.com.
