Tourism industry in Mauritius keeps growing for 2011

Mauritius has always been a favourite holiday destination for many of people around the world because the clean beaches, crystal clear waters and friendly locals have made it enticing. Over the last ten years Mauritius has made it into the top ten when it comes to holidays to exotic destinations and with flights and hotel accommodation also getting cheaper, it has also become a favourite for those with families too.

Mauritius is a very small island and benefits greatly from tourism. With so much to do and see, it’s not surprising why many come back year and year again. Mauritius used to export a lot of sugar and tea as it was highly sought after but nowadays the textiles industry is booming. Many factories are now supplying the latest fashion to high street chains such as Next and Marks and Spencer’s. So if ever you go over for a visit, why not head to a factory shop where you can get good quality clothing that costs a fraction of the price that you would pay elsewhere.

There are also many little islands around Mauritius that are also worth a visit and with demand increasing every year, the tourism industry has started to invest in catamarans and boats to ferry people across. As interest in Mauritius continues to increase, so does the amount of people visiting; it is estimated that tourist arrivals will increase as much as 12% in 2011 as travel agents continue to slash prices to entice people to travel.

Mauritius also has an abundance of people with skills such as carpentry. In the local bazaar, you can see what some of the talented locals have to offer. Individually made masks, souvenirs made out of coconuts and unique sculptures are just some of the things that can be found there.

Everyone can afford to go to Mauritius as there are holidays to suit all budgets and adventures; a romantic getaway for two, a family holiday with small children, exploring the wildlife and tropical plants to water sports. There are many different types of accommodation to choose from budget to luxury hotel, there are now hostels where you can travel backpacker style for minimal amenities and cost.

Another plus side to visiting Mauritius is the ability to combine it with other countries; you can stop en route to places such as France, Dubai and Hong Kong and the same going back. You can take the opportunity to visit Australia, New Zealand and Asia as Mauritius has good links to these far to reach destinations.

Whatever you’re into, Mauritius is sure to have something for you, so get out there and explore.
