Fulham and EnOcean Collaborate to Add Self-Powered Easyfit Switches to Bluetooth LED Lighting Ecosystem

Joint Effort Results in Use of Bluetooth Mesh to Connect Self-powered Wireless BLE Switches with New Family of Wirelessly Controlled LED Drivers.

Hawthorne, CA, USA — Fulham Co., Inc., a leading supplier of lighting components and electronics for commercial and specialty applications, and EnOcean, a world leader in energy harvesting wireless technology, today announced a new initiative to add EnOcean’s self-powered, wireless Easyfit switches to Fulham’s new Bluetooth mesh lighting control ecosystem.

Fulham recently demonstrated the first of a new family of Bluetooth® mesh-enabled, wireless LED products at Lightfair 2018. The new wireless LED products include a 40W constant current driver with an intelligent wireless control dongle, and a Bluetooth bridge that can adapt any 0-10V LED luminaire to support Bluetooth mesh. Fulham’s new Bluetooth mesh LED products are SIG-qualified, support bidirectional communications, and support for third-party Bluetooth products.

Self-powered wireless wall switches for Bluetooth lighting control systems from EnOcean enable the development of maintenance-free, ready-to-use LED lighting applications. The self-powered Easyfit switches are already deployed in hundreds of thousands of projects worldwide, making LED lighting solutions more energy-efficient, more flexible, and lower in cost.

What makes Easyfit switches special is that they use the energy harvesting principle, in which energy is obtained from the surroundings to supply self-powered wireless sensor networks. The modules are based on miniaturized energy converters that convert motion, light or temperature differences into electrical energy. Therefore, wireless Easyfit switches are maintenance-free due to no batteries, freely positionable and allow flexible control as well as intuitive usage.

“This agreement with EnOcean demonstrates the power of vendor cooperation,” said Russ Sharer, Vice President of Global Marketing for Fulham. “Switches are an essential part of any lighting system and with this announcements, our customers now have self-powered, plug-and-play Bluetooth switches that can be installed anywhere, without additional wiring or batteries. As wireless lighting technology continues to evolve we will see more demand for flexible and maintenance-free products like EnOcean’s Easyfit switch.”

“Although today’s mobile electronic devices are incredible tools for controlling lighting, the switch is still the most natural and intuitive interface between lighting and users. Therefore, our self-powered Easyfit switches combined with Fulham’s Bluetooth products enables innovative wireless LED lighting solutions. These are easy to install, maintenance-free applications for modern lighting control based on our proven energy harvesting technology,” said Troy Davis, Sales Director, EnOcean Inc.

Artificial Intelligence Keynote Speaker Edgar Perez Hails UK Steps to Best US and China on Tech Race

Throughout history, there have been moments when the progress of technology has taken great steps forward, when a combination of the right tools, a capacity for innovation, and sparks of ingenuity lead to breakthroughs that transform how we live our lives. Executives in Kuala Lumpur, London, Mumbai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Mexico City and Hong Kong will acquire a comprehensive understanding of these technology trends and how they will impact business and society with Artificial Intelligence author and keynote speaker Edgar Perez.

New York City, NY, USA — How we produce and process information is critical to innovation, and our methods of recording and communicating information have themselves undergone great leaps. At the same time, tools for processing and making sense of large quantities of data have developed exponentially, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) representing the latest leap. In the same way that Gutenberg’s press ushered in a new era of growth, data-driven technologies such as AI will underpin our future prosperity.

The huge global opportunity AI presents is why the UK government identified AI and data as one of their Grand Challenges, in which the country could lead the world for years to come. The recently-announced Sector Deal is the first commitment from government and industry to realize this technology’s potential, outlining a package of up to £1 billion of support for the sector.

The Sector Deal sets out actions to promote the adoption and use of AI in the UK, and delivers on the recommendations of the independent AI review, ‘Growing the AI industry in the UK’, led by Professor Dame Wendy Hall and Jérôme Pesenti1 (currently at Facebook). Their review engaged widely with businesses, academia, investors and other stakeholders on ways to boost the UK’s emerging AI sector at home and across the world. It sets out proposals to improve the institutions that support AI in the United Kingdom, to build a skilled workforce, and to stimulate access to data, collectively the lifeblood of any AI business.

If there are critical areas in technology today that will greatly impact businesses for years to come, these are Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing. If there are examples of countries rising to the AI challenge, the UK effort tops the list of geographies announcing a nationwide proposal to lead the industry globally, says renowned AI instructor Edgar Perez (http://www.mredgarperez.com), presenter of programs in these subjects in Mumbai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, London, Mexico City and Hong Kong:

1. Deep Learning / Artificial Intelligence Workshop:

• Mumbai (July 19-20)
• Abu Dhabi (July 24-25)
• Hong Kong (August 15-16)
• Mexico City (August 22-23)

2. Quantum Computing Workshop:

• Abu Dhabi (July 26-27)
• London (August 6-7)
• Singapore (August 10-11)
• Hong Kong (August 17-18)
• Mexico City (August 24-25)

These programs go beyond technology, incorporating both short and long-term business impact; these courses allow participants to immediately capture the relevance and potential of these cutting-edge developments for their organizations.

The Deep Learning / Artificial Intelligence Workshop for Today’s Strategic Leaders focuses on practical applications of artificial intelligence for businesses using TensorFlow, the most widely-used deep learning framework from Google. Deep learning is already impacting every part of business today; in fact, PwC has warned that automation could replace 38% of all American jobs by 2030. Deep learning will continue to be a rich source of insights from ever-growing data sets being evaluated by powerful algorithms, enabling companies to make better decisions.

The Quantum Computing Workshop for Today’s Strategic Leaders will show CEOs how to learn to harness the opportunities unveiled by Quantum Computing, how to identify challenges and how to prepare their organizations for what the future holds. Powerful quantum computers will model all 19,000+ proteins in the human genome and simulate how new drugs can cure everything from the common cold to cancer.

Renovated Capitola Goodwill Store Will Host Grand Reopening on Aug. 22

After completion of a major renovation project, the Capitola Goodwill store will celebrate its grand reopening on Aug. 22.

Capitola, CA, July 11, 2018 — After completion of a major renovation project, the Capitola Goodwill store will celebrate its grand reopening on Aug. 22.

The store at 1550 41st Avenue in Capitola will host city officials, Goodwill board members and staff for a reopening ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, and will open to the public at 9 a.m.

The store has expanded into an adjacent space, growing from 11,500 square feet to 17,500 square feet, expanding and improving its donation processing area and retail sales floor. The expansion also allows Goodwill to add six more full-time employees to its current 24 employees.

“This investment renews our very strong commitment to Santa Cruz County,” said Ed Durkee, President and CEO. “Once completed, we will have remodeled, moved or renovated all four retail stores in Santa Cruz County in less than 24 months.”

Goodwill’s Santa Cruz store at 204 Union St. is also getting a new look and is scheduled for completion about the same time as the Capitola store.

“Our commitment and continued presence in these communities is unwavering and we look forward to many more decades of community support and providing jobs to people with barriers to employment,” said Durkee.

Jim Burke, Vice President of Retail and Operations, said that donations to Goodwill and shoppers to the store have seen an uptick in recent years, which the expansion will be able to accommodate.

“We’ve enlarged the donation area by three times, so logistically, we’ll be able to handle all the donations the store gets,” said Burke.

The expansion also benefits Goodwill’s mission to help people train for and get jobs in the community.

Goodwill Central Coast continues its investments in Santa Cruz County and creates more jobs,” said Durkee. “Goodwill is creating more jobs and training opportunities through additional investment in our Retail Training Centers in Capitola and Downtown Santa Cruz.”

The opening takes place just prior to Be Kind to Humankind Week, an annual celebration of kindness that is recognized globally from Aug. 25-31 every year. The week is a time for everyone to reflect on what we can all do in order to make this world a better place.

Greenfield-Based Mesa Del Sol Wines Getting Excellent Placement in Local Monterey County Restaurants

Award-winning wines from Mesa Del Sol in Greenfield are getting excellent placement in Monterey County restaurants, according to Ann Hougham, owner of Mesa Del Sol.

Greenfield, CA, July 04, 2018 – Award-winning wines from Mesa Del Sol in Greenfield are getting excellent placement in Monterey County restaurants, according to Ann Hougham, owner of Mesa Del Sol.

Hougham said she just placed her 2013 Sangiovese, which recently received a 91-point rating from Wine Enthusiast magazine, at Nepenthe in Big Sur. The Sangiovese, which Hougham describes as “A fruit-forward wine, soft on the palate, with just the right amount of tannins,” was also placed at Il Tegamino in Carmel and InterContinental The Clement Monterey.

Il Tegamino also will pour the 2012 Prima Rosso, also a 91-pointer from Wine Enthusiast, while the Clement has added the 2011 Dessert Zinfandel, which garnered a 92-point rating.

Deetjen’s in Big Sur carries the 2013 Zinfandel, a 90-pointer that Hougham describes as “an elegant wine which soars from the glass with aromas of cranberry, toasted hazelnuts and cherries,” and the 2011 Dessert Zin.

The Cypress Inn and La Balena in Carmel also carry the 2013 Zinfandel, while La Balena carries the 2012 Prima Rosso as well.

About Mesa Del Sol Wines

Climate and geography play a large part in making Mesa Del Sol wines spectacular.

Lean rocky soils have been nurtured with organic farming practices where cover cropping and composting the fields provide a yearly dose of organic matter. The vines are irrigated from a thriving trout pond feeding them with living water. The hot arid days of the uplands and cool marine night air of the Pacific provide a perfect setting for nature to weave her magic.

Past harvests have brought Mesa Del Sol accolades; most notably the 2002 Hunter Hill Mesa Del Sol Syrah took “Best in Show” at the 2005 California State Fair Wine Competition. The Syrah was chosen as number one from a field of 2,800 wines.

Current Mesa Del Sol Varietals:

•Syrah

•Sangiovese

•Zinfandel

•Dessert Zinfandel

•Prima Rosso (our blend of estate-grown fruit)
