Wine Caves:
The winery at Holman Ranch, located in The Caves, is completely underground in order to take advantage of the natural cooling and humidity held below. The 3000 square foot area maintains a constant temperature of 58°F-60 °F and contains four 750 gallon tanks, four 1200 gallon tanks, and four open top tanks that can hold two tons each. One hundred (100) French oak barrels are maintained year round. Winery operations such as destemming, pressing, fermenting and aging take place within the cool environment of The Caves, while bottling is done directly outside using a mobile bottling line. During harvest, 6 to 8 tons of grapes a day are processed. This may seem low but it is due to the fact that harvesting hours are between 7am to noon on any given day. Grapes are hand picked and loaded into half ton bins, transferred to the winery by tractor and then moved by forklift to the destemmer. White wines take around three weeks to ferment at 50°F and are bottled in February, while red varietals ferment for two weeks and are bottled in early June. All skins, seeds and stems are composted and returned to the fields. Slow months for our winery are June, July and August with the busiest time being September. The winery will produce 3000-5000 cases annually.

Vineyard & Winery Background:
Located at the north eastern tip of the Carmel Valley Appellation, the family-owned Holman Ranch resides approximately 12 miles inland from the Pacific Coast. Immersed in history and romance, the ranch has not only proven to be an excellent growing location for our vineyards but also for the Tuscan varietal olive trees which have flourished under the temperate climate.

• Our estate-grown wine varietals are planted on approximately 21 acres of undulating terrain.

• The wines produced are unfined and crafted to deliver the true varietal of the grape from harvest to bottle.

• The climate and terroir of the appellation has played a critical part in the success of our wines. The warmth of our inland valley coupled with the cooling marine layer has established itself as an ideal microclimate for the production of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Our Burgundy Clones have thrived from the perfect blend of ideal climate, southern exposure and thin rocky soils.

Holman Ranch Tasting Room:
Holman Ranch’s Carmel Valley tasting room offers the perfect backdrop to swirl, sip and savor the different complexities of Holman Ranch Vineyard and Winery wines. There is something for everyone (4 varietals in fact), from the full-bodied Pinot Noirs to the light, fruity flavors of our Pinot Gris and lightly oaked Chardonnay. Holman Ranch also offers estate grown and bottled Olive Oil available for tasting and purchase at the Tasting Room.

The Tasting Room showcases the estate wines of Holman Ranch which includes our Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Rosé of Pinot Noir. Carefully hand-harvested, cold pressed and bottled, the Extra Virgin Olive Oil produced from the fruits of our Tuscan trees has a delightful spice followed by a buttery finish.

Three tasting flights of three wines each (White, Mountain and Pinot Noir) are available 7 days a week. The Tasting Room also holds a series of cooking demos called In Your Backyard. For more information, call (831) 659-2640.

Olive Grove:
Holman Ranch has its own distinctive olive grove located on a south facing hill of our vineyard. The grove is comprised of 100 trees with multiple cultivars planted. These cultivars consist of 25 Frantoio, 25 Leccino, 10 Mission, 25 Coratina, 5 Pendolino, and 10 Picholine, all of which were originally planted in 2194 in a Carmel Valley orchard then replanted at Holman Ranch in 2007. These mature olive trees allowed us to produce olive oil right away. They are planted in shale for the best production and harvesting results possible. We harvest our fruit by hand in December, which is then milled, producing a superb, high quality product. Although the Olive Grove is not certified organic, we do employ organic practices when farming our trees. Our mill, however, is certified organic. An interesting fact is that olive trees are alternate bearing, which means that one year they may produce 650, 375ml bottles worth of oil, while next year they may produce only 50, 375ml bottles.

Holman Ranch Background:

Tucked away in the rolling hills of Carmel Valley, Californian historic Holman Ranch provides a unique and memorable setting for weddings, special events, family gatherings, corporate retreats, and team-building events. With its charming gardens, stunning mountain views and serenity, this private estate affords old-world charm while providing modern day conveniences. Lily Nava is now in the Gallery’s Artist Showcase

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is extremely pleased to announce Lily Nava has been named the gallery’s latest featured artist.

Jupiter, FL, USA (December 18, 2014) — Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is extremely pleased to announce Lily Nava has been named the gallery’s latest featured artist. She will now be shown in and promoted in the gallery’s Artist Showcase.

Lily is an accomplished, self-taught, visionary artist currently residing in Southern California. Her art work is transformative and filled with the intangibles of her emotions through color, movement and luminosity. Her paintings are charged with positive energy, while expressing an overwhelming sense of tranquility. Viewers are transported to mystical, light filled, other-worldly dreamscapes, where they become the story teller, as they linger inside the images, seeking answers to their own life’s questions.

Her works are influenced by the Fusionart style of painting, which is founded in European painting technology. What is poured onto her canvas is the emotional and spiritual energy of the artist, fusing with whatever is longing to be expressed. Since 2010, Lily’s images have been juried into humanitarian artist calls such as “The Peace Project” which is curated by the Whole 9 Gallery in Los Angeles. She donates her images every year to raise funds to elevate world peace, assist humanity and build communities.

Her “earthly” art won over the juror panel at “Sustainable Silicon Valley” Art Expo”, held at NASA Research Center in Mountain View, CA, which called on artists to submit images for planetary sustainability; she has been invited back every year since 2013 to have her images included in the ongoing building of the vision for planetary solutions.

Her works have been exhibited and collected across the USA. To see more of Lily’s works, visit her website at http://www.lilynavagallery.com.

* Dynamic Geometries
A collaborative site-specific multimedia performance by reputed international dancer/choreographer, Sonia Rodriguez and respected filmmaker, Ujjwal Utkarsh, using movement, music, digital art and sound. The collaboration is with the Attakkalari Talent Academy and Srishti. The overarching theme aims to showcase how the urban environment /architecture of our cities influence our experience, evokes our memories and fuels our imagination.

* Performing Systems
Created by Sofy – media artist and educator working with video, interactivity, projections, code, paper, and salvaged material. “Performing Systems” is a live interactive performance with light and sound, using generative electronic music and art that takes an iterative form. The focus is visual composition, writing one’s own performance software and performing.

* Story of Light
This has been created by Yashas Shetty (artist and educator working between various disciplines including installation, sound, software and biotechnology) and Jatin Vidyarthi (sound artist and electronic music producer). In this exhibit, the artists along with the students have explored the nature of light as a medium and re-imagined light through installations, sound works and other experiments in the form of sonic works, kinetic sculptures, interactive installations and films, which will be showcased in ‘The Story of Light Festival’ in Goa. The year 2015 is the ‘Year of Light’ at the festival and CEMA at Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology has been invited as a content partner, and to showcase work at this reputed festival.

* Sonic Beams
Created by Professor Cathy Lane (composer, sound artist, lecturer and researcher) and Sindhu Thirumalaisamy (artist and filmmaker), “Sonic Beams” is a sonic/audio/visual installation that locates itself to the lighthouses in Fort Kochi and around Kochi. Utilizing maritime history, myths, local folklore, oral history, shipping records, architecture, data, sounds of ships, waves, etc. the project aims to create a narrative, frame an archive and provide a dynamic experience of life around the sea.

* TATE: Global Art Space
Created by Michelle Williams Gamaker, whose work deals with performances and complex renderings of reality via documentary, fiction and video installation in collaboration with artist and textile designer, Meera, “Global Art Space” is a collaborative project with TATE UK, Central St. Martins London, Kochi Muzhris Biennale and Srishti. It explores and interacts with the local environment in London and India via performance and photography with the view to show artistic interpretations to a wider (global) audience through TATE Gallery, online exhibition and the Biennale in Kochi. The participation is about reenacting, recreating, and reinterpreting the artistic ‘Generative’. A group of students in CSM, London, and Srishti School Bangalore have already created this generative in the first part of the project, led by artist Michelle Gamakar. The outcome will be a series of exhibitions in all the venues mentioned above.

About ‘The Interim’:
The Interim operates as an inter-disciplinary open-ended platform and framework for learning through engagement with various artistic and creative practices and processes.

Projects curated are socially and culturally contextualized with art and design, leading students beyond the campus and classroom into the public realm. The Interim functions as a community arts initiative to explore contemporary social-cultural and political issues. Rural migration, religious diversity, class, money, caste, loss of traditions, creeping in of new traditions, commercialization, abundance of technology and the ubiquity of information, and gender politics are some of the realities than bind and shape our interactions. These realities create conflicting values and result in contrasting economic and social development, often leading to political apathy, corruption, etc.

It is in this space that art and media can be used as interventions to initiate dialogue, provide new spaces and places of expression, document and archive loss, memory, understand how natural phenomenon (climate, sound pollution, genetic crops, etc.) interact with the social world to create sustainable frameworks for engagement and change.

The project pragmatically pushes the boundaries of experimentation with various forms of expression, participation and narration. Through a variety of lenses, paradigm, practices and materials, the students work with ideas and concepts in the field with artists and designers to explore, create, understand, represent, and construct our understanding of our social and natural realities.
