Miklosi Campaign Raises Over $235,000 from 2000 Donors in the First Quarter of 2012

Almost $350,000 cash on hand

Greenwood Village, CO, April 11, 2012 – In a sign of increasing momentum, the Joe Miklosi for Congress campaign announced today that it has posted its strongest fundraising quarter yet for the 2012 election cycle.

Contributions over the last three months of $235,174 have brought the campaign’s total raised to more than $474,000. Miklosi has seen a dramatic surge in donor activity since clearing the primary field in the new 6th congressional district six weeks ago. The campaign reports over 2000 donors in the first quarter including 1,965 from individual contributors.

“As we head into this election, I am grateful to have the active involvement of so many individuals in our campaign,” said Miklosi. “I believe it’s because they fully understand that we are fighting for the future of our country.”

Miklosi has been focused on incumbent Mike Coffman’s voting record. Coffman supports the Ryan budget which ends Medicare as we know it; the Blunt amendment which allows employers to determine whether your health insurance provides coverage for contraception and other items; and the Colorado Personhood amendment which outlaws abortion even in the case of rape, incest or the health of the mother.

As a result, grassroots and online donors continue to be a strong source of support. In the first quarter 2012, more than 2,000 supporters contributed to the Miklosi campaign, with an average contribution of $80.

“We’ve only had the field to ourselves for six weeks this quarter so this represents tremendous growth. This is a broad base of support that grows stronger every day, I’m confident we will have the resources we need to win in November,” said campaign finance director Joe Livoti. “And we’re just getting started.”

Plan Parcel Delivery Needs And Don’t Get Caught Out By London 2012, Says Parcel2Go

The UK’s largest online parcel delivery specialist has warned individuals and businesses not to get caught out by the inevitable disruption set to be caused by the London 2012 Olympics this summer.

The Olympic Games will take place at sports arenas across the United Kingdom between July 27 and August 12 this year, with the majority of events happening in London. Unsurprisingly, the anticipated influx of visitors to London will have a significant impact on the capital’s transport network and may also lead to disruption at Olympic sites across Britain.

Organisers of the Games have already told businesses that road closures and parking restrictions will impact on parcel deliveries and collections. The UK’s leading courier companies such as City Link, FedEx and TNT are all working to find ways to minimise the inevitable disruption to customers and are liaising with organisers as part of their attempts to provide reliable services during the Games.

Parcel2Go’s marketing director Richard Mercer said: “The London 2012 Olympics will be a huge international event and understandably the sheer volume of people set to descend on the capital and other UK cities will cause disruption and delays. Courier companies are working hard to formulate plans to counter the effect of road closures and parking restrictions, and have pledged to keep customers informed via Olympic delivery information pages.

“Parcel2Go is calling on people to plan ahead as much as possible and make parcel recipients aware of the situation. For now, the best thing is to keep regularly checking couriers’ websites for updates on how the Games is likely to affect day-to-day operations.”

The parcel tracking services available online through Parcel2Go play a vital role in helping individuals and businesses to remain aware of where their consignments are, and when they are likely to arrive. During the Olympics, these services are expected to be key in assisting customers to stay informed and up-to-date.

Biotage unveils Isolera Spektra with full PDA Spectral Scanning

Biotage, a leading global supplier of solutions and technology for analytical and medicinal chemistry, introduced Isolera™ Spektra.

Uppsala, Sweden, April 12, 2012 — Biotage® (STO: BIOT), a leading global supplier of solutions and technology for analytical and medicinal chemistry, introduced Isolera™ Spektra. The new Isolera™ Spektra expands the scope of application of Biotage’s market-leading Flash Chromatography product line by increasing efficiency with significant solvent and time saving capabilities as well as enabling purity assessment technology.

The new full PDA spectral scanning capability with ?-All detection and baseline correction generates real-time PDA spectral data for eluting compounds. This provides compound detection at any wavelength, enabling chemists to see how pure their eluting compounds are in both real-time and post-purification. Post-purification spectral analysis can also be conducted in both two dimensional and three dimensional displays for improved visibility of impurities and eliminating the need for post-flash TLC purity testing.

The new proprietary TLC-to-Step gradient feature (patent-pending) instantly converts TLC separation data into an efficient step gradient and suggests a sample load for up to six compounds. Chemists can target one or more compounds for isolation, dramatically reducing solvent requirements and purification time compared to linear gradients. Used in conjunction with Biotage® SNAP Ultra cartridges with their 2-3X loading capacity and flow rate advantage, researchers can routinely achieve total processing times and ultra-low solvent consumption volumes which previously were not possible with other flash instruments.

“Isolera™ Spektra is a revolutionary enhancement in flash purification. It transforms 1-dimensional flash purification into 3D purification systems that can target a specific compound for isolation and characterize collected fractions for purity and spectral properties” says Bob Bickler, Senior Product Manager, Biotage®. “This technology can have a huge positive impact on the amount of time that researchers need to invest in compound purification as well as the solvents they consume. These system improvements combined with high efficiency columns will quickly pay for themselves in any lab”.

FRA says Bamboo Prices could Rise

FRA says it is “excited” by the prospects of bamboo being hailed as the new super material, which can be used for everything from housebuilding to garment manufacture.

Seattle, United States, April 12, 2012 — Forestry Research Analysis (FRA) says it is “excited” by the prospects of bamboo being hailed as the new super material, which can be used for everything from housebuilding to garment manufacture.

The research and analysis consultancy, which specialises in the forestry investment sector, claims that bamboo’s uses could make prices rise hugely over coming years, making it a good prospect for alternative investors.

“As the demand for raw materials increases in countries like China and India, the price of bamboo, which has so many uses and is a fast growing species, is bound to rise significantly.” FRA claims that bamboo, like other forestry stocks, absorbs carbon from the atmosphere, which means that when grown sustainable, it can offer one of the most cost effective ways of limiting climate change. All this while also producing a material that has so many purposes.

FRA’s analysis partner, Peter Collins, added, “We believe that bamboo, along with teak, eucalyptus, and other fast-growing durable forestry species, offers a wonderful opportunity or environmentally conscious investors.

“Prices of these asset classes are expected to grow over the coming years, as emerging economies continue to expand and demand more and more raw materials for construction and infrastructure projects.”

FRA supports investment in sustainable forestry projects, and bamboo, although not strictly a timber product, comes under the same banner. In fact, bamboo is being touted as the ‘timber of the 21st century’.

“As with projects like the plantations run by Greenwood Management and other companies in developing countries, the growing of bamboo in a sustainable way has the potential to help people living in these countries to establish a living and safeguard it for the next generation, providing proper forestry management techniques are used,” added Collins.

Local Middle Schoolers Power Radio Station with Wind Energy by FPL Grant

“FPL began our teacher grant program to provide funds for creative, exciting classroom projects that spark curiosity and give our children exposure to real-world applications of the science behind everyday energy use,” said Maureen Wilt of FPL.

Juno Beach, FL (April 12, 2012) — Stroll onto the campus of the David Lawrence Jr. K-8 Center School in North Miami, and one of the first things you’ll see is a waterfall powered by solar panels. Round a corner, and you’ll stumble upon a working wind turbine. A few steps further, a team of pre-teens is constructing a radio transmission tower under the direction of teacher Laurie Futterman.

This month, Ms. Futterman won her second grant from Florida Power & Light Company to implement student projects exploring renewable energy. The solar waterfall was the result of her first grant, and took about a year to complete. For her next project, she dreamed even bigger.

This year’s FPL grant will help Ms. Futterman and the school’s “Green Team” apply a wind turbine they built to provide power to a radio tower, which will broadcast student announcements of school events and programs to parents’ car radios as they pick up or drop off their children.

The Green Team started out as an afterschool environmental police force who audited classrooms for wasted energy. Thanks to the grants, the group has evolved into a green engineering club, taking on projects like building the solar powered waterfall, wind turbine, and now radio transmission tower.

In preparation for the project, Ms. Futterman had her students read “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind,” the story of a boy in Malawi who used tree limbs, a bike tire, and old junk parts to build a wind turbine that powered lights in his family’s house.

The Green Team’s project is just as hands-on. In constructing the wind turbine, the students prepped, primed, and riveted parts and hand-coiled copper wire. They’re nearly ready to run a wire underground to the radio tower and up the PVC pipes that form the legs of the tower, and mount the antenna. Next up: the students will work on the radio station and announcements.

“There’s only so much a teacher can do in the classroom, and we’re grateful to have the grants for an invaluable opportunity to actually put green energy into motion,” said Ms. Futterman. “I see our students truly inspired and energized by their mission. They work after school every Monday until about five o’clock – they even worked through their winter vacation!”

The radio tower project was made possible with a $1,600 grant from FPL to spur innovative and critical science, technology, engineering, and math education in the classroom. While so-called “STEM” education is seen as the key to job growth and global competitiveness, public funds to support it are scarce.

“There’s no doubt that STEM classes are one of the most important components in today’s education,” said Maureen Wilt of FPL. “That’s why FPL began our teacher grant program – to provide funds for creative, exciting classroom projects that spark curiosity and give our children exposure to real-world applications of the science behind everyday energy use. This is the third year of FPL’s grant program and so far, we’ve been able to support 84 amazing classroom projects across Florida. We can’t wait to see what our state’s teachers come up with next year.”

You can keep track of the Green Team’s progress on Facebook with videos, pictures, and status updates from “Ms. Futterman’s Science Page.” Or, learn more about FPL’s education initiatives at http://www.fpl.com/community/learning.

Demand for Timber Frame Houses is ‘Good news’ for Forestry investors, says FRA

A new report from MTW Research shows that demand for timber frame housing will increase hugely over the coming four years in the UK. This could prove good news for forestry investors, according to FRA.

Bainbridge Island, WA, April 11, 2012 – A new report from MTW Research shows that demand for timber frame housing will increase hugely over the coming four years in the UK. This could prove good news for forestry investors, according to Forestry Research Associates (FRA).

The researchers found that as demand for sustainable, energy efficient building materials increases, sales of timber frame homes will increase by 60 per cent in volume. Sales values will increase even further, growing by 80 per cent from current levels.

FRA, a research and analysis consultancy focusing on forestry investment, claims that those with investments in the timber industry could benefit from this new popularity of timber framed homes. The researchers claim that new regulations, such as the Code for Sustainable Homes is helping to promote timber as one of the lowest carbon forms of construction material.

“The research carried out by MTW Research was very comprehensive,” stated FRA’s analysis partner, Peter Collins. He added, “Around 80 per cent of the industry was involved in the study and much of the industry seemed extremely positive about what the future holds in store for them.” Growing demand is expected to come from the house-building sector, but also from the commercial, leisure and retail sectors, which are all also under pressure to turn to more sustainable building materials.

FRA is an advocate of investment in sustainable forestry projects, such as those run by Greenwood Management in Brazil. More and more people are investing in alternative asset classes such as forestry as the traditional financial markets continue to be volatile places to invest – where people can lose a fortune overnight.

“Investing in forestry and timber, however, is much less risky,” added Mr Collins, who went on to say, “If your timber stocks come to maturity at a time when the market is less than strong, you can just hold on a little longer before harvesting and watch your asset continue to grow in the meantime.”

Commodities could be Big earner for Alternative investors, claims AAA

Commodity investors are expected to reap the benefits of increasing prices this year, according to recent forecasts by Barclays Capital.

Boston, MA, April 11, 2012 – Commodity investors are expected to reap the benefits of increasing prices this year, according to recent forecasts by Barclays Capital. Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA) would like to add timber to the list of commodities being recommended by experts.

Copper is one commodity that is forecast to see prices rise this year. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, which said that prices stood at about $1 a pound in 2004, rising steadily to $4 per pound in 2006. The price then plunged during the global economic collapse, rising to a high of $4.50 last year. Current prices stand at $3.90 and analysts expect it to rise in line with the further industrialisation of emerging economic such as India and China, which both have huge demand for Copper.

Gold is another favorite among the analysts, many of whom were found to be continuing their bullish trend about the precious metal when interviewed by Barclays Capital on the subject. Prices have risen hugely over recent years, hitting an all-time high of $1,917 in August last year.

However, it did lose some ground over the following months, finishing the year at a value of $1,600. Current prices are around $1,700 and demand is still high from the world’s central banks, suggesting that prices will continue to grow.

Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA) is keen to ensure that timber is added to the list of promising commodities for 2012 investments. Its analysis partner, Anthony Johnson, said, “The demand for sustainably produced timber is rising exponentially as a result of the economic growth in India, China and Brazil, which are all desperate to get their hands on raw materials.”

AAA claims that investing in forestry plantations run by investment firms like Greenwood Management, in countries like Brazil and Costa Rica, can offer an easy and relatively low-entry level introduction to ethically sound commodities investment.
