Author Shows How Greek Gods and Goddesses Misbehaved

The strange and often quite ungodly behavior of the legendary Greek Gods and Goddesses continues to fascinate the modern mind, and is currently chronicled in a just-published Kindle book

Moreno Valley, CA, July 25, 2013 – The strange and often quite ungodly behavior of the legendary Greek Gods and Goddesses continues to fascinate the modern mind, and is currently chronicled in a just-published Kindle book featured at http://www.amazon.com/Greek-Gods-Goddesses-Gone-ebook/dp/B00DG9E7XS/. Its authors, Michael Rank and Alexander Murray, cite many familiar ribald stories concerning the antics attributed to Zeus and his brethren, which contribute to the “gods gone wild” theme of the book title. The promotional site page on Amazon summarizes the book content and the content to show how the ancient Greeks related to the gods despite their known fickle or capricious behavior.

Many cultural observers, writers and anthropologists believe – like the authors – that the influence and persistence of the ancient Greek myths are still relevant, as they see many parallels with modern thought and other major faiths. Actor Casey William Walker, for example, sees a tie-in with the story where “Zeus bound (the Titan Prometheus) in chains for 1000 years and was caused inexplicable torture and pain when an eagle would devour his liver every day after it grew back from the day previous. But later his story evolved into one of heroism because he was seen as mankind’s advocate, whereas the other Gods seemed selfish and looked upon man with little regard.” This makes a tie-in to other religions.

Many episodes in the Kindle book also well on the tawdry side of the gods, particularly in regards to sex. The philandering Zeus and other Greek gods and goddesses are shown to connect with the flaws of mortal humans, in a manner that most modern readers will find almost soap opera-like compelling. One web writer notes “The gods of ancient Greece were stories told to the masses – as are most gods. What’s the point of telling a story if nobody’s going to listen to it? They were projections of ourselves onto a universal scale. All gods ever described throughout history can be shown to have such petty, impulsive aspects to them that show beyond a doubt that they came from something human.”

The re-popularization of the antics of Greek gods and goddesses at http://www.amazon.com/Greek-Gods-Goddesses-Gone-ebook/dp/B00DG9E7XS/ is expected to reinforce the ongoing appeal of the ancient stories (i.e., what else explains the recent ‘Wrath of the Titans’ epic movies, and the BBC development of a new TV series based on Greek myths?). The Kindle book is expected to be available for sale for the foreseeable future, and has been so far well received by Amazon reviewers.
