Its authors, Michael Rank and Alexander Murray, cite many familiar ribald stories concerning the antics attributed to Zeus and his brethren, which contribute to the “gods gone wild” theme of the book title. Many cultural observers, writers and anthropologists believe – like the authors – that the influence and persistence of the ancient Greek myths are still relevant, as they see many parallels with modern thought and other major faiths. Actor Casey William Walker, for example, sees a tie-in with the story where “Zeus bound (the Titan Prometheus) in chains for 1000 years and was caused inexplicable torture and pain when an eagle would devour his liver every day after it grew back from the day previous. They were projections of ourselves onto a universal scale.
