Future of Wearable Technologies Next November 7 at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference

Building off of the momentum of past successful conferences, Golden Networking brings Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City (www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, November 7.

New York City, NY, USA (October 18, 2013) — The general public is eagerly anticipating the release of the wearable technologies. Although release dates are not set, supporters and critics alike want to learn more about these sought-after technologies. What steps are being taken to further improve the technology? How is the industry taking note of privacy and safety concerns? What are the expected changes that these technologies will bring upon? How far wearable technology can go?

These and more questions will be debated at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2013 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, to be held in New York City, on November 7.

Wearable technology is related to both the field of ubiquitous computing and the history and development of wearable computers. With ubiquitous computing, wearable technology shares the vision of interweaving technology into the everyday life, of making technology pervasive and interaction frictionless. Through the history and development of wearable computing, this vision has been both contrasted and affirmed. Affirmed through the multiple projects directed at either enhancing or extending functionality of clothing, and as contrast, most notably through Steve Mann’s concept of “sousveillance”.

The history of wearable technology is influenced by both of these responses to the vision of ubiquitous computing. We are now at an inflexion point in the advancement of the adoption of wearable computing. To expand the market for wearable technologies, it is necessary for developers and manufacturers to lead the world to show how the usage of these technologies can revolutionize every aspect of the human experience.

Topics that Wearable Computing Conference 2013 will discuss include:

– Key Features of Wearable Technologies
– A New World for Application Developers
– How Wearable Technologies Will Transform the Human Experience
– Wearable Computing and its Impact on the Technology Marketplace
– The Future of Wearable Computing Today

Men NOT Allowed to Say “NO” on Sadie Hawkins Day

Sadie Hawkins Day allows single women to ask for what they want… and get it!

San Rafael, CA, October 18, 2013 — Contact: Tom Andrews, 415/507-9962

Once a year single women can ask for whatever they want…and get it. At this year’s annual Sadie Hawkins Day Dance in the San Francisco Bay Area, Friday, November 15, 2013, 8pm-Midnight, men are not allowed to say no if a woman asks them to dance. The party is at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 101 McInnis Pkwy, San Rafael CA. Contrary to popular belief, Sadie Hawkins Day does NOT occur on Leap Day. It happens every November 15.

“Single women have lots of complaints about single men,” says Rich Gosse, Chairman of The Society of Single Professionals, the world’s largest non-profit singles organization. “One of the biggest is men who turn them down when asked to dance. How rude! At our Sadie Hawkins Day Dance, men will NOT have that option. Sadie Hawkins Day is a wonderful opportunity for single women to be assertive and get what they want in life, rather than follow the disastrous strategy of playing hard to get.”

Rich Gosse, author of eight books on dating, is available to the news media to discuss Sadie Hawkins Day in the context of bachelorettes fulfilling their romantic needs, by calling 415/479-3800.

Sadie Hawkins Day, an American folk event, made its debut in Al Capp’s Li’l Abner strip on November 15, 1937. Sadie Hawkins was “the homeliest gal in the hills” who grew tired of waiting for the fellows to come a courtin’. Her father, Hekzebiah Hawkins, a prominent resident of Dogpatch, was even more worried about Sadie living at home for the rest of his life, so he decreed the first annual Sadie Hawkins Day, a foot race in which the unmarried gals pursued the town’s bachelors, with matrimony the consequence. By the late 1930s the event had swept the nation and had a life of its own. Life magazine reported over 200 colleges holding Sadie Hawkins Day events in 1939, only two years after its inception. It became a woman-empowering rite at high schools and college campuses, long before the modern feminist movement gained prominence.

Adults of all ages are welcome. $10 at the door includes dancing to current hits and oldies. Dressy nightclub attire is recommended. Anyone who wishes more information about this and many more singles parties may visit http://www.ThePartyHotline.com or call 415/507-9962.

Motorists Given Parking Violation Warnings Less Likely To Reoffend

FlashPark, a UK-based parking enforcement company has carried out a survey that shows motorists issued with parking charge notices, but given the chance to apologise, are much less likely to reoffend.

London, UK (October 18, 2013) — FlashPark, a UK-based parking enforcement company has carried out a survey that shows motorists issued with parking charge notices, but given the chance to apologise, are much less likely to reoffend.

A sample of 375 motorists who were issued parking charge notices by parking enforcement company FlashPark.co.uk had been asked for an undertaking not to reoffend at the same location in return for having the charge notice quashed.

The survey covered a six-month period up to 31st July 2013 and all of the motorists in the sample had parked illegally on private land and had subsequently appealed against their notices on various grounds.

Only 3 per cent of the sample reoffended in the two months following the apology, significantly lower than the reoffending level for those illegal parkers who were not given the chance to say sorry.

According to Costas Constantino of FlashPark, “this shows that the majority of the motoring public are basically honest citizens and are good for their word.

“We are looking at the possibility of sending out warnings instead of parking charge notices for first offences. Our business model still works as our services are paid for by the landowner,” he said.

Mr Constantino is the inventor of the world’s first ‘talking parking ticket’, a 30-second friendly audio warning that can be recorded by the issuer at the scene of the parking misdemeanour.

FlashPark is the first parking control company in the UK that issues warnings without charge notices – at a time when parking charges are at a record high cost.

Key Features of Google Glass and Apple iWatch at Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City

Building off of the momentum of past successful conferences, Golden Networking brings Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City (www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, November 7.

New York City, NY, USA (October 17, 2013) — According to Jennifer Booton at FOX Business, the fast developing high-tech wearable products like Google Glass provoke people’s interesting and purchasing desire. More and more large-scale companies from Apple to Samsung, pour invest in wearable technology. Analysts predict a rally in the new mobile device category is around the corner as demand grows.

Several companies have expressed interest in designing wearable technology including Google, which has thousands of people testing its Google Glass smart headwear through its Google Explorer program. Meanwhile, Dell, Samsung and Acer, all of these electronics giants claim about developing wearable gadgets to deal with declining sales of their traditional products. Most companies are still in development and stuck in testing period as exorbitant amounts of money on this next-generation technology.

On the other hand, there is no doubt that the wearable technology is a robust flexible display market, which IHS predicts will reach nearly 800 million unit shipments by 2020 from just 3.2 million in this year. That is why a rising number of companies get involved in it in spite of excessive expense.

The introduction of wearable technologies allows users to access technology hands free. There will no longer be the need to carry around bulky devices. Information can be accessed at your command and pictures or videos can be taken with the wink of an eye. What are the key features of this technology? How are these functions different from the traditional computer and phone programs? How can wearable technologies be integrated with already established technologies?

The technology of the future is here, with the production of a new generation of technologies that will allow users to interact with computing devices that are worn by the bearer under, with or on top of clothing. The introduction of smart watches and glasses bring upon economic, social and personal effects that will revolutionize the human experience. These technologies will be debated at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2013 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, to be held in New York City, on November 7, forum featuring insightful discussions:

Why Apple Hires Burberry’s Angela Ahrendts at Golden Networking’s Wearable Technologies Conference

Building off of the momentum of past successful conferences, Golden Networking brings Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City (www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, November 7.

New York City, NY, USA (October 17, 2013) — “I am thrilled that Angela will be joining our team,” Apple CEO’s Tim Cook said in a statement announcing the appointment of Burberry’s CEO, Angela Ahrendts, as the new Head of Retail. “She shares our values and our focus on innovation, and she places the same strong emphasis as we do on the customer experience. She has shown herself to be an extraordinary leader throughout her career and has a proven track record.”

Why would Apple make such a move? Ahrendts was born and raised in a small town, New Palestine, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis. She acquired her Merchandising and Marketing degree from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, from where she also received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree in 2010. She joined Burberry in January 2006, and took up the position of CEO on July 1, 2006. Prior to that, Ahrendts was Executive Vice President at Liz Claiborne Inc., where she joined the executive team in 1998. During her tenure, she oversaw the Contemporary, Casual, Bridge and Menswear businesses, comprising more than twenty brands and representing 40% of total company revenues. She previously spent six years as President of Donna Karan International.

According to Tim Beyers, Apple wasn’t content to let Google be the top dog in wearable computing. He can’t think of another good reason Apple would hire Ahrendts away from Burberry, one of its best partners in the fashion world. Officially, she’ll take a newly created senior vice president position reporting to Apple CEO Tim Cook. A press release describes the job as overseeing the “strategic direction, expansion, and operation” of Apple’s retail stores — both online and offline.

This and other questions will be debated at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2013 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, to be held in New York City, on November 7.

Founder of Misfit Wearables, Sonny Vu, to Speak at Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City

Building off of the momentum of past successful conferences, Golden Networking brings Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City (www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, November 7.

New York City, NY, USA (October 16, 2013) — Sonny Vu, founder of Misfit Wearables, will participate at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2013 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, to be held in New York City, on November 7.

Misfit Wearables are the makers of highly wearable computing products, including the award-winning Shine, an elegant activity monitor. In an interview with medGadget, Mr. Vu elaborates: “The Shine is the ultimate in simplicity, from the look of it to what it does, which is measuring your physical activity goals. That’s really it. The other thing is that I think we’re the most wearable. You can wear it anywhere. We’ve had people asking if they can wear it as a necklace, watch, even a power ring! I love the other products, but you can only wear it in a few places and with certain dress levels (casual, active) comfortably. You can wear the Shine for a run, just as comfortably as to the prom. When we surveyed people, we had a number of people say they would wear it even if it didn’t measure anything at all. At first, you think, ‘really?’ But I feel like that’s our dream, making something people would want to wear anywhere.”

Mr. Vu is also the founder of AgaMatrix, makers of the world’s first iPhone-connected hardware medical device (Red Dot & GOOD Design Awards). AgaMatrix, which began as a two-person start-up, now ships 15+ FDA-cleared medical device products, 1B+ biosensors, 3M+ glucose meters for diabetics.

Mr. Vu worked at Microsoft Research on machine learning / linguistic technologies and studied math (BS) at UIUC and linguistics (PhD) under Noam Chomsky at MIT. “I eventually left the program again to start up AgaMatrix with Sridhar Iyengar (AgaMatrix’s current CTO), who I knew of in high school and roomed with in college. It was awesome that we started the company from nothing to what’s now a multi-million dollar company whose products are sold at the Apple Store. I got to know John Sculley (Misfit’s co-founder) a couple years ago as a friend and mentor, and over time we decided to start a company together.”

Mr. Vu understands a number of interesting languages, is a patron of good product design, and believes an era of wearable computing is coming soon where UX design will be geared towards glance-able displays as well as non-visual modalities. Where does he see the future of wearable sensors/computers heading?

“It’s going to be a big deal. We had the PC revolution in the 80’s, the Internet in the 90’s, mobile in the early 2000’s until now, and now we are in the post-PC era of cloud computing and tablets. Where else is computing going to go? I think it might go on our bodies. Is the next era of computation and sensing going to be from 2012-2020? I think it is. People are finding it to be more socially acceptable to wear technology, and companies are designing products that are more attractive and socially acceptable to wear. We’re trying to humanize the wearable technology space; you can start by asking ‘what kind of sensors do you have that we can strap on you?’, but we first ask ‘what do you like to wear?’, and we can place a sensor in it. We also start by considering what people would wear, regardless of whether or not it has a sensor in it, like jeans or your underwear or socks. But, I actually think we won’t have the technology for the next 5-10 years to make sensor-embedded clothing that is cheap, can be washed, doesn’t have to be charged, and doesn’t have to fit tight on your body like a compression shirt.”
