Business Process Management tools generally offer as an additional mechanism the possibility to perform ‘simulations’, i.e., to execute the processes virtually in imaginary scenarios in order to understand and quantify any circumstances that affect their execution. These simulations should reveal bottlenecks, overloads, unequal distribution of workloads, excessive times, etc.

There are two non-exclusive ways to conduct simulations:
– Statistical Simulation, this is the most common but also the less reliable.
