Bollywood in centenary glory, rare Hindi film clips

Bollywood, one of the largest film production centres in the world, turns hundred years in 2012. To mark this historic occasion, www.indiavideo.org has launched a year-long celebration which will take the viewers to the key moments in the momentous journey of Hindi Cinema. The project is supported by Culture Shoppe, an online cultural gift shop, and Mulamoottil Eye Hospital, a leading super specialty eye hospital.

The special centenary gallery on the website and its YouTube channel www.youtube.com/indiavideodotorghas already become a big hit among Bollywood fans spread across the world.

As part of the centenary fete, www.indiavideo.org is featuring 365 movies carefully chosen to represent the history of Bollywood. Here you could watch some all-time hit movies, some trend setters in story telling and techniques, movies through which some ordinary men and women rose to stardom and many more.

Clippings of the selected movies are presented along with a brief talk on the specialties and historical aspects of the film. The nearly two-minute movie will have the best moments in a film.

The movies were chosen by researcher and columnist Vijay Kumar Balakrishnan who has been exploring Bollywood for the past 40 years. He is also an avid collector of Bollywood posters, gramophone records, song books, vintage films etc. Eminent Kathak dancer and social activist Pali Chandra is the anchor.

“From Dadasaheb Phalke, V Shantaram, Himanshu Rai, Vijay Bhatt, Fateh Lal, Sohrab Modi, Damle, Bimal Roy, Mehboob Khan, Raj Kapoor to G P Sippy, Mahesh Bhatt, Shekhar Kapur, Mira Nair, Aamir Khan, Ram Gopal Varma and Karan Johar, the gallery will introduce personalities who influenced the industry from time to time,” says Vijay Kumar Balakrishnan. “ It has rare and exclusive visuals of old films like Raja Harishchandra, Ayodhya ka Raja, Pukar, Kapal Kundala, Izzat, Doctor, Maya Machindra and the like,” he adds.

The Bollywood centenary gallery of www.indiavideo.org is perhaps the first of its kind online project to preserve the history of a film genre. Visitors are offered free access to the gallery which is a useful resource for academicians and researchers.

Products To Beautify Your Garden Decor

If you’ve run out of fresh ideas and do not know how to keep the scene in your backyard going, why not consider some of the following product selections. They will certainly give your garden a new look. Whether you want to mix and match products or give your garden that relaxing feel, don’t scratch your hair out of frustration. Just look for the following products and watch your hard labor come to fruition. Of course no one said beautifying your garden would be easy. As in any designing project, planning well is always harder than its execution. Get your pen and pad out and start planning with some of these products in mind.

Garden Stones
Decorative garden stones are ideal for giving your outdoor space a more elegant, interesting look while still being practical. Garden stones come in a wide variety of different sizes and shapes, and many offer a motif that might be near and dear to your heart, like the “Gather” garden stone, designed with colorful butterflies, the“Love Blooms Here” garden stone, complete with fairies, butterflies and flowers in an ivory finish, or the “Love” Garden stone, which features text, boldly colored dragonflies and water lily blooms. You can pick one type of garden stone and use several of them throughout your space to create a walkway or you can pick different ones to mix and match throughout your garden.

Urn Fountains
Urn fountains are a subdued yet noticeable addition to any garden. Urn fountains are made from faux-stone materials that look surprisingly real up close, and the graceful curves and shape of the fountain, along with the delicate stream of water emanating from the fountain are sure to give your garden a relaxing feel.

Acorn Fountains
Acorn fountains have a traditional look much like the alabaster fountains you probably grew up seeing in your neighbors or grandmother’s garden. Made from ivory alabastrite, acorn fountains look just like real stone, and the bright, vibrant color is sure to get the attention of visitors. Place an acorn fountain in the middle of your garden as a marvelous centerpiece. Not only will the fountain be beautiful, but the added visual interest will really make the colors of your flowers and plants pop.

Wind Chimes
Wind chimes are a beautiful, soothing addition to your garden or outdoor space. Wind chimes come in a variety of different materials and styles. The most common type is classic aluminum wind chimes, which produce soft, gentle tones throughout the day and night. If you’re looking for something more decorative, consider acrylic hummingbird chimes, which are adorned with colorful hummingbirds. For the ocean lover, acrylic dolphin wind chimes can bring a bit of the sea right to your own backyard. You can also add delicate rhythmic sounds to your garden by adding natural or coated bamboo chimes to your garden. If you have a very large outdoor area, consider mixing and matching different types of wind chimes or buying multiple sets.

Antique-Style Ivory or Sage Duck Décor
Adding an antique-style ivory or sage duck statue to your garden is a great way to add a bit of color and whimsy to your space. The weathered finish of the statue gives your wood duck a delightful old-time feel, similar to those found in the gardens of yesteryear. Choose just one or two duck statues, or if you have a small pond or fountain, purchase multiple ducks to make a charming outdoor scene for your garden. You can even put other animal statues like roosters or chickens nearby to give your area a bit of a wild farm feel. Don’t spend your money on antique statues from consignment shops and flea markets when you can buy high-quality new ones that will last longer for just a fraction of the cost.

Barnyard Birdhouse
What garden would be complete without singing birds? Adding the barnyard birdhouse to one of your nearby trees with area-appropriate food and water will definitely draw beautiful avian creatures right to your home. Large enough for a small family of birds, the barnyard birdhouse will add a rustic look to your garden.

Blue Floral Planters
If you have herbs, vegetables or flowers that you prefer to grow in planters rather than in the ground, planters painted in a Delft style are perfect for almost any space because the vibrant Delft blue and crystal clear white will match anything you put in them. You can choose to buy blue floral planters in a variety of different sizes and with or without a drain hole depending on your needs.

Butterfly Garden Stakes
Garden stakes are purely decorative items that bring extra life and color to your garden. No garden is truly finished until there are beautiful butterflies floating around, but luckily, you can add them yourself! Butterfly garden stakes come in a translucent red color that catches the sun and makes them glimmer in the light. Try adding butterfly garden stakes along walkways or within groups of plants that need a burst of color. Butterfly garden stakes can also be used as decorative reminders to prune or trim certain items in your garden the next day or week.

Bullfrog Garden Solar Light
If you want to keep your garden glowing at night without the cost of expensive solar or electric lights, bullfrog garden solar lights can do the job while adding a fun, whimsical style to your garden. Bullfrog garden solar lights are made with a high-quality poly-resin for durability in all conditions.

There you have it, affordable, useful, durable and stylish decor that’ll beautify your garden. Hopefully these ideas and great products have livened up your day as they will certainly lighten up your garden for days, months, even years. Most of all you can get all these products at affordable prices. For more decorative products and ideas to beautify your garden, visit Affordable home decor.

Kay Pratt Announced as the Gallery’s Featured Artist

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is pleased to announce that Californian artist Kay Pratt is this month’s featured artist.

Jupiter, Florida – June 16, 2012 — Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is pleased to announce that Californian artist Kay Pratt is this month’s featured artist. Kay has participated in several of the gallery’s art exhibitions and she won the Second Annual 2011 Abstract Exhibition for her painting “Play Red”.

Kay states this about her art and her life in California, “As a native Californian I spent my childhood years playing in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains above Sunland Tujunga. Slowly, the majestic spaces I once called “Fort” or “Cave” were diminished by the demands of development – lost forever.

The great Plein Air Painters of the California Coastal and Desert Lands left us the legacy of their works and with them an historical account of those lost places – truly a gift to us all! In the tradition of my late Grandfather, Walt A. Lee and his many “sketch trek buddies” such as Hanson Putthuff and Edgar A. Payne, I try to capture threatened and historical places with love and the hope that my works will remind viewers of the importance of the preservation of the scenic California landscape”.

Kay Pratt is a Visual Artist and a Certified Expressive Arts Therapy Practitioner; she is the Founder and Director of the Expressive Arts Therapists Network in Orange County, CA, a member of the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA) and The Lighthouse for the blind and visually impaired in San Francisco, California.

Kay is a member of the following art organizations; Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, the California Art Club and the Acrylic Painters Association of America. Her website and art blog is http://fineartbykay.com

The World’s Top Selling Stock Photographer Yuri Arcurs Launches His Own Direct Sales Platform (PeopleImages.com) To Pave The Way For Other Creatives

As off today www.PeopleImages.com is officially out of beta testing mode and live! For years, the major stock agencies have been pushing commissions lower and lower, reaching an all time low of 15% last year making it almost impossible for photographers to gain profit from selling their images online. This can be seen in comparison to Apple’s iTunes store where the artists receive a 70% commission for their work. Furthermore, with the introduction of micro prices in 2005, the stock industry has been under enormous pressure and few photographers have been able to survive of their meager earnings.

With www.PeopleImages.com Danish born Yuri Arcurs has shown that it is possible to make it on your own and sell directly to your customers. His site introduces services that all other artists would be able to offer clients, but which agencies would have a problem providing: Custom retouching, image exclusivity options and the ability to request more images of a specific model or particular style.

Quotes:
Lee Torrens (stock photography journalist – microstockdiaries.com)
“With the launch of PeopleImages.com, the hard work and smart decisions of Yuri’s stock photography career come together in a lucrative business model that no other stock photographer is positioned to pull off. What’s more, it pulls market power back from stock photo agencies who have been dropping photographer royalties for years.”

Jenan Mujkic (10 years experience in buying images online – sneezr.ca)
“This site makes all other sites look like they are from the last century. Take note, PeopleImages.com just jumped a curve!”

Yuri Arcurs: (Photographer, creator of PeopleImages.com)
“Very few people that buy images know how small a percentage of the actual sales price the artists receive. It’s a shame, because the small artists have a hard enough time already.”

http://arcurs.com/2012/06/www-peopleimages-com-has-launched-a-post-about-how-it-got-there/

Quotes from the text:

“Managing six IT guys would prove to be more time-consuming and more difficult than managing my entire business.”

“Very few people will tell you to your face “this will not work” or “we need to delete 1,000 hours of code work because it will create bugs.” Especially not if they are hired by you.”

“News of the launch was leaked to the media three days before our original launch date, and it was posted on the front page of the biggest newspaper in Denmark. It became quite clear what we had to do. We had to launch now. Not in in three days. Not tomorrow. Now.”

“All the tools that a normal manager can use to direct a project are inaccessible to an IT manager that is not a developer themselves.”

“We, as artists, are perfectionists, we have to be, but for a perfectionist to ever create anything great, you must be able to say: “Stop – Enough with the details!” and settle with the less attractive option.”

“Programmers love detailed planning, and most other people do, too, but great interactive design was never arrived at from the very first go-ahead. It is, by its very nature, an experimental process and you will find yourself often arriving at the best solutions when you start using the interface yourself. The only problem is at this point somebody has already had to build it and be ready to discard it.”

“We discarded the whole site two times and had to start over. Most people would consider that a total flop, a loss in all ways, but it ended up getting us closer and closer to having a thorough understanding of how the site would need to behave.”

“Preparing for the launch event, I had a 6min live TV spot lined up on the launch date in front of 1.5 million viewers. I was extremely lucky to get this pitched to the editor in such a way that they ended up running the story. But when it actually was about to unfold I was more nervous than I have ever been prior to any interview. I only had about 15 hours of sleep the last week before the launch, and had to be ready to go live at 8am in the morning with 4 hours of “airplane sleep” – and, naturally with all the stress involved in the launch, I fell ill the day before the TV spot. It was simply madness, but it had to be done and it had to be done well.”

Chicago, IL, May 17, 2012 — Bottle & Bottega, a premier corporate and social event business that creates fun and unique artistic experiences paired with wine, announced the sale of another franchise location, this time in the La Grange, IL market, a suburb just outside Chicago, the company’s headquarters and home to its flagship studio. The new owners, Paul and Meg LeFaivre, call La Grange home and will launch their business on June 11, 2012.

“Interest in Bottle & Bottega franchise territories has been very strong since our launch, especially in our home state of Illinois, and we couldn’t be more pleased and encouraged to welcome our newest franchise less than 6 months from the launch of our franchise program,” says Nancy Bigley, the company’s CEO and Co-owner. By franchising, we want to give others the same opportunity to be their own boss and enjoy highly gratifying work while building their financial future,” says King-Myers.

Bottle & Bottega provides an opportunity for entrepreneurial-minded, fun-loving, savvy professionals to operate a year-round business that serves adults and organizations, with multiple revenue streams ranging from public and private parties to retail and more, provided in studio and off-site at residential and commercial venues. Anecdotes And A Philosphy Of Life From A Family Of Sixteen

Is there an uneasiness that tugs at you from your interior? What is the meaning and purpose of life? Do you want to live in the world without being of the world? How can one achieve true happiness and fulfillment? These are questions addressed in BETTER BY THE DOZEN, PLUS TWO, subtitled Anecdotes and a Philosophy of Life from a Family of Sixteen, written by James and Kathleen Littleton, parents in the process of raising fourteen living children.

This unique and inspiring book unmasks many of the fundamental errors of our time, with the authors offering a concrete hierarchy of values or priorities to live by in the midst of what they describe as a seriously disordered modern dominant culture. It is designed to be an appealing and interesting read for anyone and everyone intended to move the reader to serious reflection on the state of his or her life, and to hopefully come away with some helpful resolutions of a spiritual and/or practical nature.

The Littletons offer experience and insights into subjects including faith, family, living by a hierarchy of values, marriage, motherhood, openness to life, miscarriage, formation of children, service, dealing with difficulties of life, and the importance of having a sense of humor

Praise Posted on Amazon.com:

Superb! Superb! Superb! March 28, 2011I read this book at least once a year. I am now in my fourth reading since purchasing it. You will fall in love with this large, Irish Catholic family, as I have. Jim and Kathleen Littleton are devout Catholics who have not been afraid to make radical choices when it comes to living a Christ-centered life or raising a family in such a way that goes completely against the grain of the dominant culture. They have been such an inspiration to me. In fact, after my husband read this book, he decided to become a Catholic! The Littletons have 14 living children. In this book, they will share with you what they are convinced are God’s Hierarchy of Values, namely, God, Spouse, Children, Work, and then Service Work/Apostolate. They also discuss Marriage, Motherhood, Openness to Life, Formation of Children, Service, Cross-Carrying, and the necessity of possessing a sense of humor. Whenever I become discouraged as a parent, I know that it’s time to take this book off of the shelf and read it again. It is the only Catholic book on parenting and devotion that I continue to read over and over again. I eagerly await their next book, and hope that one day, there will be one. 5.0 out of 5 stars Superb! Superb! Superb! March 28, 2011 By Tara ( Alamogordo, NM)

Jim and Kathleen are a beautiful example of understanding, living, and teaching the Catholic faith. I felt like I wanted to be adopted by them! 5.0 out of 5 stars Motivating, October 12, 2007 By Suzanne Earl St. Joseph, pray for us! ( Illinois )

This book is proof that current cultural wisdom is wrong and that the Catholic teaching on openness to life is right. Who knows better, you or God? The Littletons are an excellent example of the generosity God is asking for. One important lesson pointed out by James and Kathleen Littleton is that the world looks at children as a burden which actually belittles the contribution that children bring. They are not just empty stomachs and brains demanding to be fed and sent to college. They are persons who contribute to the family from the day they are brought into it–and more and more as they mature. This book was like a pleasant stroll through a different world in which values were properly prioritized. I only wish there were more anecdotes about the children’s interaction with each other and the hostile world. I loved the one about two older kids saving 10 seats in a theater during the previews while the younger ones waited in the lobby so they didn’t have to look at all the junk in the previews. A good gift for your teenaged sons and daughters. A mandatory gift for Pre-Cana classes. Good idea for Engaged- and Marriage Encounter Weekend attendees. Five Stars Countercultural May 21, 2012 By Jeffery R. King.

Authentic Cuba Travel Offers Incredible Access with their Havana Jazz Festival Tour

About the Festival

The 28th Havana Jazz Festival, or Jazz Plaza 2012, is sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Music and has been organized by world-renowned, 7-time Grammy winning musician Chucho Valdes. This year’s festival will run from the 20th to the 23rd of December and will take place at a number of locations in the historic Cuban capital. The tour itself spans from December 16th to December 24th.

Visitors and guests will find that the Havana International Jazz Festival is an event that no jazz lover should miss. In the past, the festival has played host to such talents as Dizzy Gillespie, Ronnie Scott, Luis Monge, The Ronnie Mathews Trio, and many more. In addition to global talents, you will find that the festival brings out Cuba’s finest jazz bands and soloists. Whether you want to experience the main performances or to enjoy the late night jam sessions between artists, you may wish to book your travel now, as festival tours are selling out quickly.

Visitors will find that live music and excitement will be on offer at venues throughout the city. The festival allows you to experience some of the world’s most amazing musicians while taking in the splendor of locations such as Karl Marx Theatre, Mella Theatre, Casa de la Cultura de Plaza, Palacio de La Rumba, and Casa del Alba. The festival is a unique opportunity to experience jazz music on the very island where it has its roots.

The Tour Experience

By booking a Havana Jazz Festival tour with Authentic Cuba Travel, you will get much more than just the chance to hear some of the world’s most remarkable jazz musicians. The tour will take you to some of Havana’s most important and historic locations, including a number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You will also receive full access to all of the festival’s concerts, including premium seating at both the opening and closing ceremonies.

Booking a tour with Authentic Cuba Travel allows you to truly see why Cuba is one of the most remarkable islands in the Caribbean. While US-Cuban diplomatic relations are strained, relative isolation has helped keep the island authentic and provides a more genuine Cuban experience for travelers who have the chance to visit. Your tour itinerary will offer the chance to see the best that Havana and Cuba have to offer, including the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Cienfuegos City, Old Havana, Viñales Valley, and Trinidad. You will also get the opportunity to attend the shooting of the 9 O’Clock Cannon, a historic tradition that dates back to the 16th century, when a cannon shot was fired to signal military men to retreat from their positions and was later used to signal the close of the city walls during colonial times.

Literary and history buffs will also have the chance to experience the world as Ernest Hemingway did during the many years that the island served as his home. You will get the chance to explore Hemingway’s long-time home of Finca Vigia, where the writer spent more than two decades. You will also get the chance to tour the fishing village of Cojimar, which served as the inspiration and backdrop for Hemingway’s famed novel The Old Man and the Sea. In the village, you will find a bust of the author commemorating his impact on the village and its economy. Hemingway, like many visitors to Cuba, was renowned for his appreciation of fine Cuban cigars, and your visit will offer you the chance to tour the famed Partagas Cigar Factory, which has been in operation since 1845.

Hemingway isn’t the only local celebrity that plays a role in your tour experience. When you book with Authentic Cuba Travel, you will have the opportunity to rub shoulders and engage in conversation with many of the island’s most remarkable artists. Festival goers frequently get the chance to meet many of the performers, and your tour includes the opportunity to enjoy a lunch hosted by Jose Fuster- one of the island’s most renowned painters and ceramists. You’ll also get the chance to enjoy a private meeting with world famous architect Miguel Coyula during your visit to the Scale Model of Havana. Coyula is also Havana’s city historian, and his knowledge and appreciation for the city are certain to provide you with a deeper love and appreciation for Havana.

A Havana Jazz Festival Tour with Authentic Cuba Travel offers the chance to experience all of this and much more. A detailed itinerary leaves no stone unturned, providing beautiful accommodations and the chance to explore much of what makes Cuba one of the most amazing and enthralling travel destinations in the world. From breathtaking castles to the Jazz Festival itself, your tour creates an experience unlike any other.
