No Price on Love say Romantic Brits in DiscountVouchers.co.uk Poll

31 August 2011 – UK citizens often think of themselves as pretty romantic and the latest poll conducted by voucher code website DiscountVouchers.co.uk shows that people still won’t allow money to be a barrier to love and relationships.

Almost 40% of people polled reported that they consider there is “no price on love” when polled about their opinion on how much to pay for an engagement ring. 11% of respondents still maintain that men should pay twice their monthly wage for an engagement ring and the poll showed that a further 30% are prepared to spend up to £500 on the token of love.

When it comes to making a first impression on a potential partner, 75% are happy to go shopping for a new outfit in advance of a first date. The poll also showed that 65% are happy to split a restaurant bill in half and in a bid to appear in control of oneself, 67% would not choose the most expensive dish or item on a menu – even if it might be their favourite food.

In the early stages of a new relationship – the first three months – 57% admit to being taken out to dinner by a new partner while 46% received gifts of flowers. One quarter of people said they had been bought jewellery as a gift by new partners and 20% get spoiled with a luxury weekend away. Just 5% of respondents said that their new other half bought them some new lingerie.

Further on in relationships, the DiscountVouchers.co.uk poll revealed that almost a quarter would ditch a partner if they believed they were stingy with money. However on the flip side there were 37% who felt parsimony wasn’t a factor in their relationship – while the same amount would not break up with a partner even if they came to think that they were somewhat stingy.

The poll also showed new relationships are a pricey business, with 42% prepared to think about an overdraft to make an impression on a new partner.

When it comes to the next stage after an engagement, a huge 94% of people surveyed said that they did not believe the family of the bride need pay all the wedding bills.

Waterway Pollution Awareness Promoted on Ocean With Inflatable Floating Billboards

The California Department of Boating and Waterways is taking its messages to the water. Over Labor Day weekend, bbi Displays floating billboards will appear along various Southern California coasts and marinas promoting clean boating practices. The floating billboard boats encourage proper disposal of sewage in order to protect the waterways and the message targets recreational boaters.

The inflatable billboards measure 24′ x 14′ and will be pulled by a small vessels at 5 mph, reducing fuel consumption and ensuring prolonged exposure periods. The inflatable displays were contracted by Media Solutions of Sacramento and are operated by alternative outdoor advertising company, bbi Display Systems of Malibu. The patented amphibious inflatable billboards have been featured on land and water for various advertisers including Disney, McDonald’s, Toyota and Apple and are making the 3rd annual appearance on Southern California waterways for CA Department of Boating.

The CA Department of Boating and Waterways campaign is aimed at reducing the release of waste into local waterways. In addition to creating awareness with the floating billboards, the department is also providing boater education programs to promote public awareness about boat sewage and proper disposal.

In 1992, Congress passed the Clean Vessel Act to help reduce pollution from vessel sewage discharges into U.S. waters. According to the CA DBW website, the law states that boats with installed toilets must have an operable Coast Guard approved marine sanitation device to either hold sewage for pumpout ashore or for discharge in the ocean at least 3 miles away for the shore or to treat the sewage to Federal standards prior to discharge.

She interviewed dozens of women while putting The Working Woman’s GPS together. The book showcases a range of struggles, triumphs and evolutions by women, including Leah, a former director of communications who has decided her current profession was not meeting her needs to do something meaningful with a purpose. “At the end of the day, I want to say that I’ve done something for me. I’m contributing to this big picture idea,” said Leah.

She also interviewed Crickett, 59 yrs old, a mother of two who had held many jobs during her working career, then ended up finding fulfillment when she became an entrepreneur. The author weaves the women’s stories throughout the text, using them as examples to illustrate how the reader can rewrite their own plan to “have it ALL.”

The key points DiGeronimo wants people to take away from her book:
1) The importance of taking a personal inventory to determine what you like doing best and who and what you migrate toward;
2) How to examine what is and isn’t working in your life;
3) How to make small changes that give women the energy and confidence they need to make more effective choices once they understand the landscape.
4) How to execute a new plan that makes the most sense.

Maria, 26, a manager in supply chain management said she came to a realization after she took the inventory in the book. She discovered that her “assets, skills, and talents are not aligned” with her current job.

“It made it apparent that sometimes I grasped onto people and jobs because I was scared and often held on too long. These inventories make it so objective. It is now more visible that I need to make use of my special gifts,” she said. Maria made small changes and is now in the process of adjusting existing choices and making new ones to move her life towards one of inspiration.

Sarah, 34, has been in healthcare for the past 13 years. During her interview for the book she was asked if the “Plan to have it All” was working for her. “No,” she said. “I choose to put more of my time and energy into work, whether it be worrying about it or putting time into it. Most of my choices are between family and work and I put less time into myself. I don’t feel balanced with myself.”
