New NanoMarkets Report Says Smart Coatings Market to Reach $3.0 billion by 2018

The worldwide smart coatings market will grow from $363 million in 2013 to almost $3.0 billion in 2018, according to a new report from industry analysis firm NanoMarkets.

Glen Allen, Virginia (November 4, 2013) — The worldwide smart coatings market will grow from $363 million in 2013 to almost $3.0 billion in 2018, according to a new report from industry analysis firm NanoMarkets. The report, “Worldwide Smart Coatings Markets, 2013-2020,” notes that because of their ability to quickly respond to external stimuli or resist extreme environments, smart coatings are finding new applications in several industry sectors including construction, energy, automotive, medical, consumer electronic goods and the military.

NanoMarkets believes that smart coatings will do especially well in markets – such as the military — where quality and performance, rather than price, shape purchasing decisions. Consumer markets where the customer is willing to pay a premium for functionality such as scratch resistance or enhanced energy efficiency will also be important.

Additional details about the report are available at: http://nanomarkets.net/market_reports/report/worldwide_smart_coatings_markets_2013_2020.

About the Report:

This new NanoMarkets report provides an in depth analysis of the demand for smart coatings including self-cleaning coatings, anti-corrosion coatings, self-healing coatings, self-dimming coatings, and a range of biomedical smart coatings. It examines the latest products, strategies and technical developments and the hurdles that these materials must overcome to achieve market acceptance.

The report contains granular forecasts of smart coatings shipments in volume and value terms, with breakouts by application and type of material. The report discusses the activities in the smart coating space of some of the leading specialty chemical firms and leading OEMs including 3M, Bayer, Corning, Dassault, Dow, DSM, DuPont, Eastman Chemical, Fuji Heavy Industries, Honda, Nippon Steel, Nissan, NTT, Pilkington, PPG, Saint-Gobain, Sherwin-Williams, Sumitomo and Toyota. In addition, the report covers the activities of numerous innovative smaller firms and startups.

From the report:

Self-cleaning coatings are the largest segment of the smart coatings market; reaching $1.4 billion in 2018. Self-cleaning glass coatings are already in widespread use, but NanoMarkets believes there will be even more opportunities in this space because there is considerable room for improvement in the performance of existing products; additional functionality (anti-fog and anti-glare) can also be added. The fastest growing part of the self-cleaning coatings segment is for non-glass substrates such as aluminum siding, tile and textiles.

Smart anti-corrosion coatings are expected to reach $449 million by 2018, picking up revenues in extreme conditions where conventional paints do not add enough protection. NanoMarkets believes that an important future direction for this part of the smart coatings market will be multipurpose anti-corrosion coatings that address oxidation, wear and other factors. Up to now such multipurpose coatings have been available in limited quantities from small suppliers, but NanoMarkets expects these to become more widely available from the major giant specialty chemical companies.

NanoMarkets expects a dramatic shift in the markets for smart coatings in the next few years. Currently, almost 70 percent of the revenues for smart coatings come from the construction and automotive industry sectors. By 2020, NanoMarkets expects this number to have fallen to 37 percent and the energy sector emerging to account for 25 percent of all smart coatings sales. Much of this growth, NanoMarkets believes will come from sales of self-cleaning coatings for solar panels.

About NanoMarkets:

NanoMarkets tracks and analyzes emerging markets in medicine, energy, electronics and other area created by developments in advanced materials. The firm is a recognized leader in industry analysis and forecasts in the specialty chemicals industry and has been covering the smart coatings business since 2011.

Actyl Group to Seek Ambitious Workers in Zagreb, Croatia

Company recruits individuals for trade and hospitality jobs in western Canada.

Edmonton, Alberta (November 4, 2013) — Actyl, a leading Canadian workforce solutions firm, will make a special recruiting trip to Zagreb, Croatia to interview candidates to fill more than 400 jobs in the hospitality industry throughout Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.

The trip, which will take place in mid-November, aims to bring temporary foreign workers (TFOs) into Canada to fill the labor gap that currently exists, particularly in the western part of the country.

“We are very pleased to embark on this trip to Croatia and meet with hard-working and talented candidates who are interested in both a job and a new adventure,” said Dr. Linda West, president of Actyl. “While most of the world has experienced slow economic growth over the past several years, western Canada has been booming thanks largely to oil and gas exploration. As a result, there is a labor shortage in a number of industries, including hospitality. We aim to help fill the gap by finding exceptional temporary foreign workers from Zagreb this month.”

Actyl works with more than 75 employers in Canada and seeks candidates who have experience working in restaurants and the trades. The firm has years of experience finding and recruiting TFOs, which are critical for businesses that need to fill workforce gaps. Individuals who accept jobs in Canada find them to be highly fulfilling, while the chance to travel and live abroad can be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia are somewhat unique in today’s global marketplace, as they represent some of the few places where rapid job growth is evident. Paired with the growing economy is the fact that the region has an aging population, leaving more jobs open than can be filled by its current labor force.

“In many ways, western Canada is still an open frontier, with a wide range of possibilities for entrepreneurial and industrious individuals,” said West. “In many cases, these jobs lead to other great opportunities, so this is a chance you won’t want to pass up. We are looking forward to visiting Croatia and meeting potential candidates from many different backgrounds.”

Actyl officials will be available at the Four Points by Sheraton Panorama Zagreb from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 13-18, and will offer free information sessions and interviews. To learn more about this opportunity and to apply for open positions, visit http://www.actyl.com/jobs.

New York City Becoming Wearable Technologies Capital on November 7 @WearableCompCon

Building off of the momentum of past successful conferences, Golden Networking brings Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City (www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, November 7.

New York City, NY, USA (November 3, 2013) — There are thousands of reasons why New York is the capital of the world. One more is coming this November 7. New York City will become the wearable technologies capital as it gets ready to host Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2013 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”.

The future is here at Wearable Computing Conference 2013 with the production of a new generation of technologies such as Google Glass, Apple “iWatch” and Samsung Galaxy Gear, among others, that will allow users to interact with computing devices that are worn by the bearer under, with or on top of clothing. The introduction of smart watches and glasses bring upon economic, social and personal effects that will revolutionize the human experience.

The use of technology has greatly expanded out of the workplace into users’ daily lives. Now the integration of human experience and wearable computing will allow users to enhance each experience. This new wave of technologies will ignite an explosion of innovation which will be the key to advancement for mankind.

Now we are at an inflexion point in the advancement of the adoption of wearable computing. To expand the market for wearable technologies, it is necessary for developers and manufacturers to lead the world to show how the usage of these technologies can revolutionize every aspect of the human experience.

Credit Suisse semiconductor analysts John Pitzer, Kulbinder Garcha, Christian Buss, and Stephen Ju offered six months ago an overview note on what they think is “the next big thing,” the rise of sophisticated wearable technology, such as smart watches, and other accessories.

The authors contended that while “wearables,” as they call them, are “not new,” nevertheless, they are “at an inflection point in market adoption” because there is a growing installed base of smartphones, cost and performance improvements are coming in components, there is more mature software to run them, and there are new business models for them.

The wearables market is a lot bigger than investors realize, they contended, at perhaps $3 billion to $5 billion today, rising to perhaps $30 billion to $50 billion over the next three to five years.

What Goldman Sachs, HTC, Citi, Sony and Metlife, Will Discover on November 7 @WearableCompCon

Building off of the momentum of past successful conferences, Golden Networking brings Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City (www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, November 7.

New York City, NY, USA (November 3, 2013) — Goldman Sachs, HTC, Citi, Sony and Metlife are just a few of the hundreds of companies that will be represented at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2013 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”.

Indeed, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, big and medium-sized companies are putting wearables to work. Companies are figuring out how to use those kinds of gadgets to improve their business. They’re giving wearables to employees and customers to gather subtle data about how they move and act-and then use that information to help them do their jobs better or improve their buying experience.

For businesses, these gadgets represent a tremendous opportunity, but there is also a big risk involved. People will naturally resist real-world intrusions into their privacy, so businesses need to be very careful about asking employees and customers to strap gadgets on their heads, chests and wrists.

Early experiments with these gadgets have yielded a couple of valuable lessons. If companies push for wearable gadgets to pursue heavy-handed objectives, like ratcheting up efficiency or productivity, the move will invariably backfire and hurt morale. Instead, companies need to link up their goals with individual goals-such as using wearables to make an employee’s job safer or more interesting, or giving customers a better deal.

To get a sense of what this approach looks like, consider the Hitachi Business Microscope-a gadget about the size of a company ID badge that workers wear on a lanyard around their neck.

The device is packed with sensors that monitor things like how workers move and speak, as well as environmental factors like light and temperature. So, it can track where workers travel in an office, and recognize whom they’re talking to by communicating with other people’s badges. It can also measure how well they’re talking to them-by recording things like how often they make hand gestures and nod, and the energy level in their voice.

Workers can see how their communication habits and energy levels change depending on whom they’re meeting or where-a one-hour brainstorming session with five colleagues where they energetically contributed, compared with the session where they just sat there.

The gadget’s LCD screen displays real-time stats for personal feedback and benchmarking, and for implementing larger strategies to improve collaboration. According to Hitachi, one firm introduced the HBM after combining two product-design groups. Several weeks after the merger, the HBM showed little interaction between the two groups. The new manager, who came from one of the old groups, discovered that he was part of the problem, since data showed he was having little or no interaction with many new reports.

So, the new head intentionally made connections with direct reports who weren’t previously part of his group. Others struck up new working relationships after they discovered there were people in the other group they could be collaborating with but weren’t.

The power of “4D Sound” in Able Planet ViviTouch headphones with CEO Dirk Schapeler @WearableCompCon

Building off of the momentum of past successful conferences, Golden Networking brings Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City (www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, November 7.

New York City, NY, USA (November 2, 2013) — Dirk Schapeler, Chief Executive Officer of ViviTouch, will be speaker at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2013 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, to be held in New York City, on November 7.

Pioneered by Artificial Muscle, Inc. (AMI), a Bayer MaterialScience company, ViviTouch manufactures haptic gadgets for gaming, mobile devices, and headphones. Its actuators produce a one-of- a-kind cinematic sensation that bridges the senses of seeing, hearing and feeling. AMI is looking to capitalize on the growing market in haptic technology and meet consumer needs. Therefore ViviTouch becomes AMI’s main product in this market. What they didn’t realize at the time was how important their creation would be beyond the entertainment industry.

Mr. Schapeler joined ViviTouch as the CEO in April 2010. Prior to ViviTouch, Schapeler built up the Electro Active Polymers team at Bayer MaterialScience in Germany and worked in the New Business group where he scouted out markets and applications for Electro Active Polymers, as well as new materials for automotive and consumer electronics. Schapeler had also held program management and engineering positions at large automotive suppliers, successfully introducing innovative products to the market place. His experience and expertise in consumer electronics, business management and material technology make him an ideal speaker for this upcoming wearable conference.

How exactly are Able Planet and ViviTouch merging together to enact 4D sound? Able Planet has a technology called Sound Fit. You slide a personal listening device into your ear, press a button, and it expands and locks into the ear canal. “Every time you halve the distance to the ear drum, you double the volume without turning the sound up. If you can seat or deliver sound that close to the ear drum, then the volume you’re providing to the patient…well, you’ll actually be able to activate the hearing in that patient.”

Able Planet’s technology allows an altered audio signal to activate the hearing organs in your ear. Sound travels through the ear drum, the middle ear, and is then processed by the inner ear. ViviTouch technology – which would be the coating around this device – expands to create a wide surface area of contact making it the most efficient bone conduction technology in the world.” “[Their] haptic technology, it circumvents the ear and goes right to the auditory system of the brain.”
