Phoenix-Based Singer-Songwriter Jonathan Cavier Releases Cover of Sting’s “Fields of Gold”

“Fields of Gold” is the third installment in the monthly “Cavier Covers” series.

Los Angeles, CA, October 28, 2016 – In what is now the third song in the “Cavier Covers” series, Jonathan Cavier’s version of the Sting classic “Fields of Gold” is available today. The song can be purchased and downloaded from iTunes, Amazon, and all major digital outlets. The “Cavier Covers” series debuted in August of this year and allows Jonathan Cavier to put his signature twist on a variety of songs that are important to his musical life. Previous covers of “The Flame” by Cheap Trick and “Save a Prayer” by Duran Duran are the first two songs in the series and show Jonathan paying homage to two of his most important influences.

Sting’s iconic songwriting has been a major influence on Cavier’s original material. The release of this version of “Fields of Gold” has allowed Cavier to delve even deeper into examining Sting’s early 90’s sound. While this version is quite faithful to the original, it also incorporates several elements of Jonathan’s original material – including more pronounced acoustic guitar than the original version.

Cavier has also released his music (including his debut solo album ‘Premier’) on Spotify, and is continuing a monthly vlog series revolving around interesting stories about his music, his semi-professional tennis career, and more on his YouTube channel.

About Jonathan Cavier:

Originally from Northern California, Cavier (pronounced “cav-AIR”) has been based in Phoenix, AZ for several years and up until recently was performing as Alan Clark in atmospheric pop duo EyeTalk. Over the course of ten years and five albums, this venture saw Cavier’s music reach audiences as far-flung as Italy, the UK, and Australia. After five albums and hundreds of shows played throughout the US, Jonathan Cavier has reimagined himself and has formed a new musical identity on his debut solo album Premier. In addition to his musical endeavors, Cavier is a semi-professional tennis player and a member of the USTA and IFT. Cavier says that practicing and playing in tournaments is like “the fountain of youth.”

Western Story Wins International Book Award

Nevada silver rush thriller was 100 years in the making. A man and a woman, each searching for missing family members, clash amid a Nevada silver rush scheme that leaves both unsure who to trust—and scrambling to stay alive.

Midvale, Utah, October 21, 2016 – What if you came home after a journey and your family was no longer there? What if someone else was living in your house, running what you used to manage — and trying to kill you? So begins the thriller “To Swallow the Earth,” which won this year’s International Book Award for western novel.

“It’s really my grandfather’s story,” says co-author Karl Beckstrand. “My grandfather grew up exploring the Sierra Nevada Mountains on horseback a hundred years ago. He used that setting for his mystery–set in the Nevada silver rush,” Beckstrand said.

After his grandfather passed away in 1992, Beckstrand inherited the manuscript. “My challenge was to tighten his story and develop the characters while preserving the action, suspense and earthy vernacular.”

Beckstrand, who grew up in San Jose, California, has won other literary awards, but this one is special. “It kind of validates my grandfather’s vision — gives him a nod — even beyond the grave.” The thriller also was named a finalist for the Laramie Award and garnered Literary Classics’ seal of approval.

“It’s getting great reviews online as well,” Beckstrand said. “The main character is an outcast, half-Mexican, raised by American Indians. But he’s fearless and loyal to his friends and family.” In addition to a tough, dark hero, there’s a gutsy heroine who is unintimidated in the worst kinds of opposition. Beckstrand’s stories usually have characters of color and surprises at the end.

Bestselling author Beckstrand heads Premio Publishing & Gozo Books, which produces multicultural books for educators, libraries, and families. His fifteenth book may be found at PremioBooks.com and via major booksellers and distributors. The e-book will be temporarily free on Kindle and other platforms through Nov. 25. http://tinyurl.com/js6g6tj.

Beckstrand will present on publishing Tues., Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Weber County Library 2039 W. 4000 South, Roy, Utah and Sat., Nov. 5 from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Viridian Center 8030 S. 1825 West, West Jordan, Utah. Book trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CzbQKuLVr8

Pure, Raw Honey from Carmel Honey Company, Started by 11-Year-Old Carmel Student, Makes for Great Gift for the Ultimate Foodie

Looking for the perfect gift for the ultimate foodie on your list this holiday season?

Carmel, CA, October 18, 2016 — Looking for the perfect gift for the ultimate foodie on your list this holiday season? How about a gift that is locally produced, helps the environment and contributes to research and education for the betterment of the world?

Honey from Carmel Honey Company, which was founded by a 13-year-old Carmel student Jake Reisdorf who was 11 at the time, fits the bill perfectly.

The four types of honey currently available — Sage Honey, Wildflower Honey, Orange Blossom Honey and Meadowfoam Honey — from Carmel Honey Company are all-natural, pure, raw, premium honey that come straight from the hive.

And Reisdorf, as part of his “Jake Gives Back” program, donates a portion of his honey sales proceeds to organizations that are expanding research and education efforts by addressing the production, nutritional value, health benefits, economics, and/or quality standards of honey bees and honey.

“I’m just an average 13-year-old who likes honey bees,” Reisdorf told California Bountiful magazine. “With beekeeping, you are helping the environment and it is really fun and interesting. I’m all about the education and practicing beekeeping and doing honey. The message that I want everyone to know is: If the bees go, we go, so help save the bees.”

In addition to individual jars of honey, Carmel Honey Company offers three special packages perfect for the foodie on your gift list: Carmel Honey Company Honey Sampler, Honeycomb and Honey Stix.

The Sampler is the ideal way to sample all four pure, raw, premium honey varietals. This set includes 3-oz. jars of Sage Honey, Wildflower Honey, Orange Blossom Honey and Meadowfoam Honey.

They are packaged ready for gift giving in an elegant clear gift bag and gold bow. It can also be opened and separated — allowing one to keep their favorite varietal and give the others as secret Santa gifts.

Honeycomb is the absolute purest form of honey. Circular frames are placed inside the beehive and the honey bees instinctively know to build it out first with wax, then fill it with honey. Since the honey bees make the wax and honey, the 8-oz rounds are 100% edible.

Harvested individually at different times, from a variety of hives, no two rounds will taste exactly the same. These honeycombs are delicious on a cheese board or cut and placed over soft-serve ice cream. Also an excellent gift for the foodie in your life.

Honey Stix offer a great boost of energy in a convenient package. In a lunchbox or purse this 12-pack is an easy way to curb sweet cravings the natural way. Filled with the Wildflower Honey varietal, each Stix contains 1 teaspoon of honey. Excellent portion control for tea and coffee and also an ideal stocking stuffer or unique gift for all ages.

And remember, when you purchase a jar of honey from the Carmel Honey Company, (or place a honey bee pollination hive in your backyard), you have contributed to the research and education of the public on the importance of pollination and the benefits of the honey bee.

Carmel Honey Company honey can be purchased directly from the website (which grew out of his elementary class project) at www.carmelhoneycompany.com.

About Jake and Carmel Honey Company:

Jake Reisdorf is the chief beekeeper and owner of Carmel Honey Company, which he started as part of a school project where his teacher assigned professions to each student and directed them to research the profession and build a presentation on it.

While researching his assigned profession of website designer, Jake, 11 years old at the time, decided to take it one step further and actually create a real website. At that time, Jake had taken one beekeeping class with his Dad and thought it would be cool to design a website about honey bees.

Not only did Jake get an “A” on the project, but it inspired him and spurred him to start Carmel Honey Company. That was three years ago.

His passion for honey bees grew as he learned about Colony Collapse Disorder and real honey. Expanding his research and education drove Jake to learn more about honey and bees and ultimately decide it was critical to give back.

In addition, Jake places hives on residential and commercial properties to raise awareness and encourage others to support the honey bee.

The “Jake Gives Back” program includes sharing honey bee knowledge with kids and adults of all ages. Whether he is in a classroom speaking to first-grade students, or at a corporate event talking with business owners and seasoned professionals, his passion and appreciation of how honey bees impact our world is infectious. He also “gives back” by making a financial donation to honey bee research and education organizations.

Jake currently attends 8th grade at Carmel Middle School and keeps his knowledge of Apiology (the scientific study of bees) current by continuing to manage his own honey bee hives and attending industry conferences throughout the country.

For its first holiday season, The Clement Palo Alto, which opened in March, will not only decorate the hotel in holiday finery, but participate in the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford Wishing Tree, which will help families with critically ill children staying at the House.

Palo Alto, CA, October 17, 2016 — For its first holiday season, The Clement Palo Alto, which opened in March, will not only decorate the hotel in holiday finery, but participate in the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford Wishing Tree, which will help families with critically ill children staying at the House.

Each fall, the house creates hundreds of paper ornaments, each one listing a needed household item or toy for the house or our families. The Wishing Tree in the lobby of The Clement will be decorated with these ornaments and help provide comfort and support to families who must spend their holidays far from home.

Ronald McDonald House at Stanford creates a home-away-from-home and supportive community for families of children with life-threatening illnesses receiving specialized treatment at local hospitals.

In addition to the Wishing Tree, The Clement is also participating in Meals for Munchkins, a program of Ronald McDonald House in which families, co-workers, local restaurants, civic organizations, and many other groups provide meals to the children and their families three to five days out of any given week.

The Clement is providing a team of volunteers who will provide for and prepare meals in November and again in January as part of the program.

The volunteers choose a menu, shop for groceries and cook dinner for 85 family members and kids receiving treatment at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto. In the past, menus have included spaghetti and meatballs, tacos, grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, and chicken and fresh vegetables.

And, in addition to the Wishing Tree and the beautifully decorated lobby, the hotel will be serving hot cider and fresh-baked cookies during the holiday season.

The Clement Palo Alto opened its doors March 2016 and is one of the most innovative, personalized and unique luxury hotels in the country.

With 23 spacious and richly appointed one-bedroom suites, The Clement Palo Alto sets a new standard for personalized luxury accommodations in a contemporary residential-style atmosphere.

While unparalleled service is key to any great luxury hotel, The Clement Palo Alto takes its impeccable service to another level with an all-inclusive concept, including personalized concierge services, breakfast, lunch and dinner in an on-premise location of the guest’s choice. All wine, beer and cocktails, in-room mini-refrigerator (stocked with the guest’s favorites), and fully-stocked Guest Pantry available around the clock, are just a few of the amenities included in this all-inclusive experience.

In fact, The Clement Palo Alto is more than all-inclusive, it is all-exclusive, catering exclusively to the guest’s personal tastes and desires.

The Clement Palo Alto is ideally located across from Stanford University and next to downtown Palo Alto, with its award-winning restaurants, world-class shopping and upscale spas. It is just 45 minutes south of San Francisco and only 30 minutes north of San Jose, not only making it convenient, but easily accessible to the world-famous sights and myriad activities of both cities.

Singer Elijah Rock Launches IndieGoGo Campaign for Great American Songbook Album ‘Gershwin For My Soul’

Cleveland-born baritone Elijah Rock is pleased to announce the IndieGoGo campaign for his newest album, ‘Gershwin For My Soul’.

Los Angeles CA, October 14, 2016 – Cleveland-born baritone Elijah Rock is pleased to announce the IndieGoGo campaign for his newest album, ‘Gershwin For My Soul’. Ongoing through October 20, 2016, the singer’s campaign hopes to raise $40,000 for the promotion of the recently recorded traditional pop album. Fans and supporters can donate via IndieGoGo.com and Rock has made exciting perks available to those who donate at every price point. These perks range from a $5 single download and facebook shout out all the way up to a $5,000 VIP trip (including airfare) for two to an Elijah Rock performance along with a variety of Elijah Rock merch.

‘Gershwin For My Soul’ represents a full circle journey for Rock, as he sang to his first Gershwin songs at 16 in “Porgy & Bess” at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Over the years, Rock has continued to return back to the classics penned in the early 20th century by Ira and George Gershwin. Carrying this art forward, Elijah Rock dove into this project with relish and the trio of producer/arranger/pianist Kevin Toney, bassist John B. Williams, and drummer Greg Paul, plus guitarist Jacques Lesure in the west coast jazz sanctuary of Nolan Shaheed’s studio.

Stream “Gershwin For My Soul” – PRIVATE LINK

The 12-song CD opens with “S’Wonderful,” a tender fitting contemporary take a la Al Jarreau. “Fascinatin’ Rhythm” and “Our Love Is Here To Stay” are drenched in that punchy syncopated manner that most recalls their original era, the latter with some of Toney’s signature piano flourish. “I Can’t Get Started” swings and chugs with a four on the floor groove while the lovely “Long Ago and Far Away” floats on a slow hot wind bossa beat. Elijah milks the rarely heard extended introduction to “How Long Has This Been Goin’ On” before it falls like feathers into the brushed blues of its well known verses.

The second half of ‘Gershwin For My Soul” is where more chances are taken. The title track – the sole original penned by Rock and Toney – is a hip churchy blues where Elijah testifies his fascination with all things Gershwin. It’s followed boldly by “Tchaikovsky (And the Russians),” a hip hop swing interlude perfect post the Tonys-sweeping genre bending musical “Hamilton”. And Elijah brings his tap shoes in for solo and drum-dueling duties on the revival rave-up stomp “I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’.” Most movingly, the focus becomes sheer aural nudity on a trio of ballads Elijah submerges in into that shat showcase the full resonant beauty of his voice and his skills of interpretation from the acting world. They are the relaxed and romantic “Shall We Dance,” the parlor song swoon of “Love Walked In,” and the tour-de-force closer “Isn’t it a Pity,” a bluesy ballad wish of delicious diction and a heart-stopping dip into a cinematic so long.

“Before this experience, I hadn’t really embraced the balladeer aspect of my gift,” Rock reflects. “It was about me being vulnerable enough to know I could do it. It’s been an interesting transformation… everything slowed down. There’s space for introspection and that moment to moment feeling of the lyric. I fell in love with the space between the notes and the simplicity of telling the story.”

Rock – whose resume boasts a decade and a half of acclaimed, across-the-board accomplishments in stage, film, and television – found the perfect collaborator in Kevin Toney whose work as a keyboardist, composer, arranger, author educator, a co-founder of the 70s R&B-Jazz group the Blackbyrds provided the optimal springboard for Rock to bounce concepts off. ”Kevin Toney is a virtuoso whose experience speaks for itself,” Rock says. We brought our authentic creative selves to the material and in that it because uniquely ours.”

Indie Charting Angie and the Deserters Release Second Americana and Alt-Country EP ‘You’ October 7 2016

Southern California based band Angie and the Deserters introduce their highly anticipated EP, You, which will be available on October 7, 2016 through Topanga Canyon Records.

Los Angeles, CA, October 06, 2016 – Southern California based band Angie and the Deserters introduce their highly anticipated EP, You, which will be available on October 7, 2016 through Topanga Canyon Records. The six-song collection includes the first released single and the title-track “You”. The EP is a follow-up to this year’s Blood Like Wine record, which featured hit lead singles, “Country Radio” and “The Gift” and represents the second half of their recent Nashville recordings.

Angie and the Deserters consistently display a high sense of quality and professionalism throughout their brand from their music, to their music videos and to their artwork. The cover photo on the You record features lead vocalist, Angie Bruyere which was taken by the legendary rock n’ roll photographer, Henry Diltz.

Diltz has worked with legendary artists such as The Eagles, Neil Young, Linda Rondstadt, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, and so many more.

“Having the experience of spending the day shooting with Henry Diltz was a dream for me. He really captured me in a way that no one else has,” Bruyere says.

In their second EP, Angie and the Deserters continue to illustrate their raw California sound with their dreamy guitar riffs and gritty vocals. The band dives into the second chapter of Angie’s poetic lyricism and demonstrates a creative connection with their unique sound. You crosses genre lines and mixes the EP with half Americana oriented songs and the other half layered with alternative country influences. Angie’s gravelly and rule breaking vocals are complimented by the Deserters’ (Kyle Stevens, Danny Hulsizer, & Chris Lawrence) compelling instrumentals. Together the group evokes vivid imagery and brings their heartwarming stories to life.

“The impeccable production puts everything forward with a bright sheen, but there’s plenty of bite here for even the biggest sound merchant. Angie and the Deserters can coax deep feeling from their songwriting and instruments, but they are equally capable of harnessing considerable firepower when the moment calls for it.” – No Depression

The band’s title-track, “You” describes a time of realization in a withering relationship. Bruyere’s chilling vocals reinforce that the recurring secrets must end and that it is time to move on without her loved one. Their upcoming music video tells the story of an old married couple that begins to grow apart. The older woman must leave behind the man she once loved. Filmed in Bandit Town, California, the “You” music video was directed by Michael Schmidt (21 Days Under the Sky).

“Angie and the Deserters frontwoman spits and snarls with a smoky seduction”- The Alternate Root

It is no question that the band injects pure passion into their music and sets a unique listening experience to their audience. Angie and the Deserters’ set an impactful mark into the scene with their first music video, “Country Radio” which reached over 32K views on Facebook and YouTube. The band’s second single “The Gift” debuted at #1 on Radio Indie Alliance charts the first week of its release. The band was also featured and reviewed by The Country Startpage, The Alternate Root, Fender and more. Be sure to keep an eye out for the band’s upcoming singles “Forgetting to Forget” and “Stay” off the You EP.

You is the second release from the bands Nashville sessions which were recorded in the legendary Castle Recording Studios with renowned country producer, Jeff Huskins (Clint Black, Keith Urban) and mastered by Grammy Winning, Bod Ludwig (Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix).

Pop-Rock Singer-Songwriter Jonathan Cavier Releases Cheap Trick Cover “The Flame”

“The Flame” is the second installment in the “Cavier Covers” series.

Los Angeles, CA, October 06, 2016 – Pop singer-songwriter Jonathan Cavier has released his version of the classic Cheap Trick song “The Flame” available now on iTunes and other major retail outlets. The first song in the Cavier Covers series is a faithful rendition of Duran Duran’s “Save a Prayer” also available now.

BUY ON ITUNES BUY ON AMAZON

Jonathan Cavier has always been a fan of Cheap Trick and their music has influenced his own in a variety of ways. One subtle page that Jonathan has taken out of the Cheap Trick book is the use of a twelve-string bass on his debut solo album Premier, which was released earlier this year. Tom Peterson, bassist for Cheap Trick, is well known for playing a twelve-string bass, and is even credited as the brainchild behind the instrument’s creation in 1977. As the second song in the Cavier Covers series, “The Flame” gives Cavier a unique chance to highlight this instrument that is so important to the sound of his original music.

Cavier has also recently released a performance video for his new studio song “Promise”, which appears on Premier. The video shows Jonathan in his studio, performing the song with his signature twelve-string acoustic guitar and keyboard setup. You can view the video along with vlogs from Jonathan about various topics on his YouTube channel.

About Jonathan Cavier:
Originally from Northern California, Cavier (pronounced “cav-AIR”) has been based in Phoenix, AZ for several years and up until recently was performing as Alan Clark in atmospheric pop duo EyeTalk. Cranky George to Release Debut Indie Rock Full Length Fat Lot of Good on October 14

Fat Lot of Good features the first single and video “Nighttime”, available now!

Los Angeles, CA, October 04, 2016 – Cranky George, the folk-influenced indie rock band featuring actor Dermot Mulroney and co-founder of The Pogues, James Fearnley, will be releasing their debut full-length album, Fat Lot of Good, on October 14. The album will be released in digital and CD formats along with a limited edition of 450 double gatefold albums of heavyweight vinyl, each signed and numbered by the band. The music on the record, while diverse, features common threads such as Cranky George’s signature folk-inspired instrumentation – including accordion, violin, mandolin, acoustic guitars and ukuleles.

Recorded over a span of five years at Brad’s Seagrass Studio, Fat Lot of Good tips music from the bucket that dredges the confluence of the Danube, the Shannon and the Missouri. The album embraces fourteen songs, individually divergent, but which together ply a course from haven, round horn and back to harbor, by means of lullaby, torch song, sea shanty and murder ballad – an album which, with compassion, irony, humor and sometimes horror, tells stories of desire, love, loss, cruelty, ruination and pity.

One highlight of the album is the first single, “Nighttime” which draws from a variety of influences including legendary Canadian indie rockers Arcade Fire and is available now. Cranky George describes “Nighttime” as “Big in the way that Coldplay is big,” and says that the song is “A siren call for lovers – for anyone who’s ever slept beside someone they loved and wished the night would never end.” Featuring Kieran Mulroney on vocals, the song is a mid-tempo song from the heart and draws equally from groups as diverse as Elbow, The Decemberists, Coldplay, and Band of Horses while incorporating dripping guitars and horns at the climax. The accompanying music video features the five members of Cranky George as they perform the song and interweaves the story of a woman in distress, pining and longing for a lost love.

Watch the Video for “Nighttime” Here

As a perfect foil to the effervescence of the musicianship in Cranky George, the band’s blend of vocal harmonies, its cross-graining of voices – James’s chiselly drone, the honeyed timbre of Sebastian’s voice, Brad’s incisive falsetto, the Mulroney brothers’ baritones – Kieran’s urgent, Dermot’s lusty – is as sturdy as marine plywood.

About Cranky George:
Los Angeles based Cranky George has brought together members and musical styles from both sides of the Atlantic to create a unique take on folk-influenced indie rock that is as special and diverse as the members themselves.

James Fearnley, co- founder and accordionist for the London-Irish folk-punk band, The Pogues, and the Mulroney brothers, Kieran and Dermot, siblings from a large, Irish-American family from Alexandria, VA, first came together as neighbors in Hollywood, California. While both of the Mulroney siblings are known for their work on and behind the screen with movies, they are both classically trained musicians; Dermot on the cello, mandolin, and guitar and Kieran on violin, ukulele, and tenor guitar. In 1994, they formed the LA based band, The Low and Sweet Orchestra, which released an acclaimed record, Goodbye to All That, on Interscope Records in 1996. After The Low and Sweet Orchestra split, both Mulroney brothers and Fearnley formed the Cranky George Trio.
