Why Wearable Tech is all but Fad at Conferences in San Francisco, New York, London, Seoul and Munich

Building off of the momentum of past successful conferences, Golden Networking takes Wearable Computing Conference 2014 (www.wearable-computing-conference.com) global: New York City, San Francisco, London, Seoul and Munich, “How Wearable Technologies are Revolutionizing Mobile Wireless Internet, Healthcare and Fashion”.

New York City, NY, USA (February 16, 2014) — Is wearable technology definitely destined for the great success that its many advocates might suggest? Hundreds of developers and enthusiasts about these technologies will find out at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2014 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “How Wearable Technologies are Revolutionizing Mobile Wireless Internet, Healthcare and Fashion”, forums to be held throughout 2014 in San Francisco (http://www.wearabletechsanfrancisco.eventbrite.com), London (http://www.wearabletechlondon.eventbrite.com), New York City (http://www.wearabletechnologies.eventbrite.com), Seoul (http://www.wearabletechseoul.eventbrite.com) and Munich (http://www.wearabletechmunich.eventbrite.com).

As reported by Forbes contributor Georgiana Foster, for real success in the world of technology, entirely new products must be introduced that can create entirely new markets, thus impacting society on a much deeper level. At the moment, a lot of what she is seeing just doesn’t do all that much. And for a trend that includes the word ‘wearable’ in its product description, she claims she honestly wouldn’t be caught dead in a lot of it.

There seems to be a huge gap between what is being made and what the female consumer, in particular, would be willing to purchase, Foster continues on her argument. “Almost everything available is currently too chunky and masculine. The products seem to be aimed at men with a vague hope that (maybe) some women might like them. Let’s think about who, between men and women, is more likely to wear an accessory, or even multiple accessories at the same time to begin with. Surely the answer is transparently obvious.”

Design needs to be a much more important factor when it comes to wearable technology, in order for it to appeal to absolutely everyone, including women. Foster can’t help but wonder if it’s a case of the tech industry simply needing more female designers? But even more crucially, these products need a real use and purpose. In this new digital age, what a brand actually means is just as, if not more, important to the consumer than simply what it does. It doesn’t take a genius to predict that the brand that manages to reach equilibrium between style and substance holds the key to tech world domination, she concludes.

The future is here, with the production of a new generation of technologies such as Google Glass, Apple “iWatch” and Samsung Galaxy Gear, among others, that will allow users to interact with computing devices that are worn by the bearer under, with or on top of clothing. Aditya Bansal and Praveen Elak, Weartrons, Presenting Run-n-Read at Wearable Computing Conference NYC

Building off of the momentum of past successful conferences, Golden Networking takes Wearable Computing Conference 2014 (www.wearable-computing-conference.com) global: New York City, San Francisco, London, Seoul and Munich, “How Wearable Technologies are Revolutionizing Mobile Wireless Internet, Healthcare and Fashion”.

New York City, NY, USA (January 29, 2014) — Aditya Bansal, Technical Co-Founder, and Praveen Elak, Business Co-Founder, of Weartrons Labs, will present at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2014 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “How Wearable Technologies are Revolutionizing Mobile Wireless Internet, Healthcare and Fashion”, forums to be held throughout 2014 in New York City (January 30), San Francisco (March 18), London (May 29), Seoul (September 25) and Munich (November 20).

Started in 2013 by experienced hardware specialists and product evangelists Mr. Bansal and Mr. Elak, Weartrons imagines and creates wearable electronics products that aim to make day to day life better. Based in New York, NY, Weartrons is committed to building simple and inexpensive products that anyone can use. As a child, co-founder Mr. Bansal was a constant source of consternation for his parents due to his tendency to dismantle every electronic object in the house. Years later, aided by a PhD from Purdue, he creates wearable electronics to common problems. Not satisfied with a PhD from SUNY Buffalo, Mr. Elak did an Exec MBA from Wharton. Armed with these degrees, he has been walking the line between business and technology with a successful mobile software venture in its exit phase.

Weartrons, creator of wearable electronics products that aim to make day to day life better, launched last year a project on Dragon Innovation’s crowdfunding platform. Weartrons’ goal was to raise funds to begin production of its small device, Run-n-Read. The Run-n-Read is a device that enables people to read while working out and can be used with most cardiovascular workout machines, such as treadmills, elliptical trainers, stepmills, stairmasters and stationary bikes. It reduces the strain on eyes while reading on a train or bus.

“Run-n-Read is providing an elegant solution for a problem that many people can easily relate to and have assumed that there is no fix for it,” said Mr. Elak. “We are launching on Dragon Innovation’s platform as we believe that their deep experience and practical knowledge in volume manufacturing of electronic products will help us recognize and address – all of the second-, third-, and fourth- order problems. Those are the things you can’t learn elsewhere unless you try and fail, something we cannot afford.”

What looks like a smaller version of a zippo lighter with a clip, is actually a stabilizing device that makes it easier to read while your head and/or body is moving. Clipped to your headband or to your shirt, the Run-n-Read uses motion sensors and tiny controllers to sync your head movements with a tablet via Bluetooth. The device tracks the user’s head movements and then adjusts the text on the screen in real time so that it bounces around in time to the user’s pace. Though a person standing nearby can see the text jumping up and down, the person wearing the device would see the text as perfectly still.

Wearable Tech Trends to Watch on November 7 at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference NYC

Golden Networking brings Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City (www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, November 7.

New York City, NY, USA (October 29, 2013) — Wearable technology is all the rage, but the craze goes beyond connected eyewear such as Google Glass and smart timepieces such as Samsung Galaxy Gear and Apple’s rumored iWatch. Designers are creating apparel, accessories and fitness wear that can do everything from monitor your heart rate to charge your smartphone. These trends will be debated at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2013 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, to be held in New York City, on November 7.

CNBC reports that start-up Heapsylon has a smart sock, Sensoria, that is paired with an anklet to automatically detect the type and level of activity based on pressure signals coming from the foot of the wearer. Sensors in the sock communicate data to the anklet, which then can relay the information to the user via an app. For example, it can track a runner’s regular form and send an alert when he or she is making an injurious movement.

Berlin-based label Moon Berlin, which makes luxury clothing, focuses on using technology to enhance the look of its designs. Soft-circuit LEDs are integrated into the garments, connected to an electrical circuit attached to rubber-like materials that are integrated into fabrics.

Someday users may be able to charge their smartphone with their clothes. Flexible solar panels have inspired designers to come up with clothes and accessories that can power electronics. Start-up Wearable Solar is using the technology to make lightweight wired garments that enable the wearer to charge a smartphone up to 50 percent if worn in the sun for a full hour. Finally, New York-based Voltaic Systems makes a collection of bags that can charge a variety of devices.
