SYDNEY, Australia – February 18, 2011: Xeberg Pty. Ltd. has announced the release of CopyMetric, a new web-based software registration, metering, copy protection and update system. This new technology will offer developers of Windows applications a cost-effective protection against licensing breaches.

Copy protection through automatic software registration is an alternative to installation CD’s and dongles that can result in cheaper and easier to use software as it does not require inserting a CD, or some other physical proof of purchase, every time the user needs to access the software. This will lead to a wider use of the “try before you buy” marketing concept and will benefit both users and developers of commercial software.

CopyMetric can be integrated into a Windows application to automatically register each copy of the software on the developer’s website as it is used. The registration records will contain details of who is using the software and can be used to deny access to illegally installed copies or activate trial copies after payment has been received.

Additional features of CopyMetric include the ability to control the level of functionality available to individual users and publish version updates.

Automatically collected usage statistics data will provide an insight into where and how often the software is used and, most importantly, how many copies have been installed.

CopyMetric is currently available to the software development community in two editions, Lite and Complete, on a free trial basis and can be downloaded from www.copymetric.com.
