Celebrating 40 Years with the Summer of Love

Special Promotions Through June • Promo Code:LOVE

Monterey, CA, May 18, 2017 – The RV Park, located at the north end of the fairgrounds, is encouraging people to get out and explore Monterey County in an RV and to book a space at the RV Park, which is centrally located in Monterey, close to all the attractions such as Fisherman’s Wharf, Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the city of Carmel and Pebble Beach.

With that in mind, the RV Park celebrates the month of May, National Pet Month (the RV Park is pet-friendly); and June, National Great Outdoors Month.

National Pet Month is a celebration of the benefits that pets bring to people’s lives and vice versa. National Pet Month’s aims are to: Promote the benefits of pet ownership; support pet adoption; make people aware of the benefits of pets for people and people for pets; increase public awareness of services available from professionals who work with animals; and raise awareness of the role, value and contribution to society of working companion animals.

Great Outdoors Week started in 1998 and expanded to Great Outdoors Month in 2004, and aims to encourage more people to get out and enjoy the world around them, simply by exercising or taking part in volunteer programs or instilling in children the importance of outside play and how getting out and about can be part of a healthy lifestyle. There is so much the great outdoors has to offer so, why not get out there and enjoy it!

Theme of this year’s Monterey County Fair, “Fair Fun in the Summer of Love,” celebrates 1967’s Summer of Love. Celebrated Carmel Artist Jo Mora’s Illustration Again Selected for Official Fair Poster

Monterey, CA, April 08, 2017 — Paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of the 1967’s “Summer of Love,” the Monterey County Fair announces that this year’s theme for the Aug. 31-Sept. 4 event will be “Fair Fun in the Summer of Love.”

The fair also unveiled its new poster for this year’s event featuring the artwork of Jo Mora (1876-1947), the celebrated Carmel artist, sculptor, author and muralist.

The colorful poster features a fairy princess carrying a shining star wand, sitting in a flower-bedecked coach with lightning bugs providing light and beetles resting from pulling the coach. The poster exhibits some of Mora’s trademark touches, including whimsy, great detail and precise coloring.

The image is an illustration from Mora’s children’s book “Budgee Budgee Cottontail.” Mora wrote the story and did the illustrations in 1936 while he was traveling around the world on a freighter with his family. But it was not published until 1995, based on a promise Mora’s son, Joey, made to his father to see that it find the light of day.

The image comes from the Jo Mora Trust and is the fourth time that one of Mora’s illustrations has been used by the Monterey County Fair for its poster.

“We’re really honored to be able to again use one of Jo Mora’s wonderful illustrations because it perfectly captures the spirit and sense of fun of 1967’s Summer of Love,” says Kelly Violini, Monterey County Fair CEO. “We have some exciting concerts and special events planned to celebrate our 81st year, which we feel is better and stronger than ever. The fair may be one day shorter this year, but it will have all of the same features as previous years and allows us to tighten our offerings and focus on making it better and more of a value for everyone.”

The Monterey County Fair will run from Thursday, Aug. 31-Monday, Sept. 4, 2017
