Amilia K Spicer to Release New Single and Music Video “Harlan” on September 7th!

The music video premieres on September 7th, and the track goes to radio on September 10th.

Los Angeles, CA, August 31, 2018 – After a whirlwind year of touring around the United States, Americana songwriter Amilia K Spicer is thrilled to officially release “Harlan” as her third single from “Wow and Flutter.” The music video premieres on September 7th, and the track goes to radio on September 10th.

“Harlan” marks Spicer’s third foray into directing music videos for this album, once again producing and filming it with production partner, Edward Romero.

Using footage from Harlan and rural Pennsylvania (Spicer’s childhood state),the video follows Spicer’s personal journey to the birthplace of her father. It merges landscapes from both, with vacant lots and abandoned buildings becoming farm landscapes with a golden hue.

“I know what I cannot see,” she sings. “Dove tailed swallow been follow in’ me. I cannot reach it, I can’t outrun – take these halves and make them one.”

Spicer’s lyrics are full of vivid imagery, and sensual confessions. As she sings of her dreams “filled with waltzes,” describes the whisky running through her “like Mississippi mud,” and remembers the sound of “a fiddle playing in a child’s room,” the scenes evoke a crystal-clear glimpse into her nostalgia.

When Spicer traveled to Harlan to film the music video, she searched for her Father’s home, only to find a mostly barren lot at the address.

“I wandered around,” Spicer recalls, “and noticed something shiny in the dirt. Turned out to be several pieces of coal, which I now have. Sometimes a lump of coal is a beautiful gift.”

In “Harlan,” what American Songwriter Magazine said of “Wow and Flutter” rings true: It’s “a timeless brand-new Americana classic.”

“Harlan” debuts September7th.

About Amilia K Spicer:

Amilia K Spicer’s latest album is the triumph Wow and Flutter, which is Spicer’s thirdrelease. It landed on many year-end best-of lists for 2017. Despite the acclaim, Spicer retains an underground mystique to her, perhaps due to her “don’t fence me in” attitude (also the name of her record label). In addition to performing, Spicer spends time traveling (recently to Tibet and Bhutan), showcasing her photography, and directing/producing indie films.

Throughout 2018, Spicer performed frequently in the Americana festival circuit. Shewowed fans with a full band set at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas, as well as the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival in Oklahoma. Furthermore, she’s performed more intimately at venues across the US, including 30A Songwriters Festival in January.

Aurelio’s Pizza Crown Point becomes a Shop Local Network Mission Partner

Aurelio’s Pizza, located at 1900 N. Main St in Crown Point, is the perfect place to go for great customer service and even better food.

Crown Point, IN, August 30, 2018 – Aurelio’s Pizza, located at 1900 N. Main St in Crown Point, is the perfect place to go for great customer service and even better food. Nick Bello, president of The Shop Local Network stated, “I consider myself a pizza expert and Aurelio’s is one of the best. You can tell they use only the best ingredients.”

On August 20, 1959, the first Aurelio’s Pizza opened its doors at 2041 Ridge Rd in Homewood, Illinois. This small storefront had just enough room for about 4 tables and a small kitchen with one pizza oven. In 1959, Pizza was a relatively new concept. Joe would sell 6 or 7 pizzas a day, but Joe’s home cooked Italian beef sandwiches kept him going. Joe made some changes to the dough and sauce recipe and began using fresh, homemade Italian sausage rather than pre-cooking it. These changes made quite a difference and pizza sales began to grow. Joe persevered by working 7 days a week, as cook, waiter and delivery guy, while building his reputation and customer loyalty day by day, one customer at a time.

Aurelio’s Pizza in Crown Point offers a wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas, and desserts. They also have a mobile app to be able to win rewards.

“This place makes incredible pizzas, especially their thin crust. Whatever cheese blend they’re using is amazing. And they aren’t shy with the toppings; they pile them on. We had their chicken wings to start, which had great flavor and some good spicy heat. We had four hungry people in our party and ordered way too much food. The thin crust fiesta size pizza is their largest and can easily feed 4-6 people. Their medium thin crust can feed 3-4. And their 10″ stuffed pizza can feed 2-3. Super fresh ingredients and the flavor and toppings were so well balanced. Their wait staff was so friendly and helpful. The facility and restrooms are clean. AND, bonus: they have a pinball machine in the back! Next time I’m in Crown Point, I will definitely stop by.” Jenna A. said.

So, are you ready to have a new favorite pizza place? Stop in to Aurelio’s today to see what they have for you! Give them a call or go to their website for more information.

Monterey Symphony’s 2018-2019 Season, ‘Sound Waves,’ Opens Oct. 20-21, with Schubert Symphony and New Commissioned Work

Monterey Symphony’s 2018-19 Season, “Sound Waves,” opens Oct. 20-21, at the Sunset Center in Carmel, and features a new work from composer Alex Berko commissioned in collaboration with the Big Sur Land Trust.

Monterey, CA, August 30, 2018 — Monterey Symphony’s 2018-19 Season, “Sound Waves,” opens Oct. 20-21, at the Sunset Center in Carmel, and features a new work from composer Alex Berko commissioned in collaboration with the Big Sur Land Trust.

The Symphony’s 73rd season opens at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, with Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 9, “The Great,” and Berko’s “Among Waves.” The concert will also be performed at 3 p.m. Sunday Oct. 21, at Sunset Center.

Berko, an exceptional student at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, spent a week in residence at the Glen Deven Ranch in Big Sur, drawing inspiration from the deep beauty of the landscape for inclusion in his new orchestral work. Glen Deven Ranch played a role in the first commission with the Big Sur Land Trust, resulting in “Big Sur, the Night Sun” by esteemed composer John Wineglass.

During the season, one hour prior to every performance there will be pre-concert lectures presented by musicologist Dr. Todd Samra.

The season continues Nov. 17-18, and ends May 18-19, 2019, with all concerts at the Sunset Center in Carmel. All concerts will be conducted by Symphony Music Director Max Bragado-Darman, except for concert number four, March 16-17, 2019, which will be guest conducted by Jung-Ho Pak. All concerts in the season will be held at 8 p.m. Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays at Sunset Center.

In addition, throughout each concert season, special events are held to benefit the nonprofit Monterey Symphony orchestra, and to provide educational and social opportunities for Symphony patrons. This season features a music course and a composer discussion, opening night party, luncheons with the Friends of the Monterey Symphony, Supper Clubs at the best local restaurants, and Gala by the Bay at the Monterey Bay Aquarium on May 3, 2019.

The season’s second concert will be held Nov. 17-18, with Carol Wincenc, professor of flute at Juilliard, who joins the orchestra for Carl Nielsen’s “Flute Concerto,” composed in 1926 for the legendary flautist M. Holger-Gilbert Jespersen. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, Op. 36 — often referred to as the “Fate” symphony because of the dark undertones — headlines the second concert of the season. Written in the shadow of Beethoven’s masterful Symphony No. 5, Tchaikovsky echoes the great master’s melancholy in this hallmark orchestral work.

This concert will also feature members of the Youth Music Monterey County Honors Orchestra playing side-by-side on Hector Berlioz’s Overture, Le corsaire, Op. 21, which, like the Tchaikovsky symphony, was also composed during a period of great despair.

The season “Sound Waves” comes alive in the third concert Feb. 16-17, 2019, with four works all dedicated to the sea. Claude Debussy, the father of Impressionism in music, composed “La Mer” in the mold of a symphony, but eschewed the traditional title for one more authentic to the sound of the music. French composer Jacques Ibert, the director of French opera in Rome, wrote “Escales” — a suite for orchestra that perfectly resembles postcards from three Mediterranean ports — after finding his obsession with the sea.

This concert features “Four Sea Interludes” from Peter Grimes, Op. 33a, by Benjamin Britten, England’s finest modern opera composer: composed in 1945, Grimes launched his career in the new post-war era. The gorgeous tone-poem “Oceanides, Op. 73,” by Jean Sibelius was inspired by the sea-nymphs referenced in Greek mythology: haunting and tempting.

Jung-Ho Pak guest conducts the fourth concert of the season March 16-17, 2019, with works by Tan Dun, Shostakovich, and Alan Hovhaness. Revolutionary experimental composer Tan Dun transposes the sounds of water — at play and at work — into the textures of his music, most literally in “Water Concerto” for water percussion and orchestra.

The symphonic poem “And God Created Great Whales” by Alan Hovhaness — commissioned in 1970 by the New York Philharmonic — features prerecorded humpback whale vocalizations, and was credited with early efforts to save whales from extinction. To celebrate the Soviet victory over Germany, Dmitri Shostakovich was commissioned to write Symphony No. 9, which, Leonard Bernstein described as a series of musical jokes (including purposeful mistakes)…completing a boisterous, 99.99% organic, and exciting concert program.

Three Romantic German composers are featured on the fifth concert of the season, April 13-14, 2019, opening with Mendelssohn’s concert overture “Calm Seas and Prosperous Voyage, Op. 27,” inspired by Beethoven’s work of the same name; along with fellow Jewish composer Max Bruch’s popular Violin Concerto No. 1, Op. 26, featuring solo artist Elmar Oliveira returning to play with the Monterey Symphony.

Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 4, Op. 120, originally his unpublished second symphony, underwent massive revisions in 1851 — five years before his death — proving his mastery over orchestration and increased expression in the final edition of this emotional Romantic symphony.

The sixth and final concert of the season, “Sound Waves,” May 18-19, 2019, will conclude in grand fashion with music by Wagner, Chopin, and Beethoven! Richard Wagner composed many brilliant overtures throughout his many German operas, including the overture from “The Flying Dutchman,” featured as the opening work in the season finale. Chopin’s stunning Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 21, follows, with magnificent Cuban pianist Marcos Madrigal performing the popular work, composed before Chopin completed his formal education at age 20.

The season ends with one of the greatest compositions for the concert hall of all time: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, Op, 67. A favorite among experienced and new audiences, musicians and conductors, the fifth endeavor in the symphony genre struck a chord for Beethoven, as he discovered his true forte – it is the “Stairway to Heaven” of classical music.

The lineup of special events kicks off with a course that starts Sept. 18 (and the following four Tuesdays), with “The Music of Franz Schubert” with Dr. Todd Samra, at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at CSU Monterey Bay in Ryan Ranch, Monterey. The course examines the music of Austrian composer Franz Schubert (1797-1828), and his process of composition.

The Shop Local Network welcomes Ciao Bella as a new Mission Partner

Ciao Bella located at 1514 US Highway 41 in Schererville, Indiana offers true authentic Italian cuisine made with love and passion in a warm, refined atmosphere.

Schererville, Indiana, August 29, 2018 – Ciao Bella located at 1514 US Highway 41 in Schererville, Indiana offers true authentic Italian cuisine made with love and passion in a warm, refined atmosphere. Nick Bello, president of The Shop Local Network stated, “ You feel like you are stepping into a restaurant in Italy. From the food to the wine, they have certainly done it right!”

Giuseppe “Joe” Scalzo, was born in Calabria, Italy, and worked in multiple Tuscan trattorias before emigrating to the United States 15 years ago, when he was 27 years old. Joe was raised in southern Italy, where he studied mechanical engineering. He fell in love with cooking while in Florence, spending time working at a small, intimate restaurant in the evening. He was offered the chance to take over the restaurant, but already had plans to come to the United States.

When he arrived to study international business at Loyola University in Chicago, he soon discovered that his desire to operate a restaurant had not gone away. Having a place where people can share love and friendship over good food that’s prepared with experience and skill is something beautiful. Joe has owned two Chicago restaurants, Piazza Bella (since sold) and Via Carducci (now owned by his brother John) before joining Rosebud Restaurants.

Ciao Bella(which translates to “hello, beautiful”) is a reminder that Italian food can be much more than lasagna, ravioli and spaghetti. “The Mediterranean diet is one of the best in the world”. “Just good, authentic food made with love and passion. Pair with a beautiful wine and it’s wonderful,” stated Joe.

Ciao Bella also offers a great lunch menu with specials daily. When you stop in, make sure you join their loyalty rewards program to earn future rewards. Also take advantage of their Shop Local keytag discount to save even more!

LaPorte, Indiana, August 27, 2018 – Curves, located at 412 Perry Street in Laporte, IN, is a great place to go for the Curves workout. Nick Bello, president of The Shop Local Network stated, “Here is a place where the staff really cares. It is not just about joining a gym, it is about joining a support system!”

The Curves workout which is specifically designed for women is convenient, combining strength training and cardio activity plus stretching – all in just 30 minutes – to strengthen your whole body.By getting stronger and increasing your flexibility, you are setting the stage for a healthier, more active future so you can live the life you want.

Curves is a 30 minute, total body workout on our strength training machines. Walk in and jump on any machine in the circuit! In your 30 minute workout, you’ll work every major muscle group with strength training, cardio and stretching. Curves is a supportive environment where you can gain strength, balance and flexibility with the guidance of your coach.

Over the years, Curves changed women’s fitness by delivering studio fitness without the premium price. While the workouts are only 30 minutes, you feel the benefits long after. Unlike traditional gyms, a Curves membership gives you the tools and support you need to reach your goals and set the stage for a healthier, more active future.

The first Curves was opened in 1992 as a fitness and weight-loss facility designed especially for women. In a relatively short amount of time, Curves grew to become the largest fitness franchise in the world, helping women around the globe lead healthier lives. There are two main reasons for Curves’ success. First, our practical and effective approach to women’s diet and fitness that works with the modern woman’s busy schedule. And second, a supportive center environment. We invite women of all shapes, sizes and ages to lose weight, become stronger and reach their health goals at Curves. We are committed to providing women with the tools that will empower them to live more fulfilling lives.

“I really enjoy the environment at Curves. It’s a great place to get a 30 minute workout. It will improve your day and life.” Kristy S. said.
