Wow and Flutter has earned early praise from Popdose, who called it, “One of the best albums, any genre, in the last decade.”

Critics have also previously raved about Spicer and her live performances:

“A fearless performer… in bars, at folk festivals, in house concert settings and in venues surrounded by classical musicians, Spicer has something smart to say.” San Antonio Express-News

“Intimate and Dreamy” Los Angeles Times

Wow and Flutter finds Spicer teaming up with keyboardists Rami Jaffee (Wallflowers, Foo Fighters) and Mike Finnegan (Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal), as well as Woody Guthrie disciple and singer-songwriter Jimmy LaFave. For mixing, Spicer enlisted Malcolm Burn, who was seminal to many of her favorite records with Daniel Lanois.

She was quickly on her way-—to a rare Mainstage Kerrville Folk Festival debut, three Kennedy Center performances, song placements in several high-profile TV shows (Party of Five, Dawson’s Creek), and quirky indie films. In addition to recording Wow and Flutter, Spicer has also produced tracks for other projects. These include lauded contributions to compilations tributing Neil Young (alongside Kristen Hersh, Tanya Donnelly), and Peter Case (with John Prine,,Hayes Carll). Amilia K Spicer to Release New Album Wow and Flutter April 28, 2017

Americana songstress Amilia K Spicer will release her third album, Wow and Flutter on April 28, 2017.

Los Angeles, CA, February 22, 2017 – Americana songstress Amilia K Spicer will release her third album, Wow and Flutter on April 28, 2017. Spicer also exclusively premiered the music video for “Fill Me Up” from Wow and Flutter on February 14 via TheBluegrassSituation.com, in advance of the Folk Alliance festival. The video was filmed in the very woods she explored as a child in rural Pennsylvania and features scenes of Spicer re-discovering those woods while playing the song. The video is now available via Spicer’s YouTube channel. Spicer performed songs from the new release during her Official Showcase at the prestigious Folk Alliance festival, which takes place in Kansas City, MO on February 15 -18, 2017.

Wow and Flutter is Spicer’s most compelling work to date. The songs map her musical DNA in landscapes of languid farmlands, gritty alleys and red dirt noir. Her lyrics reflect the various places she calls home; Pennsylvania where she was raised, and Los Angeles and Austin where she currently splits her time. She visits her father’s hometown of Harlan Kentucky on the track “Harlan” as well.

The album kicks off with the twang and yearning of the first track “Fill Me Up,” a plea to the universe to fulfill her broken soul. The album’s journey continues with sensual and heartfelt songs like “Harlan,” and “This Town,” which recounts a scene known to many, when one finally realizes that no matter how far you travel, you never truly leave your hometown. Spicer confesses, “I know my home is in this town, like I know just how to breathe.”

Spicer has recruited an all-star line-up for Wow and Flutter. Keyboardists Rami Jaffee (Wallflowers, Foo Fighters) and Mike Finnegan (Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal) contribute, as does Woody Guthrie disciple and singer-songwriter Jimmy LaFave, alongside bassist Daryl Johnson (Stones/Dylan). Guitarists Tony Gilkyson (X, Lone Justice) and Gurf Morlix (Lucinda Williams) appear as special guests. Spicer, previously known for her piano work, picks up a multitude of instruments on Wow and Flutter, from guitar to banjo to lap steel. She also produced the record, alongside multi-instrumentalist Steve McCormick. Malcolm Burn, whom Spicer contacted because of his work with Daniel Lanois, handled mixing.

About Amilia K Spicer:

When Spicer answered music’s call, she was first discovered at a Los Angeles club. That led to a rare main stage Kerrville Folk Festival debut, three Kennedy Center performances, song placements in several high-profile TV productions (Party of Five, Dawson’s Creek), and more. Spicer’s first two releases, Like an Engine and Seamless were released to critical acclaim, with New Texas Magazine calling Spicer “A formidable talent.” Spicer’s music has also earned comparisons to that of Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, and Lanois. During the writing process for Wow and Flutter, Spicer took time to work on several other projects. Among these, she has been lauded for her contributions to Cinnamon Girl: Women Artists Cover Neil Young and A Case for Case: A Peter Case Tribute with John Prine. She also appeared on the 2009 Safety Harbor Kids Holiday Collection, alongside Jackson Browne, Sheila E, and Paul Barrere. Spicer has enjoyed other collaborations as well, most notably appearing on albums by John Gorka and the final Rounder release from the late Bill Morrissey.

Acclaimed Jazz-Rock Fusion Band Project Grand Slam to Release New Single “The Rescue” On July 1

“The Rescue” is the first single from the inspired new album, “The Queen’s Carnival”, out August 19.

New York, NY, July 08, 2016 – Project Grand Slam, the acclaimed jazz-rock fusion band led by bassist/composer Robert Miller, will be releasing the first single from their upcoming full-length album, “The Queen’s Carnival”, on July 1. This single, “The Rescue”, draws from a variety of influences and highlights Miller’s unique approach to blending jazz and rock into a totally new sound. While mostly instrumental, the new album features a guest appearance by vocalist Lucy Woodward on Robert’s completely reimagined cover of The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me,” and will be released on August 19 via CEN/RED Distribution, a division of Sony Music.

“The Rescue” features Project Grand Slam exploring an infectious funk groove, but Miller says the song did not start off that way. “This was the final song that I wrote for the new album,” he notes. “I started off thinking about “Crossroads” by Cream, which is one of my all-time favorite live rock songs.” But as Miller and the band worked on the song it morphed into a kind of James Brown style funk meets jazz-rock fusion tune. “I’m so pleased with the way this one came out”, adds Miller. “The Rescue” has been a fixture of recent Project Grand Slam live shows and is already a proven crowd favorite.

Following the successful 2015 release of their third album, “Made in New York”, which featured the hit songs “New York City Groove” and “Fire”, Robert’s highly acclaimed reimagined cover of Jimi Hendrix’s classic, Project Grand Slam returns with “The Queen’s Carnival”. This exciting and fresh take on jazz-rock fusion (Miller calls “The Queen’s Carnival” a post-fusion record) features eleven tracks, including nine original songs by Robert and both vocal and instrumental versions of the Kinks’ classic, “You Really Got Me.” This continues Project Grand Slam’s tradition of reinventing popular classic rock songs as jazz-rock fusion and featuring vocal and instrumental versions of the cover track. “I think that people can relate to covers of popular songs, and it’s very cool to try and reimagine them in a way that is both true to the original but which takes the song to a whole other level”, says Robert.

About Project Grand Slam:
Project Grand Slam – the brainchild of bassist/leader/composer Robert Miller – continues to create and perform their brand of jazz-rock fusion at the highest level.

PGS’s third album, “Made In New York”, was released in September 2015 and featured two hit singles, “New York City Groove” (Robert’s love letter to his NYC home) and “Fire” (Robert’s re-imagined version of the Jimi Hendrix classic). Both singles featured 2013 “The Voice” semi-finalist Kat Robichaud on vocals. The band and Kat also filmed videos for “Groove” and “Fire” that have been viewed over 150,000 times to date. The reviews of the album and “Fire” were incredible, with words like “fantastic”, “damn fine album” and “hard to resist” for the album, and “superb”, “brilliant”, “excellent”, “stunning” and “unbelievable gem” for “Fire”.

Robert originally formed Project Grand Slam in 2007. PGS’s first two celebrated albums, “Play” (2008) and “Spring Dance” (2012), had two top radio singles – “The Captain Of Her Heart” (feat. Judie Tzuke on vocals) from Play, and “Catch You Later” from Spring Dance. The band also had a featured role in the hit NBC-TV series “Lipstick Jungle” starring Brooke Shields and Kim Raver, with five of the band’s tunes featured in the soundtrack.

Jerry Velona Releases New Album Entitled Love Radio

Boston based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jerry Velona has released his sixth album entitled Love Radio. The record contains 9 tracks ranging from rock to funk, soul, country and blues.

Boston, MA, USA (November 12, 2014) — Boston based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jerry Velona has released his sixth album entitled Love Radio. The record contains 9 tracks ranging from rock to funk, soul, country and blues.

Love Radio features six original compositions by Velona as well as three covers including the lead track, Looking for Lewis and Clark composed by Sid Griffin and a hit for his band The Long Ryders in the mid 1980’s. Velona updated some of the song’s lyrics with Griffin’s permission and about Velona’s version he commented: “Jerry Velona once again proves his musical worth in a balls-to-the-wall cover version of the Long Ryders’ ‘Looking For Lewis & Clark’, a pounding yet melodic take which begs the question: where are the great and fearless leaders of the present day? Velona’s committed vocal and approach to the lyric may not provide a complete set of answers but oh Mercy, they frame the question so very, very well.” A video for the song can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmAAaMoalag&feature=youtu.be.

The record features an assortment of some of the finest musicians in the Boston area including several faculty members of Velona’s alma mater The Berklee College of Music. Local singer Debbie Pierre is featured on background vocals on many of the tracks as well as the lead vocal on The Ghetto (ain’t going back). Hip hop artist and spoken word poet J Ivy is also featured on the same track which was adapted from the Donny Hathaway tune Ghetto first recorded in the 1970’s.

“I’ve spent a great deal of time over the past couple of years composing, arranging and recording these songs,” said Velona, “I’m very proud of the record and I think some of the tracks represent my best work to date.”

Velona produced the record in addition to singing most of the tracks and playing drums and percussion on many of them. The songs were recorded at Woolly Mammoth Sound in Waltham, MA and Q Division Studios in Somerville, MA. Mastering was done by Bill Bromfield at Clockwise Records, Nashville.

In addition to Looking for Lewis and Clark, Love Radio features several straight-ahead rock tracks including the humorous When I Wake Up, the semi-biographical First to Last and the subtly political The Bureau of Whatever.

Other highlights include the deft funk of Our Own Devices which Velona playfully describes as, “our ode to analog fun.” The album also features the bluesy Just Don’t Feel Like Christmas about which Velona says, “I was trying to express the melancholy that often accompanies the Christmas season.” The record is balanced out by covers of the Robbie Robertson song Forbidden Fruit and the somewhat obscure soul chestnut Baby What’cha Got (for me) recorded by the late soul singer Darrell Banks in l967.

Love Radio is available for sale at CDBaby.com http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/jerryvelona5. More information on Velona and the release can be obtained at http://www.jerryvelona.com.

Jerry Velona is a Boston area singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He’s played and sung in a number of Boston bands and has written songs which have appeared on HBO, MTV and elsewhere. Copenhagen, Denmark, February 24, 2012 – The Danish rock band Dead Smiling Pirates releases the new album ‘Harvest On A Hype’ on February 27th 2012.
