Additionally the top can be operated from the original key from remote. A quick key combination on the remote is all that is needed to start a full automatic top cycle. While the top is still opening, SmartTOP customers can get in and start driving. No changes are necessary to either the key remotes or the receiver system.

Other than the two main features mentioned above, the SmartTOP comes with a host of configurable bonus features: All windows can be simultaneously and fully automatically closed via the “all windows” switch. An “extended mode” allows turning the ignition on or off while an ongoing top operation is allowed to continue. Turning off the ignition can be set to unlock the doors. The passenger mirror can be programmed to dip down in reverse gear. A safety feature can be activated that blinks the hazard blinkers during remote activated top operation.

The entire module can be deactivated temporarily while retaining all other user configurable settings. The module comes with a standard USB port for quick and easy firmware updates via PC or Mac as well as computer based configuration of the module user settings. Support software and firmware updates are available online and free of charge.

A plug-in-between wiring adapter is part of the kit. It allows for a simple and easy installation of the SmartTOP module in the car by just connecting the module to the car electronics in two steps.

The aftermarket SmartTOP Convertible Top Controller made by Mods4cars for the Nissan 370Z Roadster now ships with a new product enclosure. Las Vegas, NV (USA), July 24th, 2015 — Automotive electronics specialist Mods4cars has upgraded the product enclosure for the SmartTOP add-on convertible top controller modules. Just in time for the convertible top season 2015 the module for the Nissan 370Z Roadster has received the new, custom designed enclosure. The new shape and size of the module is not only slimmer and more esthetic looks wise, it also makes installation a lot easier.

Due to the smaller size it can be mounted in tighter spaces in the car and two integrated LEDs indicate when the module was installed correctly. The new enclosure also uses a lot less plastic and no more screws. This makes the product more environmentally friendly overall.

The SmartTOP kits make using the convertible top easier and more fun. They allow drivers to open and close the top with one-touch convenience and while driving at slow speeds of up to 40 km/h (~28 mph). It is no longer necessary to hold down the switch for the duration of the operation. A quick tap is enough to start a full automatic open or close cycle.

Additionally it is possible to control the top from a distance, using just the original factory key fob remote. A quick key combination on the remote triggers automatic opening or closing of the top. Users can select if they want windows up or down after opening the top. No changes are needed to be made to the original fobs or receiver system.

Apart from these two main features SmartTOP comes with a few bonus features, all of which can be individually configured to taste. The windows can be controlled separately from the top by remote for example and all windows can be closed at once with the console switch.

A chirp feature is built in that can, if desired, give a short audible confirmation when locking or unlocking the car. Doors can be auto-locked while driving and hazard flashers can be activated during remote operation. An extended mode allows turning the engine on or off while the top continues to run and the entire module can be disabled temporarily, if needed, while retaining all user settings for when it is re-enabled later.

The kit comes with a plug-in-between wiring adapter for easy installation. The module itself is equipped with a USB port for configuration and firmware updates. Support software as well as firmware updates are available free of charge online.

The sleek new shape was custom designed for Mods4cars and gives the module not only a more streamlined appearance but adds convenience when installing the product. The SmartTOP module allows drivers to open and close the convertible top while driving and with one-touch operation.

Las Vegas, NV (USA), February 21st, 2014 — The SmartTOP Convertible Top add-on module designed by aftermarket automotive electronics specialist Mods4cars for the Mazda MX-5 is a kit that can be installed by anyone. It allows drivers to operate the top while driving at speeds of up to 60 km/h (~38mph) with added convenience. A quick tap on the console button is sufficient.

“Every convertible driver knows the scenarios: Sunshine turns into cloudy skies followed by a sudden rainfall. Now all that matters is being able to stop quickly to close the top. Or hoping that a red light won’t change while the top is still closing.” says PR-Manager Sven Tornow. With the SmartTOP module the top can be used even while driving at slow speeds, so the top-down experience comes with more peace of mind.

The MX-5 compatible module can be used in three ways. 1. After unlatching the mechanical lock the top can be lowered by holding down the appropriate switch on the dash and raised the same way. 2. One-Touch operation. Same as before but the top opens or closes fully automatically after just a quick touch. 3. Auto Feature: When this setting is activated, the top will fully automatically lower itself right after the latch is disengaged and without the need to press the top down button at all. Closing is done the same way as in 2. All three options allow use of the top while the car is moving and without the need to shift into neutral or park gear.

Mods4cars has improved the design of the SmartTOP product itself and effective immediately all modules for the Mazda MX-5 come in the new, slimmer and more streamlined enclosure. The new shape was custom designed to fit the components perfectly and to encapsulate the product fully. All LEDs and connectors, including the USB port, are now enclosed in order to be optimally protected.

The new enclosure is also smaller than before and thus allows the product to be installed in tighter spots. It is more eco-friendly by no longer requiring screws and by using less plastic. Additionally two LEDs were fully integrated that aid during installation. They show current status, trouble codes and signal a correct installation of the module.

In order to make installation as simple as possible, a custom designed Plug-and-Play wiring harness is part of the kit. It uses genuine OEM connectors for a perfect and secure fit. No wires need to be spliced or cut. It simply connects in between two connectors and the SmartTOP module. It is possible to remove the kit without leaving any traces.

The SmartTOP module can be programmed according to individual needs. It is possible to configure the maximum speed allowed for top operation as well as other settings. The add-on kit allows use of the top while driving at slow speeds of up to 50 km/h (~28 mph) and with one-touch convenience.

The top can also be raised or lowered with the factory key fob remote by using an intuitive key press sequence. It is no longer necessary to stop and pull over or run to the car in case of sudden rainfall; or the top can be opened while approaching the car.

Aftermarket electronics specialist Mods4cars completely revamped the design of the SmartTOP module enclosure. The entire module can also be temporarily disabled while retaining all user settings.

Las Vegas, NV (USA), September 30th, 2013 — The SmartTOP Convertible Top Controller made by Mods4cars for Audi A5 is a retrofit module which allows using the convertible top with one-touch convenience and while driving at slow speeds. It also gives owners the option to raise and lower the top from the original key fob remote. This summer Mods4cars has improved not just one, but two aspects of the kit: On one hand the wiring harness was redesigned with OEM quality connectors in order to make installation even easier, on the other hand the SmartTOP module itself received a design overhaul and comes in the exclusive, custom designed Mods4cars enclosure.

USB Update Application for SmartTOP Modules Now Available in the Mac App Store

Aftermarket automotive electronics specialist Mods4cars ships the SmartTOP add-on convertible top modules equipped with a standard USB port for PC based configuration and firmware updates. The Mac version of the “m4cconnect” software application offered for that purpose is now available in the official Apple Mac App Store.

Las Vegas, NV (USA), June 17th, 2013 — The SmartTOP add-on controller offered by Mods4cars delivers extra convenience and functionality for convertible top operation. Amongst other features it allows use of the top while driving at slow speeds (up to 60km/h / 38mph on some models) as well as one-touch and remote operation. Each module comes with a host of user configurable bonus functions as well.

For that reason all SmartTOP modules come equipped with a mini USB port which allows customers to connect the product to their laptop or desktop computers.
