FRA lends support to Brazilian Forestry Plantation Claims

Forestry Research Associates (FRA) has announced its support for a statement from Timberinvestments.co, claiming that plantation projects in Brazil can help to reduce deforestation in the developing country.

Bainbridge Island, WA, November 23, 2011 – Forestry Research Associates (FRA) has announced its support for a statement from Timberinvestments.co, claiming that plantation projects in Brazil can help to reduce deforestation in the developing country.

FRA is a research and analysis consultancy that specializes in forestry investments as an alternative asset class. Its analysis partner, Peter Collins, claims that Timberinvestments.co is correct in claiming that plantations, such as those run by forestry investment firm Greenwood Management in Brazil, can contribute to the effort to reduce deforestation.

Timberinvestments.co claims that European investors have become increasingly keen on timber investments as an option instead of investing in the stock markets. Forestry has typically seen far better returns than the equity markets over the past decide and at the same time, the rate of deforestation in Brazil has fallen significantly.

FRA claims that the forestry plantations are helping to provide alternative timber that is produced through felling native trees. The consultancy also adds that the Brazilian government has been taking more and more measures to try to monitor the destruction of the rainforest by using satellite technology, for example.

FRA welcomed the move from Timberinvestments.co to try to talk about the destruction that is still going on, however, and the fact that attracting investments in forestry projects taking place in the region can help to increase the supply of non-native trees for use in the production of charcoal, for example.

Plantation projects can also help to promote sustainable forestry management practices, which will ensure that the forestry industry can continue to exist for generation to come, while preserving the native rainforests.

Peter Collins of the FRA explained, “Forestry is a strong asset class for those who want to diversify their portfolios at the moment.”

He added, “In addition, investing in sustainable projects in Brazil can help to protect the natural forests from illegal logging.”

U.S. Spanish Children’s Book Sales Climb

Amazon Spain launch and U.S. book sales indicate next big market. November is National Picture Book Month.

Midvale, UT, November 22, 2011 – Publishing is evolving and crossing borders like never before, as is children’s literature. Amazon.com’s recent entry into Spain and the explosion of Spanish-language ebook platforms are indicators of the next big publishing market.

Sales of Spanish language books in the United States demonstrate significant demand–including for children’s literature in Spanish. Bilingual author Karl Beckstrand has seen an increase in demand for his Spanish-language and bilingual picture books and e-books.

This year Beckstrand has had three titles on Amazon’s “Hot New Releases” in Spanish list. His Spanish titles outsell the English versions, though most of his titles come with an English/Spanish pronunciation guide. Positive national reviews by the Horn Book blog and ForeWord Reviews don’t hurt either.

During November, National Picture Book Month, Beckstrand expects record sales–not because of the added emphasis–but because, lately, every month is a record sales month. Customers are not all likely to be to Spanish-speakers. It may be that individuals, schools and families agree with Amazon: an additional language is a good idea.

Considering that native Spanish speakers are more common than native English speakers worldwide (the only other native language more common than Spanish is Mandarin, according to Time and Wikipedia), Amazon’s lead should be followed. Beckstrand’s picture books may be a good start.

AAA Reports On Popularity Of US-based REITs

American investors are pouring their cash into real estate investment trusts (REITs), according to Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA) and the Wall Street Journal newspaper.

Boston, MA, November 20, 2011 – American investors are pouring their cash into real estate investment trusts (REITs), according to Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA) and the Wall Street Journal newspaper.

AAA, which advocates investing in alternative asset classes that help to diversify portfolios in these uncertain economic times, has welcomed figures showing a rise in interest in real estate as a lucrative investment choice.

Some $6 billion has been invested so far this year in publically traded REITs. This represents an increase of 18 per cent on last year’s investment levels and a remarkable 400 per cent rise from 2009’s levels.

The US-based trusts typically buy up real estate such as shopping malls, apartment buildings and other commercial property. This type of property is seeing stronger recovery rates and the investors are keen to get involved while the market is beginning its upward trend.

AAA’s analysis partner Anthony Johnson, said, “We are always pleased to hear that investment in an area of alternatives is on the up and it seems that US-based REITs are proving irresistible to those looking to diversify their investment portfolios and protect against risk.”

AAA supports a number of different alternative asset classes, with focus on some of the more ethical choices around the world. Impact investing is becoming increasingly popular, while investing in green projects such as forestry plantations in developing countries – like Greenwood Management’s Brazilian forestry investment projects, also attract praise from AAA’s analysts.

Speaking about alternatives, Lois Carrier of Carrier & Maurice Investment Advisors, told the Wall Street Journal, “When almost everything else is down, you usually count on these wild cards to be up.”

For example, the FTSE Nareit All Equity REITs index for October recorded a return of over 7 per cent, compared with a much more subdued 1 per cent return recorded by Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index for the same period.
