Seven time Grand Slam singles tennis champion Mats Wilander will be the featured host at the Rodney Street Tennis and Tutoring Association Benefit on May 4th in Wilmington, DE.

Wilmington, DE, March 15, 2012 – Seven time Grand Slam singles tennis champion Mats Wilander will be the featured host at this year’s Rodney Street Tennis and Tutoring Association Annual Spring Benefit. The event will be held on Friday, May 4 from 6:30pm-9:30pm at the Wilmington Country Club (4825 Kennett Pike, Wilmington, DE, 19807).

“Mats is a great inspiration to adults and young people because of his success on the court, as well as his lifelong passion for the game and his generous spirit,” says Managing Director of Rodney Street Tennis and Tutoring, Tina Tharp. “We are delighted that he will be our benefit host this year.”

Wilander is a former world #1 ranked tennis player who, in addition to winning seven Grand Slam singles championships, was a Wimbledon doubles champion with Joakim Nystrom and has a total of 33 ATP titles to his name. He was a driving force behind several of Sweden’s Davis Cup wins and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2002.

Founded in 1979, the Rodney Street Tennis & Tutoring Association (RSTTA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization operating in Wilmington and New Castle County, DE, provides services for at-risk inner-city boys and girls, providing opportunities for children in the Greater Wilmington Region to reach their full potential on and off the tennis court. The organization partners with the School District and the Department of Recreation to provide structured recreational and supplemental educational programming for boys and girls during the after-school hours when they need it the most. The lessons learned from their programs go far beyond tennis; RSTTA combines academics, athletics, nutrition, and civic responsibility to encourage the development of a child from a holistic perspective.
