THIS IS ENGLAND DIRECTOR INSPIRES BRIGHTON FASHION DESIGNER

Saviour Projects Dead Man’s Shoes M65 jacket inspired by Shane Meadows

Brighton based fashion label Saviour Projects sell contemporary British clothing for men, and their chief designer Ian Maloney has created a ‘Dead Man’s Shoes’ M65 style jacket inspired by the work of cult classic East Midlands film director Shane Meadows.

The genius behind the ‘This is England ’86’ TV series, which followed the 2006 feature film This is England, Meadows is hugely popular with musicians and artists who grew up in the 1970s and 80s. Meadows stunning 2004 movie Dead Man’s Shoes starring Paddy Considine inspired the Saviour Projects team to create a jacket dedicated to the film.

Saviour’s Dead Man’s Shoes jacket can be purchased exclusively online via the http://saviour-online.com/ website for £85. The key to this jacket is functionality and durability. The garment is ultra light-weight with a P/U coating inside to keep the wearer dry, whilst the mesh lining aids breathability. It comes exclusively in black, a variation on the green version worn by Considine throughout the film.

The Saviour range also features Shadows of Salford t-shirts, Teardrop polo shirts inspired by Massive Attack and a cardigan inspired by The Jam’s 1977 album The Modern World.

If you’ve not seen Meadows brilliant Dead Mans Shoes all we’ll say is look out for the gas mask! In addition to his This is England film and TV series, his 2009 film Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee and 1999 picture A Room for Romeo Brass are also inspirational pieces of work.

Designer Ian Maloney explains the influence Meadows has had on his career and his Saviour Projects clothing range:

“For me growing up in a working class family in the UK in the 70’s and 80’s, Shane Meadows work had a social realism to me. This was no more apparent than in Dead Man’s Shoes in which Paddy Considine plays a fantastic role. His M56 jacket is a constant throughout the film and we felt it gave the film its soul. Coupled with the fact my uncle wore an M65 on the docks for years we thought this jacket would symbolise what Saviour was all about. Cheers Shane.”
