ENR Chooses Two Rosendin Electric Projects for 2016 Global Best Projects Awards

Rosendin Electric Projects Chosen Among the Best in the World in Categories of Green Projects and Residential/Hospitality.

San Jose, CA, USA — Rosendin Electric (http://www.rosendin.com), one of the nation’s largest private electrical contractors and an employee-owned company, is pleased to announce that two of the company’s 2016 construction projects, the Stanford Energy Systems Innovations central power plant replacement and construction of 399 Fremont Street in San Francisco, have been singled out for Global Best Project Awards by Engineering News-Record (ENR). The Stanford Energy Systems Innovation project was chosen for a Global Best Project Award in the category for best Green Project and 399 Fremont received an Award of Merit as an outstanding Residential/Hospitality project.

This is the fourth year that ENR has presented Global Best Projects Awards. There were 23 projects chosen this year spanning 15 countries and five continents, including the two Rosendin Electric projects. In selecting the winners, judges considered factors such as safety performance, innovations, design and construction quality, and construction challenges. Special consideration was given to the diversity of the project teams, and how the completed projects would benefit the community or the construction industry.

“Rosendin Electric prides itself on tackling some of the most challenging construction projects and bringing innovation, technology, and best building practices to every job,” said Jim Hawk, Executive Vice President of Preconstruction for Rosendin Electric. “Having our work singled out as the best worldwide is a real honor. Recognition by third-party industry leaders such as ENR is especially rewarding and serves as independent validation that our work is, indeed, world class.”

The Stanford Energy Systems Innovation project was a $438 million initiative to replace the central power plant at Stanford University with a system that would be 70 percent more efficient. The challenge was the replacement had to be made without disrupting power to the 25,000 people on the Stanford campus every day. The system changeover required 140 building conversions with 30 to 40 scheduled utility interruptions each week. The entire project took 14 months to complete.

Construction of 399 Fremont Street was an international effort with Rosendin Electric collaborating with firms from three continents. The 42-story, $195 million project includes 447 luxury rental units as well as a rooftop lounge, library, swimming pool, spa, conference center, and even a dog park. The project also includes the world’s largest solar water heater designed to reduce the energy required to heat water by 30 percent. Thanks to close collaboration among the teams through regular meetings, the project was completed in less than two years; two months ahead of schedule despite project challenges.

Profiles of other world-class construction projects spanning education, transportation, technology, data centers, healthcare, and other customers are available on the Rosendin Electric web site, http://www.rosendin.com.

KHAYAL: A Musical Repertoire by Santhosh Hedge

TITAN Presents a Reprise of Bollywood’s Golden Classics.

Bangalore, India, October 21st, 2016 — TITAN Presents a Reprise of Bollywood’s Golden Classics.

Date: 22nd October ’16, Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bengaluru

Santhosh Kumar Hedge, a man whose seasoned voice serves as a memoir to Bollywood’s music, is a self-taught musician who has successfully completed 50 years in the music industry. To mark this momentous occasion, he will be performing at ‘The Golden Jubilee Show’ at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bengaluru, organized by Titan.

KHAYAL, as the word symbolizes, will be a token reminiscent of Bollywood’s yesteryear’s music. This escapade will also witness some of the finest musical talents; one of which is Mithila Hegde, his daughter who has been sharing the stage with her father since the age of 9. Joining them will be Ahmed Ali, a renowned Hindustani/Sufi artiste from Kolkata; and Shruti Bhide, a popular singer/theatre performer based in Bangalore will heighten the fervour of this performance with their soul-stirring music. The band will also comprise of a 15-member reputed orchestra from Kerala, who have played for the likes of Yesudas, S. Janaki, and Unnikrishnan, to name a few.

With 10,000 performances to his credit, Santhosh Hegde is known for the ease with which he transitions through various genres of music. His tryst with music goes back a long way back to 1966, when a group of local musicians and him organized a stage show called “Young Talents’ Night” at the Don Bosco Hall in Mangalore, and it’s been 50 years since. A film buff in his teenage years, he eagerly awaited the release of Hindi films. When the numerous songs served as a source of respite for the rest of the audience, he would be the only one to stay back to listen and memorize the lyrics to each of the tracks. Inspired by All India Radio and Bollywood Classics, he embarked upon his musical journey. The joy that Santhosh derives from connecting with people through music, gives him immense gratification.

Tickets for the show will be available at the venue, Chowdiah Memorial Hall, for a price of Rs 1000, Rs 500 & Rs 300.

Western Story Wins International Book Award

Nevada silver rush thriller was 100 years in the making. A man and a woman, each searching for missing family members, clash amid a Nevada silver rush scheme that leaves both unsure who to trust—and scrambling to stay alive.

Midvale, Utah, October 21, 2016 – What if you came home after a journey and your family was no longer there? What if someone else was living in your house, running what you used to manage — and trying to kill you? So begins the thriller “To Swallow the Earth,” which won this year’s International Book Award for western novel.

“It’s really my grandfather’s story,” says co-author Karl Beckstrand. “My grandfather grew up exploring the Sierra Nevada Mountains on horseback a hundred years ago. He used that setting for his mystery–set in the Nevada silver rush,” Beckstrand said.

After his grandfather passed away in 1992, Beckstrand inherited the manuscript. “My challenge was to tighten his story and develop the characters while preserving the action, suspense and earthy vernacular.”

Beckstrand, who grew up in San Jose, California, has won other literary awards, but this one is special. “It kind of validates my grandfather’s vision — gives him a nod — even beyond the grave.” The thriller also was named a finalist for the Laramie Award and garnered Literary Classics’ seal of approval.

“It’s getting great reviews online as well,” Beckstrand said. “The main character is an outcast, half-Mexican, raised by American Indians. But he’s fearless and loyal to his friends and family.” In addition to a tough, dark hero, there’s a gutsy heroine who is unintimidated in the worst kinds of opposition. Beckstrand’s stories usually have characters of color and surprises at the end.

Bestselling author Beckstrand heads Premio Publishing & Gozo Books, which produces multicultural books for educators, libraries, and families. His fifteenth book may be found at PremioBooks.com and via major booksellers and distributors. The e-book will be temporarily free on Kindle and other platforms through Nov. 25. http://tinyurl.com/js6g6tj.

Beckstrand will present on publishing Tues., Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Weber County Library 2039 W. 4000 South, Roy, Utah and Sat., Nov. 5 from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Viridian Center 8030 S. 1825 West, West Jordan, Utah. Book trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CzbQKuLVr8

GiftWorksPlus Releases Interesting Halloween Facts and Figures

GiftWorksPlus has fun facts and custom frames that are perfect as Halloween approaches.

Waukesha, WI, USA — Halloween is synonymous with candy, ghosts, pumpkins and costumes. In honor of Halloween, GiftWorksPlus is releasing some fun facts and figures about the holiday to get customers in the Halloween spirit.

The origins of Halloween are thought to be linked to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, in which people would light bonfires and wear costumes to scare off ghosts. When Pope Gregory III named the first of November All Saints’ Day in the 8th century, some of the Celtic traditions were incorporated into the holiday. The night before All Saints’ Day became known as All Hallows’ Eve and, eventually, Halloween.

Wearing Halloween costumes also has its roots from Celtic and European traditions. Back in earlier centuries, it was believed that ghosts were free to roam on Halloween and people thought that ghosts would recognize them if they left their house. After dark on Halloween, people would dress up in costumes so that ghosts would mistake them for other fellow ghosts and spirits. Today, the tradition of wearing costumes has evolved as a way more to show off creativity and have fun instead of warding off ghosts.

Halloween has evolved into a more commercialized event focused on costumes, pumpkins, and candy. In fact, one quarter of all the candy sold each year in the U.S. is bought for Halloween treats. Between candy, decorations, pumpkins, and costumes, Americans spend almost $7 billion every year on Halloween – making it the second largest commercial holiday in the country. Put another way, the average U.S. consumer is expected to spend about $75 on Halloween-related items each year.

GiftWorksPlus has several engraved frames for Halloween. These wooden frames are great for showcasing a child’s first Halloween, a group of trick-or-treaters, or even a contest-winning pumpkin carving. These Halloween frames are also perfect grandchildren frames to send to grandparents, so they can see grandkids in their Halloween costumes.

All GiftWorksPlus picture frames come with free customization, giving customers the opportunity to create personalized picture frames with dates, designs and more. These special picture frames make great unique, personalized gifts that family and friends can enjoy year after year!
