Parcel Delivery Firm Backs Findings Of Online Shopping Survey

Bolton-based online parcel delivery specialist Parcel2Go has given its backing to a recent internet shopping survey, which found that high delivery charges had led many consumers to abandon purchases.

A survey of 2,000 UK consumers, carried out by ecommerce specialist Econsultancy, found that nearly three-quarters of people (74 per cent) had abandoned an online purchase because they thought the charge for having their product delivered was too high.

Parcel2Go’s marketing director Richard Mercer says this is an issue that all online retailers should be aware of, and work towards addressing.

He said: “The fact that so many consumers have been in the position where they are all ready to go ahead with a purchase, and then have decided to abandon it at the last minute, should certainly start alarm bells ringing with firms. Excessive delivery charges are something that online shoppers are clearly not prepared to put up with.

“Of course the majority of online businesses are not able to go down the same route as the major players such as Amazon and Play.com and offer free parcel delivery as standard, but this survey highlights how important it is to get delivery charges right.”

Parcel2Go helps individuals and businesses arrange shipping of more than two million parcels to destinations in the UK and across the world every year. By partnering with some of the leading world courier companies such as FedEx, City Link and Parcelforce, Parcel2Go is able to offer its customers access to a huge range of competitively-priced domestic and international delivery services.

Mr Mercer added: “The internet has made it easier than ever for businesses to organise their parcel deliveries, and so by offering low-cost, reliable courier services with parcel tracking through their site, firms can increase the number of shoppers who complete purchases at the checkout.”

Don’t Miss Out On Opportunities Thrown-Up By The Tablet Explosion, Urges Parcel2Go

The number of people in the UK who own a tablet computer is rising rapidly, and online parcel delivery specialist Parcel2Go has called on companies of all sizes to make sure they don’t miss out on the wealth of opportunities available.

The market for tablets has been recognised as one that is significant and growing, with new product releases such as Apple’s third generation iPad helping to boost interest in the sector. Apple’s first iPad went on sale just over two years ago, and the company has sold around 55 million of the devices since then.

The latest version, which hit the shops earlier this month, had “a record weekend” according to the company and chief executive Tim Cook, who has said he expects tablets to outsell computers within three years.

Parcel2Go’s marketing director Richard Mercer said the fact that tablet computer ownership is spreading so rapidly, and that research has shown the average tablet owner spends more money shopping online other internet users, means businesses must act.

He said: “The convenience and ease of browsing and shopping using tablet computers has been recognised by consumers, and businesses must recognise the importance of having a strong online presence in order to take advantage of the situation.

“Parcel2Go helps a large number of companies to get their products out to customers with domestic and international parcel delivery firms. We know that customers have come to demand that businesses today not only offer an online shopping experience that is intuitive and enjoyable, but also one that allows them to have access to delivery services that are fast, reliable, inexpensive and will ensure that the product is in their hands in the shortest possible time.”

With the new tips we have issued parents can give themselves the best chance of enjoying a fun journey on which the kids will enjoy themselves too.”

Top Tips from Carrentals.co.uk

Plan Ahead – Writing down all the things you need to do and take makes life easier. Prepare well and make sure you have things like kids’ car seats, in car entertainment and first aid kits all ready to go and don’t leave them all until the last minute.

Timing is Everything – The time you set out can have a big impact on the enjoyment of your journey. Hitting the road very early in the morning means that the kids can sleep a couple of hours on the way and you can then get them changed into fresh clothes at a breakfast stop.

Pit-stops – Another fun way to keep the kids entertained is to plan your toilet and leg-stretching breaks at places of interest along your route.

Entertainment – The best way to keep kids quiet in the car. Portable DVD players, games consoles, mp3 players, e-book readers and other items are invaluable while traditional in-car games like I Spy and the Licence Plate Game can also be fun.

Snacks – Make sure you have stocked up on plenty of snacks and drinks ahead of hitting the road.

Think Outside of the Box – Another handy hint for keeping the kids busy is to kit them out with a disposable camera which they can use to make a picture scrapbook of the holiday.

Follow the route – For slightly older children, one fun way to stay entertained on a journey is to follow the route on a map with a highlighter pen.

UK Travellers Should Plan Ahead as Summer Shortages Hit Spain Car Hire – Carrentals.co.uk

UK travellers taking their summer holidays in Spain this year have been warned to plan ahead as news emerged of a rental car stock shortage in Spanish resorts this year.

The advice on planning ahead comes from leading car hire price comparator Carrentals.co.uk, which has advised that there could be up to 18,000 fewer rental cars available in Spain following the news that AurigaCrown has gone out of business. The website warns that the impact of the shortage will see increased hire prices and lower stocks throughout the busy summer months.

Gareth Robinson, Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk, says: “There is a real chance that people heading to Spain this summer will find a shortage of rental cars when they come to book. As such it is vital to book your rental car as soon as possible and as early as possible – since there is every chance the busiest Spanish resorts are going to have lowers stocks, no availability at all or very high prices this summer.”

“We can help Brits out by allowing them to compare car hire from up to 50 of the sector’s leading hire companies. Our service offers people the best chance possible of getting a good value deal from a smaller provider if the bigger providers are sold out this year.”

Hire deals for a week’s rental in Malaga are available from just £17* a day right now, with other deals to be had like £18* a day in Alicante, from £19* a day in Palma and from £21* a day in Ibiza.

Gareth goes on: “Rental suppliers who had their own customers’ reservations in place with AurigaCrown before they went bust have had to transfer those bookings to alternative providers. However, we do also advise any tourists who have got a deal in place already to rent a car in Spain this holiday season to check their paperwork and see who their supplier is. Then you can contact them to check the status and availability of your reservation.”

Parcel2Go Highlights The Importance Of Offering A Variety Of Shipping Options On eBay

One of the UK’s leading online parcel delivery services has stressed how important it is for UK businesses to make sure they are appealing to as wide a group of online consumers on eBay as possible.

Bolton-based Parcel2Go made the call following an interview given to the Daily Telegraph by the online auction and retail giant’s president of global marketplaces this week. Devin Wenig told the newspaper the UK had now become eBay’s fastest-growing marketplace, highlighting the fact that the British site receives visits from 17 million unique users every month, with sellers listing 40 million products.

Parcel2Go marketing director Richard Mercer said the news highlights just how important it is for businesses using eBay to ensure that they are doing everything possible to attract customers.

He said: “The popularity of eBay is something that all businesses should be looking to take advantage of. E-commerce is continuing to grow at a staggering pace and companies should be trying to maximise their exposure to potential customers.

“On eBay, one way of doing this is by offering a wide range of shipping options to customers as this will ensure that listings appeal to as wide a range of people as possible. For example, by offering international shipping options through international courier firms you are going to suddenly make your products available to a whole swathe of new customers.”

In his interview, Mr Wenig also highlighted the increasing role that mobile is playing, describing its growth as “exponential”. He said one item per second is now purchased through a mobile device.

“Smartphone usage is spreading rapidly and as more consumers get access to sites such as eBay while they’re on the move, sales will naturally increase. We want as many businesses as possible to benefit from this opportunity,” added Richard.

Telematics specialist Quartix reports record results for 2011

Tracking installations jump 125%: 1300 new fleet customers choose company’s flexible rental option

Quartix, one of the UK’s leading vehicle tracking specialists, reports record sales and new installations for 2011, with exceptionally strong growth forecast for 2012.

Andy Walters, the company’s managing director, said: “Telematics is entering its most exciting phase yet, as the technology becomes more widely deployed in the commercial market and as it gains rapid acceptance in the private insurance sector.

“Only those companies having complete design ownership and control, together with the cash flow to invest in its technology, will prosper in this dynamic environment. We are uniquely placed to take advantage of these opportunities, as we have both the technical and financial strength to take a leading position.”

Quartix operates a competitive direct rental model: customers signing up to a 12-month contract are offered free installation and only need to make initial payments of just £10 a month. Despite this revenue model, sales leapt by 46% to £7m in the year.

Quartix supplied just under 20,000 vehicle tracking systems in 2011. This represented an increase of 125% over 2010 and brought the total number of systems installed to more than 50,000.

No fewer than 1300 new fleet customers chose the company’s flexible rental option.

Five leading insurance companies use Quartix

In addition, substantial investments were made in research and development for the company’s insurance sector business and in the development of its French market, where it won 180 new fleet customers in its first full year of trading.

Despite allocating large sums for investment, pre-tax profit increased by 10% to £1.8m, while sales growth is currently expected to be at least 50% in 2012 as benefits from the investments materialise.

During the first half of this year, Quartix expects to launch new supply agreements with at least five leading insurance customers – in both the private and commercial sectors – providing a significant endorsement of its technology.

Mr Walters commented: “The requirements of the insurance and fleet sectors are converging as the need to monitor driving behaviour is driven by the cost of fuel and insurance. These costs have sky-rocketed in the past twelve to eighteen months, and our technology can save customers money on both counts.

“By reviewing harsh acceleration and braking, and controlling speeding, customers can reduce fuel usage and insurance premiums. We can monitor each driver’s performance using the accelerometer and firmware in our system without needing a separate connection into the vehicle CAN bus – this is a major competitive advantage for us.”

Lease-finance worries

The only cloud on the horizon for the industry, according to Mr Walters, is the resurgence of lease-finance contracts.

He said: “Under this model, customers are asked to commit to payments of £1000 or more per unit – over an extended period – to a bank or finance house, despite the fact that the tracking system has a value of £300 or less.

“The supplier gets all his payment on day one and is free to spend it as he sees fit, without necessarily providing for the proper support of the client over the term of the contract.

“If the supplier goes under – as happened extensively in the last recession – customers are still left with the payments to make, which comes as a major shock to them. Several significant suppliers are resorting to this type of contract again, and I can only believe this is driven by cash-flow issues again. This practice must stop before it gives the industry a bad name.”

Quartix strongly advises prospective customers to check the credit rating and financial health of its tracking system supplier before entering into any third-party finance arrangement.
