Vegas Versus Victoria Falls: Which Vacation Is The Better Value?

Study compares costs of 10 global adventure trips with rates at 3-4 star hotels.

(For Immediate Release) April 26, 2013 — Today’s travelers seek memorable experiences when they vacation. A recent cost comparison study shows that global adventures can be more affordable than many three and four-star hotel stays. The research by AdventureLink.com suggests that cost-conscious consumers may wish to consider adventure travel as an alternative to traditional “been-there done-that” hotel stays.

Despite ongoing worries about the economy, the adventure travel industry is growing at 17 percent per year, according to the Adventure Travel Trade Association. The growth is being fueled by aging baby boomers seeking more value from their vacation travel experiences. “Many travelers don’t realize that some of the most sought-after adventure trips in the world cost less per day than staying in three and four-star hotels in major cities,” says Kelly Tompkins, Founder & CEO of AdventureLink Travel Inc.

In the study, AdventureLink.com compared 10 popular trips-such as African safaris, climbing Machu Picchu, and walking tours of Europe-to the cost of staying at three and four-star hotels across major destinations.

As with hotel stays, adventure tours typically do not include airfare. But adventure vacations do often include the cost of lodging, meals and in many cases a guide and local transportation.

“Everybody is value-conscious. So when I share with friends the adventures they can have for as little as $59 dollars a day, they often can’t believe it,” notes adventure travel pioneer Richard Bangs, an AdventureLink board member. Bangs points out that AdventureLink.com alone offers over 350 trips that cost less than $59 per day, roughly the cost of a night at a Motel 6.

“Most people are unaware that meaningful, affordable adventure travel options exist. That’s why we created AdventureLink.com,” Tompkins adds.

In WideWorld This Week Aron Ralston And 127 Hours That Changed His Life; Jimmy Chin Talks Photography And We Visit An Eco-Lodge In Ecuador

Three great stories of adventure and travel to raise the spirits and provide inspiration

London, UK, November 18, 2010 — Three great stories of adventure and travel to raise the spirits and provide inspiration: Aron Ralston’s incredible story asks real questions about what we humans are capable of; Jimmy Chin has literally put his life on the line in his quest to make the ultimate extreme sports photograph; and on a slightly different tack, indigenous Ecuadorians are saving their environment through eco-tourism.

127 Hours in the life of Aron Ralston:
In 2003, Aron Ralston went hiking in Utah, but climbing down a narrow slot in Blue John Canyon, a boulder became dislodged, crushing his right forearm and pinning it against the wall. For five and a half days, he struggled to get free until he was forced to do the unthinkable: One hundred and twenty seven hours into his ordeal he amputated his own arm. British filmmaker Danny Boyle has chronicled the events that day in a new film, 127 hours. This week, Ralston tells WideWorld his incredible story of survival.

Hands on with Chin:
This week WideWorld ( http://www.wideworldmag.com ) sent US writer Nicolette Mallow to Washington D.C., to meet 37-year-old National Geographic photographer and explorer Jimmy Chin. Chin is a sponsored athlete for North Face and in his career has photographed climbers thousands of feet up in the air, glued to ice-capped mountains and with storm clouds billowing in the distance. WideWorld also discovered he has an outstanding ability to capture shadows and light, sunrises and sunsets and nature at its most breathtaking.

An Amazon eco-adventure:
Eco-tourism is going from strength to strength; from hotel construction to how the fish are caught for tourists’ dinner. But the Sani Lodge resort in Ecuador is taking environmental thinking one step further. The whole business is run by a village of indigenous Kichwa, and with the help of visiting tourists, they’re managing to save the surrounding forests.

It’s Adventure Week at WideWorld Magazine

It’s Adventure Week at WideWorld magazine, with stories of bold and brilliant adventurers as they cross Iceland on foot, sail the Northwest Passage in an open boat, and navigate three continents in 13 days.

London, UK, October 28, 2010 — It’s Adventure Week at WideWorld magazine, with stories of bold and brilliant adventurers as they cross Iceland on foot, sail the Northwest Passage in an open boat, and navigate three continents in 13 days.

This week, it’s all about the adventures at WideWorld magazine: audacious, bold and brilliant. WideWorld regular reporter, Alastair Humphreys, tells of his attempt to cross Iceland by foot and packraft, learning a few lessons in self-sufficiency in the process.

WideWorld also publishes the incredible story of two hardy men who sailed the Northwest Passage – in an open boat. Completing their 1500-mile, 60-day journey at the appropriately named Resolute Bay, this story has to be read to be believed.

In the news, WideWorld covers a new attempt to beat the record time for a journey between London and Cape Town. In the cramped conditions of a Range Rover Discovery, three men face 10,000 miles, 21 countries and 3 continents – all in under 13 days 8 hours 48 minutes! Enjoy Adventure Week.
