Online parcel delivery specialist Parcel2Go has applauded the drive and will to succeed of the thousands of people across the UK who decide to start their own businesses. In the face of rising unemployment across Britain and the threat of a double-dip recession, entrepreneurs of all kinds are grasping the opportunity to take control of their own future.
Figures released last month by the Office for National Statistics showed the number of people registered as self-employed in the UK increased by 101,000 during the three months to November 2011, representing a 3.5 per cent year-on-year increase.
There are now in excess of 4.12 million self-employed people in the UK – the highest number since comparable records began in 1992. Richard Mercer, marketing director at Parcel2Go, said: “The figures really speak for themselves. They reveal the true entrepreneurial spirit of people in Britain and prove that even in tough economic times, there are individuals out there that are willing to take a chance and put in the hard work, in the hope of reaping rewards in the future.
“Parcel2Go works with a large number of small businesses, including many one-man bands selling products through online retail sites such as eBay. We know how much effort it takes to create a successful business and we want to take the opportunity to applaud those people who have seized the opportunity.”
According to recent surveys, it’s certainly not just young people in Britain who are finding the ‘get up and go’ to start their own businesses. An increasing number of ‘silver entrepreneurs’ are coming to the fore – enterprising pensioners who are looking to use their skills and experience to help boost their pension funds by working as freelance consultants and setting up their own online firms.
Richard added: “We’d urge any new business owner to take a look at the domestic and international parcel delivery service options available on the Parcel2Go website, or browse the Parcel2GO.com Facebook page and discover how we can help their company to grow.”
