Sweet Honey in the Rock Launches $35,000 Indiegogo Campaign

For 40th Anniversary “Forty & Fierce” Show Production and Tour

New York, NY, September 11, 2013 – SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK, the venerable and Grammy nominated a cappella ensemble has announced the launch of their first ever fan driven funding endeavor with Indiegogo. The Indiegogo campaign target goal is to raise $35,000. The funds will be used to offset production costs for SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY: FORTY & FIERCE show and tour which will be celebrated from January 2014 – January 2015.

“We did a lot of talking, soul-searching, and brainstorming and ultimately felt that the independent spirit that has fueled all our artistic endeavors and been the driving force to our longevity couldn’t be better served than by partnering with our fans and Indiegogo on this milestone celebration and venture,” stated Sweet Honey’s Carol Maillard.

Sweet Honey’s “FORTY & FIERCE” show will be the group’s most ambitious and adventurous live performance presentation to date. It will be their first scripted show, helmed by noted Director/Choreographer Dianne McIntyre. It will feature several new original compositions, medley’s comprised of some of their most popular songs, special guest musicians and vocalists, and intimate personal stories by each member that will be woven into a retrospective look at their incredible journey over the past four decades.

The group also intends to make it their most technically advanced show as well. It will feature theatrical designed and extensive lighting, a visual fusion of archival film/video and still images, newly created performance costumes, and special staging/set components.

The Indiegogo funds will be dedicated entirely to covering the production costs for the show, which is being independently produced by their company, SHE-ROCKS 5 Productions. The group is currently in the embryonic creative and development process, but will kick-off their anniversary year with performances at UC Berkeley’s Zellerbach Auditorium, February 12th, the Music Center at Strathmore in Washington, DC., March 1st, and the prestigious “Celebrity Series in Boston” at Symphony Hall on March 2nd. They are also planning a FORTY & FIERCE television special and a commemorative CD comprised of forty of the most popular songs they’ve recorded and released on twenty-three CD’s since their inception.

The event began with an elaborate breakfast spread at the Taj West End followed by the rally at 10.30am. The classics were then on display between 12-1pm at UB City.

The rally was flagged off by the Chief Guest for the event – Chief Minister, Shri DV Sadananda Gowda from Taj West End. The vehicles moved towards Cubbon Park, Kasturbha Road, MG Road, Trinity Circle – halting by Vivanta by Taj MG Road, proceeding towards Ulsoor Lake heading to Dickenson Road, Commercial Street, Brigade Road, moving to UB City, back to Tiffany’s Circle, Kasturba Road, Cricket Stadium, Raj Bhavan, Chalukya Circle, Bangalore Golf Club, Windsor Circle, Shivananda Circle, Race Course Road and finally entering back into Taj West End.

Nearly a hundred vintage cars and motorcycles participated in this rally. There were 57 classic four-wheelers and 17 conventional motorcycles in the parade.

Some classic vintages that were a part of this event were:
* 1909 Wolseley that belonged to the Maharaja of Cooch Behar
* 1961 Jaguar E-Type, which in March 2008, was ranked first in the Daily Telegraph’s list of the “100 most beautiful cars” of all times
* Jaguar Mk which also belonged to the Maharaja of Udaipur
* Other eye-catchers included the Mercedes, Austins, MGS, Ford Jeeps, Plymouth, Daimlers, Buick, Dodge, etc. which used to be the trademarks of maharajas and nobilities of yester years.

20th Anniversary of World Scientists Warning to Humanity

In 1992, 1,700 Nobel laureates and world leading scientists issued an appeal to the world to stop destroying the environment. Failing to do so, they said, would jeopardize all life on the planet. Humanity has failed to listen.

Jacksonville, FL, January 19, 2012 – In 1992, 1,700 world leading scientists, including the majority of Nobel laureates, issued an appeal to the human race. They said the human race was on a collision course with the natural world. Human activities were inflicting irreversible damage on the environment and critical resources. If not stopped, the activities seriously risk the future of human society and all life on earth as we know it. They made this appeal based on humanity’s response to the Club of Rome report.

In 1968, the Club of Rome was formed by a group of academic, diplomatic and industrial professionals to discuss SHORT-TERM THINKING in international affairs and the impact it was causing on society. Using private money, they created a computer program to model human society. A wide variety of scenarios were tested to explore how the environment, industry and society would respond to high, medium and low levels of population, food production, technology improvement, capital infusion and other variables. The results of the computer runs were startling! The book “Limits to Growth” was published in 1972 to describe their findings.

They found that, for every scenario, human society was facing a drastic collapse between 2010 and 2060 unless radical reductions to population increase and natural resource consumption were made immediately ( i.e. 1972 ). The response by society to these predictions was just as startling. Consistent with their original concerns, prominent economists, scientists and political leaders denounced the study. The needed reductions were ignored. A 1992 update to the book reassessed how the planet was doing in comparison to the 1972 models. For many variables, things were going worse than the worst-case models. The anticipated arrival of the collapses was advanced. Leading world scientists responded by signing a petition to world governments to take immediate action. Their warning was again ignored.

There is no longer any need to wait to see if the predictions were true. The collapses have begun. Yet, humanity’s assault on the planet continues to grow worse. The planet’s weather is radically changing; hurricanes are growing in strength; rain bands are shifting, turning once verdant crop areas into deserts. 90% of the fish in the oceans and natural wild life on land have been depleted. The creator of the World Wide Web was a teenager when he discovered the power of linking things to other things; he developed hypertext to track complex projects while a consultant at the European nuclear-research facility CERN. By 1990 the Internet had been around for two decades, but with his invention of the first Web pages, server, and browser, Berners-Lee transformed it into the Swiss Army knife to end all Swiss Army knives. He is the father of e-everything, and remains among the Web’s guiding spirits as it evolves into 2.0 and beyond.

As one of the most prolific inventors of all time, Jerome Lemelson (on the right, above) devised technology that was used in products ranging from cordless phones to warehouse robots to camcorders. But the inventor is perhaps best known for the fact that he filed and was awarded more than 600 patents–more than any other American except for Thomas Edison. And like Edison, Lemelson wasn’t afraid to pursue infringement claims. Though he lost some major lawsuits, Lemelson eventually won an estimated $500 million in various settlements. He died in 1997, and left part of his fortune to a foundation that now presents a half-million dollar prize each year to great inventors for their work.

Robert Plath, a pilot for Northwest Airlines, changed the physical orientation of luggage from horizontal to vertical, added large wheels and an extension handle; hence, inventing the Rollaboard, an entirely new way to transport personal belongings while traveling.
