The Sublime Galleria – A Plethora of Artists and Creative Ventures

India’s first Sky Gallery, Sublime Galleria is a dynamic meeting ground for upcoming artists, art connoisseurs and buyers. Founded in 2009, Sublime is a renowned platform for the promotion of diversity and innovation in art.

Bangalore, India, September 20, 2013 — The Sublime Galleria is a dynamic meeting ground for upcoming artists, art connoisseurs, and buyers. It is India’s first Sky Gallery, and was founded in 2009 by Ms. Uzma Irfan, Executive Director of Corporate Communications at the Prestige Group. Having hosted several successful exhibitions in the past, it is recognized as a launch-pad for upcoming artists who represent a cross section of styles, media, techniques and forms that define today’s artistic sensibilities. Sublime Galleria is on a mission to further the cause of the arts and also sees itself as a dynamic crucible for the next generation to develop and showcase their talent. It reaches out to upcoming artists and offers them a platform to showcase and make their body of work accessible to the art lovers of Bengaluru. Sublime also organises regular workshops for children in various creative and artistic fields like music, painting, drama, dance and more. These workshops are conducted by international experts and offer the kids an opportunity to develop their skills and augment their knowledge in their chosen area of creative expression.

One such workshop is ‘Berserk’, an art conference for children between the age of 8 and 12 years. Through a series of rigorous auditions in the chosen city schools, a set of 60 students were shortlisted to take part in the 3-day residential conclave aimed at promoting and encouraging creativity and talent. At the grassroots level, this is a 3-day residential art conference with expert mentors from Jagriti, Lourd Vijay Dance Studio, Taaqademy and 3 Peel. Selected children of different verticals received endorsements ranging from intensive training programs to working on productions under expert guidance. The endorsements are custom-designed by each of the vertical heads. The event is conceptualised to be a stepping-stone for the children to nurture and pursue their creative talent.

Another event that stood out for its generosity and spirit was Melange, a group art exhibition where over 20 established and emerging artists came together in aid of the Indian Society for Performers and Teachers of Dance (ISPTD). The Society offers underprivileged children an opportunity to train in dance, thus taking them one step further towards realising their dreams. The artists who have contributed an artwork each to this worthy cause include Bheemaraya Devikeri, Mahesh Pattar, Ruchika Motwani, Shibu Arakkal, Triveni Vinod, Konda Srinivasa Rao, Vivek Rao, Dnyati Wagh, Neena Vaishampayan, Swati Pasari, Elena-Renee Pereira, Sonu Mulchandani, Milind Nayak, Sujata Sah Sejekan, S.A.Vimalanathan, Pragya Jain and Bhavana, among others.

Sublime strives to showcase works that reflect innovation. The Exhibition ‘Genesis’ by avid filmmaker and artist Simran K.S. Lamba, revealed the conceptualisation and assimilation of a new medium – ‘Coal Tar’. Sonu Mulchandani’s ‘The Voyage’ was a rare collection of maps and memorabilia that resonates the Gallery’s commitment to promoting creativity. One of the most recently concluded exhibitions ‘The Reflective’ by Elena Pereira was a spectacular amalgamation of a multitude of materials, ranging from flowers to metal.

Art Bengaluru, has grown over the last 4 years to become one of the biggest art festivals of South India. A joint initiative by Art Chutney and Sublime Galleria, Art Bengaluru brings together art of all forms every year. This year’s event was noted for the Galleries featured, ‘Berserk’, the Luxury Art Auction, and the artsy atmosphere it set across Bengaluru.

Without the support of the art community and the diversity Bengaluru enjoys, Sublime believes its efforts to promote art would not have materialised. Sublime will continue in its endeavour and would love for all of you to support its initiatives for the fine arts.

A Wise Feline Friend Shares His Commonsense Lessons

Author says she was reminded of the specialness in each ordinary day from a stray cat that became her beloved pet.

Houston, TX (USA), September 04, 2013 — SpecialT Nine Lives-Nine Names is the true story about a cat from Frederick, Maryland. “I’m convinced that SpecialT, an older, gentle tabby cat, was destined to come into my home and my heart because some of the basic principles I had previously learned about family, friendship and God’s faithfulness needed polishing,” said author S. Jenny Boyer.

“Among other things, SpecialT prompted me not to take my own blessings for granted. His life was an inspirational story that was meant to be written and shared with others,” Boyer said. “All SpecialT needed to do to get his points across was to be himself. His story reveals how delightful life can end up being if we can find the path God wants for us, take it, persevere, and not look back.” Boyer found out years after he came to her that SpecialT had already used up several of the nine lives allotted to him, and coincidentally, or perhaps divinely, three previous owners worshiped at her church. When these facts became known to her, Boyer felt even more strongly that SpecialT’s story had to be told from the beginning. The description of SpecialT’s determination to climb out of his valley times, and onto his mountaintop will resonate with all readers, and Boyer’s written goodbye to this cat will surely pull at your heartstrings.

Published by Halo Publishing International, SpecialT Nine Lives-Nine Names is a story about unconditional love and acceptance. “I think readers will be inspired by the life lessons that author S. Jenny Boyer says she learned from her pet,” said Publisher Lisa Umina.

A native of Frederick, Maryland, Boyer had a 25-year career in nursing as an Infection Control Practitioner at Frederick Memorial Hospital where she developed hospital policies and educated the staff on infection prevention. She and her husband, Jim, have four daughters and four grandchildren. Boyer said she began writing stories about God’s creatures after she retired. “Writing about animals and the life lessons they teach us is my new passion,” she said. To reach S. Art Bengaluru ’13 Paints a Positive Picture for the City’s Appreciation of the Arts

The Contemporary Art Festival saw a record number of footfalls, extending this year’s event by two days.

Bangalore, India, August 30, 2013 — South India’s premier contemporary art festival, in its 4th edition, wowed the entire art fraternity and public at large. The seven-day event was extended past its scheduled date, to satisfy requests from art enthusiasts of the city, recording the most ever footfalls at UB City, Bangalore’s popular hub.

Taking centre stage at the Opening Ceremony was Padmashri award winner Thota Tharrani’s exclusive piece created for the event. The presiding Chief Guest, Co-Founder of Mindtree, Subroto Bagchi, along with Prestige Group CMD, Irfan Razack and Tharrani himself, unveiled the creation amidst much fanfare. Also unveiled during the night, was co-organizer Sublime Galleria’s collection ‘The Reflective’ that inspired the theme of this year’s event.

The Collection at UB City, the venue for Art Bengaluru for the past four years, greeted visitors with a novel 3D installation at the entrance – a tube of paint cascading its color down the grand central staircase. Amongst other installations visible across the Mall were artist’s props such as life-size crayons, a palette, bucket of color pencils, etc. Another attraction was the Sculpture Park set up in the amphitheatre, allowing spectators to gather around and soak in the beauty of the sculptures.

In keeping with tradition, art-houses from across the country were seen here, such as Progressive Art Gallery, Art Salon, Rangkunchala Arts, Deccan Art Gallery & Artèquest. The artworks on display were another highlight, with greats such as M.F. Husain’s work attracting more than just the art lovers of the city.

Berserk, the latest addition to Art Bengaluru is an art conference aimed at nurturing the self confidence and latent creativity of children, allowing them to express themselves without any barriers or expectations. It was created to bring about awareness and appreciation, for fine art in India, which the organizers felt was much needed. Berserk worked on developing children’s inherent interest in art, by coaching them in the basics of art, be it in theatre, dance, music or visual art itself.

The families of the participating students were invited to witness the Grand Finale on the closing night. The show opened with renowned salsa dancer Sneha Kapoor of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa fame delivering an entertaining and energetic performance. Following that was a thoroughly enjoyable performance by the pro-team of the Lourd Vijay Dance Studio (LVDS). A whimsical yet smart monologue delivered by Rebecca Spurgeon, along with a Kalari performance by Master Nikhil Varagiri, were the main attractions of the show. The audience was pleasantly greeted with a performance by Taaqademy. The performers included Varun (Lead and Rhythm Guitarist of Swaratma), Vibhas (Drummer, Eccentric Pendulum), Archana (Faculty at Taaqademy and Shankar Mahadevan Institute of Music), Pradeep (Music Graduate from Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music) and Snehal (Ex-Band Member of Galeej Gurus, ‘Parachute XVI’ and Bass Player of ‘Voodoo Gas’). The show concluded with an awe-inspiring live painting session by artist Mahesh Pattar, who painted a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi on stage in just seven minutes, to amaze and completely entertain the crowds.

Also, of noteworthy mention is the success of the Luxury Art Auction held at ITC Windsor, which over the years has grown to become one of the most-awaited art events of the country. Record sales of the artworks are testimony to the popularity of the auction. The beginning of this highly eventful evening was initiated by Ms. Uzma Irfan – Co-founder of Art Bengaluru and Ramesh and Swati Ramanathan from Janaagraha. This was followed by the auction conducted by acclaimed London-based auctioneer, Bob Hayton, who did an exceptional job, receiving joyful cheers from the audience. Among the final lots of the 135 on auction this year, was Thota Tharrani’s installation, created exclusively for this event.

Once again, Art Bengaluru has enjoyed a stunning year with record numbers by any standards, proving that it doesn’t necessarily take a connoisseur’s eye to appreciate and be moved by good art. With its success towards making art more accessible to everyone, Art Bengaluru ’14 is already a much awaited event!

Art Gallery Announces Cheryl Rau as New Featured Artist

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is very pleased to announce that fine art photographer Cheryl Rau is the gallery’s newest featured artist.

Jupiter, FL, USA (August 15, 2013) — Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is very pleased to announce that fine art photographer Cheryl Rau is the gallery’s newest featured artist. Cheryl Rau is a mid-life emerging artist who lives on the Southern Coast of Maine. Since 2010, her work as a documentary/fine art photographer has been selected for numerous regional, national, and international exhibitions. Key elements of her style are vibrant colors and movement, as much of her work explores the ideas of impermanence and transformation.

Cheryl found her passion for photography in her 40s when she purchased her first SLR camera. She explored a wide range of subjects and genres including landscapes, architecture, portraits of people with their pets, and documentary photo essays. During this developmental stage, she also began shooting a series of abstract images of reflections on water for fun, as she roamed around the working waterfront in Portland, Maine with her camera.

As a self-taught artist, she continues to create new images for the “Water Colors” series and has developed several new bodies of work during the past three years. Earlier this year while recovering from cornea transplant surgery on her right eye (the one that sees through the camera viewfinder) and unable to see well enough to shoot for several months, she began experimenting with digital collage as a way to create new art by combining multiple images shot in past years.

Cheryl has held professional positions in marketing and communications, event management, and training. She is a graduate of the photography program at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies (Portland, ME). She earned a bachelor of arts in Journalism & Communications from Point Park College (Pittsburgh, PA). Originally from Pennsylvania, Cheryl lived in the Washington, DC area for 15 years prior to relocating to the Maine coast. Cheryl’s website is http://www.cherylrauphotography.com.

Art Bengaluru – South India’s Only Art Festival Gears Up for its 4th Edition

100 International and National Artists across 17 Galleries to be part of this Season, in addition to the Luxury Art Auction and a new addition Berserk.

Bangalore, India, August 07, 2013 — Art Bengaluru needs no introduction. What was started in 2010 as an attempt to increase art awareness in the city has today grown into a much-awaited international art festival that has carved a niche for Bangalore on the global art map.

The 4th Edition of Art Bengaluru presented by The Collection, UB City in association with Sublime Galleria and Art Chutney will take place at The Collection, UB City. It promises to be a week-long extravaganza from 16 to 23 August 2013. ‘Art Bengaluru 2013’ will bring together the best art galleries from across India as well as the rest of the world. With each passing year, the event becomes bigger and better, and this year, we aim to showcase the works of over 100 international and national artists across 17 galleries on one common platform. Some of the participating galleries include Progressive Art Gallery (Delhi), Ayyah Art Gallery (Chennai), Deccan Art Gallery (Hyderabad), Delhi Salon (Delhi), and Gallery Splash (Delhi), among others.

Ms. Uzma Irfan – Co-Founder, ‘Art Bengaluru’ and Founder, Sublime Galleria said, “This year’s theme for the festival is ‘Reflections’. The idea behind this is that all forms of art is a reflection of our being and portrays our emotions, be it joy, sorrow, turmoil, anger etc. ‘Art Bengaluru 2013’ will have all the usual trademarks that have made it the landmark event it is today – a grand Opening Night, artists and art galleries across India and abroad under one roof, residential art conclaves and of course, the much-anticipated Luxury Art Auction as its culmination.”

The grand Inaugural Night will be on 16 August 2013 and showcase an art installation by celebrated artist, Thota Tharrani. Padmashri awardee, Sri Tharrani is working on this centre-piece exclusively for this event, to portray the theme of ‘Reflections’, and will be present at the Opening Night of the festival. Mr. Subroto Bagchi, who is the Chief Guest for the event, will unveil Sri Tharrani’s creation. This artwork will also be included in the Auction this year. The evening will also feature Body Art Dancers as yet another reinforcement of the theme. As in previous years, the who’s who of Bangalore will be present to show their solidarity to this function.

Highlights of the Festival:

Berserk
Another major attraction in ‘Art Bengaluru 2013’ will be the introduction of ‘Berserk’, an Art Conference to promote and encourage creative awareness among children. Sublime Galleria is organizing this event, which will shortlist 60 children from the shortlisted 15 schools in Bangalore who encourage art in its multiple forms. Berserk 2013 is a 3-day residential conference for children between the age group of 8-12 years. Categorized under the four key art verticals – Theatre, Dance, Music and Visual Art, Sublime has brought the best in the art industry to mentor and guide these children. Their expert mentors will be Jagriti for Theatre, The Lourd Vijay Dance Studio for Dance, Taaqademy for Music and 3 Peel for Visual Art. Selected children of different verticals will receive trust funds and endorsements ranging from intensive training programs to working on productions under expert guidance. The endorsements are custom-designed by each of the vertical heads.

Luxury Art Auction
Art Bengaluru always starts with a bang and ends with an even bigger one! This is because the festival always culminates with the Luxury Art Auction which has become one of the most-awaited events of the year for serious art collectors. The Art Auction will take place on 23 August 2013 at ITC Windsor. Raising the bar one notch higher and to give it a truly international feel, the auction this year will be hosted by renowned London-based auctioneer, Bob Hayton. The magnitude of the event can be gauged by the fact that there will be up to 100 lots on auction this year. Last year’s auction included the works of celebrated artists like Abanindranath Tagore, Gaganendranath Tagore, Jamini Roy, Sailoz Mookherjea, Nandalal Bose, K.H. Ara, S.K. Bakre, H.A. Gade, M.F. Husain, S.H. Raza, F.N. Souza, Krishen Khanna, Akbar Padamsee, Ram Kumar, Bombay Group – Ara, K.K. Hebbar, S.G. Vasudev, M. Senathipathi, K.V. Haridasan, Paresh Maity, Jayasri Burman, Arunanshu Chowdhury, Vasant Viraj Naik & Arunkumar H.G. and this year too will witness works of these masters and many more. Over 15 well-known art patrons from different cities across India will invite select guests and art buyers for this event.

Needless to say, this is a charity event where ten percent of the proceeds of the auction will be shared with Janaagraha. Founded in 2001 by Ramesh and Swati Ramanathan, Janaagraha, a non-profit organisation, started as a movement to enable citizen participation in public governance. It has now evolved into a robust institution for Citizenship and Democracy. It works with citizens and the government to improve the quality of life in Indian cities and towns.
