Sri Lanka Pavilion To Showcase The Best Of Sri Lankan Tea At 3rd Edition Of “World Tea & Coffee Expo”™ 2015

* Rising demand in India for tea from Sri Lanka spurs Sri Lanka Tea Board to set up an exclusive Pavilion at India’s only trade show dedicated to the Tea & Coffee sectors.

Mumbai, India, July 22, 2015 — With Indian consumption of Sri Lankan tea rising rapidly, the Sri Lanka Tea Board has reserved a special pavilion at the 3rd edition of World Tea & Coffee Expo (WTCE) 2015 being held at Mumbai, India’s commercial capital, from 1st Oct 2015 to 3rd Oct 2015. Under the aegis of the Sri Lanka Tea Board, a number of companies shall be showcasing various kinds of bulk and packet Tea with a view to increase bilateral trade with India. During the current year itself (i.e. 2015), Sri Lanka has exported more than 300 tonnes of Tea to India. Sri Lankan companies shall be displaying Ceylon Super Pekoe black tea, Ceylon green tea, White Tea, Ceylon Silver tip tea, Instant Tea and special types of tea for which Sri Lanka is famous.

According to Mr. Y.G.Wijeratne, Chairman, Sri Lanka Tea Board, “India has a large and growing consumer base with varied levels of income, making it a great market for all kinds of Tea. Our participation in WTCE 2015 will enable us to promote Sri Lankan companies in India at a dedicated trade fair which provides an opportunity to directly interact with Indian buyers, potential partners and government officials”

Although India is the second largest producer of tea in the world – because of its population size – it is also the 2ndlargest consumer of Tea. With changing lifestyles, large-scale urbanization and mushrooming of upscale cafes for both Tea & Coffee, demand for non traditional tea like Premium tea, green tea, white tea etc is growing at a whopping 20% annually. Due to shortage of high quality premium tea supply in India, Indian branded tea companies buy premium tea from Kenya and Sri Lanka.

The 3rd World Tea & Coffee Expo 2015 offers a platform, which promises to not only boost the Indian Tea and Coffee industry; but also strengthen relationships between India and the participating nations. In addition to a display of products, Vending Solutions, machineries, technologies and certifications from the entire gamut of the Hot beverage sector, additional activities at the Expo include: B2B match-making, Workshops & Championships, a High Level 2-day Conference by Industry leaders, academicians and policy makers, export/import guidance kiosks, Knowledge zone etc. The WTCE platform is utilized by many companies as a launching pad for new products.

The Expo shall emphasize the prospects of the Hot Beverage sector as also showcase technological innovations in this important sector.”

The Upscale café culture has contributed significantly to the growth of both Coffee & Tea in India with exotic branding and packaging coupled with a dynamic product mix are driving the demand. Drinking habits and lifestyles have changed in the last 8 – 10 years and people are now willing to pay more for quality. India is the 2nd largest producer, 2nd largest consumer and 4th largest exporter of tea with a 23% share in global production, a 12% share in world tea exports and a per capita consumption of about 725 grams (2013-14 figures). The 6th largest producer of the coffee in the world, India exports more than 80% of its coffee presently but a rising domestic demand at 7% annually may change this scenario completely over the next decade or so. The trend towards health consciousness, coupled with increased competitive pressure, will further push new product development in the next five years, which will in turn boost industry demand. Most International companies which have entered India are doing brisk business and expanding their operations. The World Tea & Coffee Expo is the catalyst for International companies to target this huge market.

The event being first of its kind, where interaction was so intense, that it is bound to address some real serious issues impacting the industry.”

According to an Assocham study the domestic tea industry is growing annually at 15%. The study further states that India accounts for nearly 30% of global Tea output and nearly 25% of tea produced worldwide is consumed in India. Cafe chains (both Tea & Coffee) are expected to generate a turnover of $410 million in India by 2017. Internationally, the market for RTD tea and coffee in terms of revenue is expected to reach US $125 billion by 2017 as against US $69 billion in 2011 (estimated) signaling an anticipated annual growth of 10.9 % 2012 to 2017.

Mr Ravi Thapa of Manjushree Plantations Ltd, one of the major exhibitors says, “We were delighted to be part of the World Tea & Coffee Expo 2013 in Mumbai on Feb 15-17, 2013. Noor Zaki Yahya of Balung Plantations, Malaysia, “We have displayed some very exciting range of teas here in WTCE like java teas and lemon grass teas which are very rare teas and organic teas. From our participation in WTCE, we are sure that there is lot of potential for these teas here in India as everybody seems to be interested in these high end teas. We have lot of footfalls to our stall and our participation really went off well.”

* Global Hot Beverages market expected to reach $125 billion by 2017, growing at an estimated 10.9% annually from 2012 to 2017. * Over 10,000 Trade Visitors expected.

Mumbai, India, December 06, 2012 — The World Tea & Coffee Expo 2013, ( http://www.worldteacoffeeexpo.com ) being held at Mumbai, India from 15th – 17th Feb 2013 with over a 100 exhibitors from 8 countries, is expected to highlight the tremendous potential of the Hot Beverages sector – both in India and globally. Internationally, the market for RTD (Ready to Drink) tea and coffee in terms of revenue is expected to reach US $125 billion by 2017 as against US $69 billion in 2011 (estimated) signaling an anticipated annual growth of 10.9 % 2012 to 2017.

The World tea & Coffee Expo 2013 (WTCE 2013) has received very good response from Exhibitors as also pre-registered visitors in view of the fact that this is the only trade show in India dedicated to the Tea & Coffee sectors and has a judicious mix of Indian & International Exhibitors. Leading Trade Bodies like Tea Board of India. (Govt of India), Federation of Indian Tea Traders Association (FAITTA), Bombay Tea Traders Association (BTTA), India-China Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Small and Medium Business Development Chamber of India, Confederation of Indian Small Tea Growers Assoc (CISTA) and Darjeeling Tea Association are supporting this unique trade event.

Says Priti Kapadia, Director, Sentinel Exhhibitions P Ltd, the organizers of this event, “Among the most popular beverages around the world, the Tea and Coffee sectors provide employment to several million workers worldwide, both in plantation activities, as well as in indirect and allied activities. Rising consumer awareness about the health hazards of carbonated drinks is leading to a shift towards RTD tea and coffee. Another major driver is surge in the health conscious population who prefer antioxidant property of RTD tea or the instant energy of coffee.”

Companies in the last decade have positioned the RTD tea and coffee market as recreational products, which has proved beneficial in attracting younger population. Advancements in technology and production efficiencies are likely to lead to lower labour costs. Furthermore, the focus on high-protein, low-sugar diets is stimulating demand for green tea, ground coffee and artificial sweeteners, which have shown strong signs of promise over the past three years.

The top two tea producing nations – China and India, collectively produce about 60% of total global tea output. India is the second-largest tea producer and consumer after China and fourth largest tea exporter after Kenya, China, and Sri Lanka. The key coffee producing and exporting nations are Brazil, Vietnam, Columbia, Indonesia, Ethiopia, and India, among others. Brazil is the world’s largest producer, exporter and consumer of coffee.

Adds Kapadia, “Wider health awareness, a burgeoning middle-class population with busy lifestyles and increase in disposable income is making consumers opt for RTD tea and coffee. In spite of the deteriorating global economic climate in the last few years, the Hot Beverage sector has remained resilient as improvements in transportation and the extension of the shelf life of products backed by continued product innovation and aggressive marketing initiatives is contributing to the growth of this industry. Some segments like premium and organic coffee and green/herbal tea have created an entirely new market.”

With the display of new technologies at the WTCE 2013 ( http://www.worldteacoffeeexpo.com ), Indian companies will be able to fulfill their need of investing in modernization and improving quality so as to consolidate gains and improve their global competitiveness. The trade show shall also include Seminars with speakers form leading boards, companies and brands. These seminars will offer strategic review of major factors influencing the market e.g. new product developments, consumer trends, packaging innovations, distribution and pricing issues etc. The speakers shall also forecast how the market is set to change and criteria for future success.

WTCE 2013 will serve as the ideal platform not only for showcasing Indian Tea & Coffee brands and technologies but also for International companies to seek market expansion & branding prospects in India. The event will thus serve the twin purpose of acting as a sourcing platform for Indian companies and as marketing avenue for seeking international buyers. The event shall facilitate striking of deals, joint ventures and signing of major contracts. In view of the uniqueness of the show, it is expected to be attended by over 10,000 trade buyers and general visitors.

India’s per capita tea consumption stands at 711 grams per head during 2011. However, this is considerably lower than other tea drinking nations such as Ireland (3 kg), more than 2 kg in U.K., Turkey, and Iraq, and more than 1 kg in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. This signifies remarkable potential in domestic tea consumption. The domestic coffee consumption too has been continuously growing at annual average rate of 6% and is largely on account of a thriving Independent upscale café culture. Domestic coffee outlets – which have a lot of appeal for the new generation – are set to increase multi-fold within next 3 years and the foray of global players such Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts in India can only herald a strong growth trend in future. India, which exports more than two-thirds of its coffee output, grows coffee primarily in its Southern part.

The principal organizer of the show is Sentinel Exhibitions Asia P Ltd [SEA], a part of the Sentinel media group. Headquartered in Mumbai (India), SEA is engaged in organizing International Business Conferences and Trade Expos. The co-organizer is Mumbai-based M/s Alex Events, an event execution company since the last 8 years.
