Royal Caribbean Awards Handling Specialty its Largest Fixed Price Contract in 58-Year History

Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, 2021-Jul-05 — /REAL TIME PRESS RELEASE/ — To have recently landed a project that can be identified as a company’s largest fixed price contract in its long history is reason enough to celebrate, but when it’s with a corporation who is intimately familiar with your work and company values, that validates an organization’s processes from sales and engineering to manufacturing, installation and service.

Handling Specialty made history in 1995 when it was contracted to produce the underwater stage lift system for Cirque du Soleil at the Bellagio, in Las Vegas. The ‘O’ show continues to perform 2 shows per night after 24 years on the original Handling Specialty lift systems. It is an extraordinary engineering feat from a world class SME located in the heart of Niagara, in Grimsby, Ontario.

Since that monumental moment for the company, several underwater stage lift systems have been designed, built and installed into multiple theatres including the City of Dreams theatre, which runs The House of Dancing Water show in Macau. This epic undertaking gained Handling Specialty a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Handling Specialty is the world leader in underwater theatrical spectacles, and is installing systems all over the world. They are also flown to remote vacation locations to provide highly skilled technicians to repair or maintain these multi million-dollar systems efficiently to ensure that the show(s) go on.

This latest win for the company is the accumulation of an almost 20-year relationship designing and building for Royal Caribbean International. “This project began 2.5-years ago with technical sales and conceptual engineering leading the charge to win this prestigious venture,” says Tom Beach, President of Handling Specialty and the lead sales associate on this project. “We cherish our relationship with Royal Caribbean and with a revenue stream via new builds, service, and dry dock overhauls that will last over 10-plus-years, we understand what it takes to keep our customers happy.”

Handling Specialty’s turnkey solutions for Royal Caribbean includes conceptual engineering and contract settlements to full design including all electrical and hydraulic networks, custom stage flooring, installation, training, commissioning and on-going MRO.

“Experience goes a long way in winning a project as large as this,” Beach goes on to say. “Deploying professionals and skilled technicians to Finland over the next 6 years to install our equipment will be a challenge, but we’ve completed similar scenarios many times before.”

In March of 2021, Handling Specialty sent a team of technicians to Barbados where they quarantined on the Allure of the Seas for 14 days, one of the Oasis class of ships, and then performed planned maintenance on the ship’s underwater stage lift equipment. This same group of people went on to Spain where they completed similar work on Harmony of the Seas. Freighting the parts and flying people to these locations during a pandemic and successfully completing the work ahead of schedule is another nod to Handling Specialty’s abilities to organize massive projects and perform the work without interruption. It also speaks to the quality of the people working at Handling Specialty, and the lengths they will go to, to see a job through.

“Having worked together for almost 20 years on our Oasis class ships, I’m thrilled to be partnering with Handling Specialty again.” – Christopher Vlassopulos, Superintendent SLVR & Architectural Lighting for Royal Caribbean International & Celebrity Cruises, says.

The financial impact on the Niagara-based company is a welcome one. Entertainment industry builds have been scarce through the pandemic and to come out the other end with a project of this size is a boost to company moral and another nod to Handling Specialty’s impressive track record designing and building stage lift systems for the entertainment industry.

Beach says of the future, “I feel certain that Handling Specialty will continue our relationship with Royal Caribbean International and international ship yards for decades.”

Las Vegas-Based Architecture and Design Firm Punch Architecture Completes Extensive Makeover of High-End Boston Hotel Lounge

When Boston’s award-winning hotel Kimpton Nine Zero embarked on its bold, top-to-bottom transformation last year, they also wanted to take its on-site bar/restaurant Highball Lounge and undergo an extensive makeover to better reflect the hotel’s traditional-meets-contemporary transformation.

Las Vegas, NV, October 09, 2018 — When Boston’s award-winning hotel Kimpton Nine Zero embarked on its bold, top-to-bottom transformation last year, they also wanted to take its on-site bar/restaurant Highball Lounge and undergo an extensive makeover to better reflect the hotel’s traditional-meets-contemporary transformation.

Enter up-and-coming Las Vegas-based (with offices in Denver, Los Angeles, and New York City) design and architecture firm Punch Architecture, which was tasked with the makeover of the Highball Lounge to become the Better Sorts Social Club, a glamorous cocktail-forward, elevated-food concept that better fit with Nine Zero’s concept of melding the city of Boston’s history and tradition with the luxurious contemporary design and social aesthetic of today’s finest luxury hotels.

Punch Architecture, better known as simply Punch, was tasked with all the interior design and fabricated a portion of the new lounge’s furniture. The project, from conception to construction, took about 18 months for the 3,200-square-foot space

“We wanted it to be a little quirky, fun and playful, but also classy,” says Zak Ostrowski, one of Punch’s three partners along with Drew Gregory and Clemente Cicoria. “We wanted it to appeal to the higher-end Boston Brahmins era and still relate to a younger crowd. It has high-end cocktails and food, but it’s also a place you could go to after a game at Fenway (Park) or after a Celtics game.”

Ostrowski said they wanted to strike a balance between the traditional social club and its low lighting, dark wood panels and stateliness and a more modern upscale cocktail lounge with its open, airy atmosphere, brighter lighting and contemporary furniture. They also wanted to dovetail with Nine Zero’s new aesthetic, which blends modern sophistication with a nod to Boston’s storied history.

He says Better Sorts’ design concept is “a throwback to the golden age of classic spirit bars with its elegant sexiness, cheeky sensibilities, and enigmatic sensuality.”

The interior materials consist of rich and warm American Black Walnut wood walls and flooring contrasted with moody burnished dark green plaster colors, Nero Marquina marble, weathered leathers, textural sea glaze green tiles, exotic yet subtle wallpapers, dark and mysterious antique mirrors, and sultry lighting throughout the space.

The custom furniture pieces are made of rich leathers, soft velvets, and jewel tone colors set off by hand-crafted walnut and ambrosia maple tables with metal and burl inlays (designed and made by Punch), gently resting on colorful vintage Persian rugs. Better Sorts décor is filled with whimsical photos, a mix of reclaimed decorative art deco and regency objects made of handblown glass, crystal and brass.

“It was a great project,” says Ostrowski. “We were able to use a rich, yet comfortable material palette, that works well with the hotel’s redesign. There were a lot of parties involved in the design, so it was a fun collaborative process. We also wanted to be open-minded and have the flexibility to incorporate the Boston environment.”

Punch is no stranger to high-end restaurant and lounge design, winning an AIA award for celebrity Chef Chris Cosentino’s Jackrabbit at The Duniway Hotel in Portland, Oregon and designing such dazzling establishments as Maison Pickle in New York City, and Element Kitchen & Cocktail in Denver, Colorado. Punch has also been recognized for its commercial and residential designs. The Punch firm also includes Punch Fab, its fabrication, furniture, and R&D department and Punch & Pie, its business strategy and concept department.

Founded only three years ago, Ostrowski feels Punch’s work on Better Sorts Social Club is another feather in its cap.

“We’re stoked,” he says. “We are very satisfied with the results.”

Rockefeller Spirits Now Available at Lee’s Discount Liquor in Las Vegas

Vintage Rockefeller Wine & Spirits brands are now available for purchase at Lee’s Discount Liquor, the No. 1 liquor retailer in Las Vegas with 15 locations around southern Nevada.

New York, NY, May 08, 2013 – Vintage Rockefeller Wine & Spirits brands are now available for purchase at Lee’s Discount Liquor, the No. 1 liquor retailer in Las Vegas with 15 locations around southern Nevada.

Lee’s Discount Liquor (www.LeesLiquorlv.com) will feature Empire Rockefeller Vodka, Signature Rockefeller Cognac and F. Rockefeller and Sons vintage 2004 champagne.

Empire Rockefeller Vodka came to market in 2012 and has quickly earned respect for its unique smooth taste. It is the only vodka in the world that is distilled six times in a copper cognac kettle in the Cognac region of France. The winter wheat used for Empire Rockefeller Vodka is done organically in France in the dedication of being as natural as possible. The water used in its production comes from pristine French springs, filtered through Champagne limestone. Empire Rockefeller starts off with what can be described as a very mild sweet start. This taste greets and lingers for a few seconds and gives way to a full-bodied middle followed by an extraordinary smooth, subtle finish.

F. Rockefeller and Sons Champagne is a vintage 2004 champagne that features a delicate stream of bubbles, a golden straw color and honey-mingled aromas with notes of hazelnut and subtle notes of almond paste and vanilla. It has been described as fresh, well-rounded and astonishingly persistent.

Signature Rockefeller Cognac features three lines of cognac distilled from a vineyard in the Cognac region of France. The VS line is a fine blend of Fins Bois & Borderie crus, aged in French oak casks. It is the perfect drink for those who want a cognac with a hint of ripe fruit, spring blossom and fresh oak. The VSOP line has a unique personality, with a mixture of fruity Fins Bois and Grande & Petite champagne. It features an extraordinary vanilla finesse that derives from decade-old French oak barrels. The XO line features a blend of fruit that comes from a 20-year-old eaux-de-vie that has reached full maturity. Patrons will feel their taste buds explode with delight once the caramelized peach, almond and candied fruits come into contact.

Vintage Rockefeller Wine & Spirits produces a portfolio of high quality vodka, champagne, cognac produced in France, and coming soon Red & White Wines. It is currently distributed in the United States in New York, Florida, Nevada and Pennsylvania with more states being rolled out later this year. Las Vegas Based Rock Quartet Light The Black Skye Release Heartfelt Ballad About Addiction, “I Wish You”

The Las Vegas based rock band, LIGHT THE BLACK SKYE, is releasing their single “I Wish You”, available via download on iTunes.

Los Angeles, CA, February 10, 2012 – The Las Vegas based rock band, LIGHT THE BLACK SKYE, is releasing their single “I Wish You”, available via download on iTunes. “I Wish You”, off their newest 12-track album, Looking Out Looking In, is a heartfelt track about the emotional struggles of family and friends, trying to help a loved one battle the agony of drug and alcohol addiction.

The inspiration behind this emotional ballad is derived from A&E’s hit reality show “Intervention”, as members felt the emotional connection while watching a recent episode and later wrote the song that would reach out to those affected by drug and alcohol addictions. The band member’s hope for the song is that it at least “touches one person’s soul on a deep enough level, to perhaps help that person move towards a positive healthy life”.

The track, “I Wish You” is the only track in Light the Black Skye’s recording history that was originally released as a demo and subsequently the same version was released as the final project. It was undeniable to those around the success of Light the Black Skye that they had reached magic and their goal with this single, the very first time around.

The idea behind Light the Black Skye came together late one night during a Las Vegas weekend reunion between members Joe Nassar and Steven Ossana, both classmates from New York. It was also in Las Vegas where the band had their debut performance at the House of Blues. Light the Black Skye have been together since 2008 performing high octane live shows and penning rock style track for their newest album, Looking Out Looking In. Recently, Light the Black Skye was chosen by the members of KISS, to open for them in New York at the Nikon Jones Beach Theater.
